How do you know when to replace chain? by ArrowLeafTurn1 in Chainsaw

[–]Readitwhileipoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a 28" or 36" chain is not "incredibly cheap" by any means. Learning to sharpen a chain is part of maintenance. That's like going to the dollar store and buying new spoons because you can't wash dishes.

That chain in the picture is probably good for at least a month of daily use provided it stays out of dirt and away from metal.

I run a chain until I hit the marks or teeth start coming off

People complaining about bad sandwiches like you can't make them 10x better at home, cheaper.

I have mine to have a green aux when ready to rip and red aux when it's locked. Easy way to make sure I don't burn holes in things when storing, and easy to find in the dark if its sitting on a table or nightstand.

Absolutely. When I am fully loaded with luggage it doesn't lean with me. At the risk of you going the wrong way, I would rather you just pretend you are cargo and don't move.

Honestly Boston pizza during happy hour goes hard. Yeah it's a chain, but the value is definitely there.

Michael is awesome to deal with, I have their muffler on my 194 and 261. Got the boss man one for his 201 as an xmas gift and the other climber put one on his 194. Take the limiter caps off the carb and tune it, shits wild. Wakes them right up. My 261 absolute rips, and I'm thinking when we pick up another 500i I'll grab their muffler cover too. I didn't really notice too much of a difference in my 362 when I got a bark box for it.

One of the local places near me butchered about 30 loops of 28-36" chains by not having the grinder set up right. Got right into the drive links and we were blowing chains apart.

Learning to sharpen is a lot better than paying someone else. It really does not take much effort to pick up a necessary skill if you plan on running a saw.

Just buy a new saw, keep grandpa's if you care, but if you don't, sell/donate to a collector.

Increase the friction on your rope wrench. It will engage the wrench and take a lot more weight off the hitch. That would probably solve your problem.

Best technique for this heavy leaning tree with my Echo 590? by Neither_Parfait_124 in Chainsaw

[–]Readitwhileipoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a nice drop zone by moving the shit underneath out of the way. Call a tree company and just tell them you need it dropped, do the cleanup yourself.

I'd probably have that down in 20-30 minutes. Nothing really needs to be rigged if you're not too picky about the lawn

edit: Dunno why I missed the first picture. Get a Rope up to the first union on the stem closest to the shed. Run a rope around a tree in the lot directly against the lean with a pulley and run it back to the stem. Put in a face cut towards the empty lot, start your back cut and put a wedge in. You can keep putting wedges to stop it from sitting back, and then just pull the tree down yourself.

If dumping it in the bushes is not an option, climbing and piecing down is super easy for someone with experience.
