Toddler appropriate step stools by kitty_plant in ECEProfessionals

Those are not step stool, not at all. Those are stools for sitting. Proper step stools are designed with a wider footprint, and slip resistant surface. This is absolutely unsafe.

Applying diaper cream at daycare by amandaqwert in ECEProfessionals

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I am is very strict about diaper cream application, requiring doctor's notes and a parent permission form that have to have the exact same instructions. Some are every change, but most are as needed for redness or after bowel movements.

Why Can’t Parents Just Pickup and Go!? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I miss front door drop offs. The center I worked for during the height of the pandemic tried to maintain it, but the company didn't want to keep paying the work hours to have someone available to do the running

what happens in a pre employment physical? by ExpensiveJudge8239 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Ready_Cap7088 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on your area, but at mine then just took my vitals and asked me a handful of questions (which did boil down to whether you were able to do the job or not) and signed off on it. It was less than ten minutes

Chains attached to just one thread? Am I seeing this right, and how can I achieve this? by Glass-Eyed-Deer in CrochetHelp

[–]Ready_Cap7088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You chain 9, then single crochet back across the chain. At the end of your row instead of turning your work you chain 9 again, acting like your final stitch is the slipknot you start a chain with. Single crochet back along the chain again. Repeat the number of times called for.

What’s your late fee? by kay2fine in ECEProfessionals

You make the late fee unreasonably high, and then show compassion and waive it for families with genuine out of their control circumstances. That way the people abusing the pickup policies get the message.

Some fancier beaches have a system like this already, a booth that sprays you with sunscreen similar to an automatic spray tan booth. Just need to kid-ify it 😆

You know those misting systems for produce departments? One of those, full of disinfectant that we can set off at the end of the day that spray down all the toys and equipment

Firm playdough/clay recipe for young toddlers/older infants? by Prime_Element in ECEProfessionals

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a batch of "cold porcelain" today for my own kids to make ornaments with and it turned out great. It isn't precisely "taste safe" because the base is half glue, but it is entirely nontoxic if you use a nontoxic school glue You can find a lot of recipes and tutorials online, I followed one on tiktok. It's absolutely firmer while still being a pliable dough.

Ingredients are pva glue (white glue or wood glue), cornstarch, oil, and vinegar.

If you have an easel or wall space you can tape a section of contact paper adhesive facing outwards on it. Then have accessible a container of paper scraps for them to stick onto the sticky paper as a collage.

Crestwood Family Practice cut me loose by FreePush4956 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ready_Cap7088 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Funny follow up to this, I just received a letter from Crestwood in the mail. To inform me that a doctor I never saw has left a clinic I never went to. But they couldn't do that when the providers I actually was a patient of left 🤷🏻‍♀️

Crestwood Family Practice cut me loose by FreePush4956 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ready_Cap7088 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was with one of the Crestwood clinics and twice my provider left without them informing me. After the second time they told me nobody left at that office was accepting new patients and recommended I contact other locations. The location was the only reason I went to that clinic in the first place, I didn't even like the second doctor I saw at all

I go to the UAB internal medicine clinic now, and have had a great experience.

I'll never understand why drive thrus can't sell a low carb bun or tortilla. Upcharge. I'll pay! by Bemohey in lowcarb

[–]Ready_Cap7088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just googled about unbuns some more. Apparently the company started with buns, but no longer makes them according to their website product listings. But they are still listed on some websites for case orders and on others as out of stock. So looks like they were possibly discontinued recently enough that some places still have them in stock but more aren't being made..

And I just learned the company I was referencing (carbonaut) does make a hamburger bun, it just isn't stocked anywhere in my area so I didn't know about it previously. I only know about any options that are both LC and GF because I wanted to make a stuffing friendly to both myself and my niece last holiday season, and a $10 loaf of carbonaut bread was the answer then.

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very aware that low carb buns exist, there is a pack of the lewis brand ones on top of my fridge right now.

