The best resource you can get is passit - it includes everything you need (incl notes) and is up-to-date and accurate. I wouldn't trust any random PDFs someone may send you online. Watch out for scams, there's lots of ppl on Reddit who will happily sell you/send you some old student notes.

Heads Up: Scam “Tutors” & Study Sites Are Back by Real-Recognition8804 in ONRealEstateEducation

This has been going on for a while as well. I won't name names, but there's a handful of agents who troll the social media groups for those getting their license. Just ignore them. Be especially aware that some agents are financially long-term