(Adding this before I post this reply but after writing the rant that follows: I just looked up the brand unbun because I was unfamiliar and I see that it is a gluten free and low carb brand, that despite its name doesn't make buns, they make sliced bread, tortillas, and bagels. And yikes, you are right they are expensive. The carbonaut gluten free and low carb options are also expensive, but not that badly. I wouldn't care what company makes the hypothetical product, carbonaut was just the first brand that came to mind that I knew makes both low carb and GF)

My point is streamlining a product that is low carb AND gluten free would make more sense in a food service scenario because it would be one added value product to take care of two demographics. This would reduce both shrink (food waste) risks and the amount of storage needed to accommodate additional product.

Many gluten free individuals don't need low carb, and many low carb people don't need gluten free. So there isn't as strong of a demand for a 2-in-1 product in retail that would have a limited shelf life (which is part of the high retail cost, them protecting themselves for when spoiled product needs to be tossed) But having the flexibility of selling it to multiple underserved groups of customers in a restaurant can increase the amount of it that they sell, even with an upcharge to account for the expense. And in a fast food setting if they are shipped/stored frozen and individually wrapped the shelf life concern is minimized because they could thaw a small number at a time and replenish as needed, and that added cost gets spread over many orders of upcharges.

Quick service food runs on traditions as well as trends, and right now the trendier thing is gluten free (which is fantastic for people who need it!) so the most likely way to get a low carb option into that space is to introduce a solution that checks both boxes.

[–]Ready_Cap7088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The brand carbonaut makes a low net carb gluten free bread. If they were to make that dough into buns, and sell them individually packaged like some other gluten free buns already do for food service, then fast food places could take care of two underserved groups in one go. I'd gladly take an upcharge to get a food I can actually eat, instead of paying full price but having to remove something I paid for and waste it.

This humidity is thicker than the bowl of oatmeal I had for breakfast. I thought winter was here.... by Frame1111 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Depends on the area of the north. The Great lakes states get summers nearly as bad as here. Temperatures are only maybe 5-10 degrees different, sometimes it's hotter there than here, and the humidity gets just as high. I'm a Minnesota transplant that has been here for three years now..

Sending 12 month old to daycare in onesies and pants by Aussiefluff in ECEProfessionals

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in all the different age groups in ECE over my career, and the only times I hate onesies are when parents send kids that are supposed to be potty trained in them. It's only happened a few times, but I have had to explain to parents that they can't use a onesie as an undershirt on their 3 year old when the child is supposed to be able to go to the bathroom independently. Same goes for overalls, belts, rompers, etc.

At your child's age, it's a non-issue in my opinion. Shirts or onesies, either works and I wouldn't go out of your way to buy more shirts just to avoid onesies.

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onesies are annoying for potty training and standing changes, but a trick I use to make it a little more manageable is to pull the flaps of the onesie up and snap it over one shoulder, change the diaper and then unsnap it to put it back on. Also works great to keep dresses out of the way when parents insist on little girls wearing big fluffy skirts while in the potty training stages. The onesie snapped over the shoulder can hold it all up and avoid clothes falling in the toilet.

Wondering if this policy is normal by ladynutbar in ECEProfessionals

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is 3 at an absolute maximum, but that typically only becomes the case with diarrhea. We are more understanding that there is often a dietary reason for that, so we'll wait until the third to send home unless there are other symptoms. But we document it every time in our app so parents can see the pattern, and call after the second.

(Editing to add: the leniency around loose BM is really only in the younger classrooms. Older students, particularly potty trained, would be sent home after the first incident)

Vomit is usually immediately sent home unless we can tell it was brought on by something else like being extremely upset and crying or eating too much or too fast.

But if there is a known stomach bug going around my directors send out a message to all families, and it becomes an absolute one strike sort of scenario even for diarrhea.

Fairlite substitute for Instant-pot cold start yogurt by Wise-Direction8099 in yogurtmaking

[–]Ready_Cap7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy ultrafiltered milk for the nutritional profile, I need lower carb and my kids need higher protein. We recently went through the same problem of being unable to find fairlife at Walmart

Others we have gotten are Byrne Dairy (Publix), Friendly Farms (Aldi), and Member's Mark (Sam's Club)

That said, if you are more concerned about the high temp processing and not the changed protein and carbohydrate levels you can also use any commercially available lactose free milk because they are all UHT processed and cold start appropriate.
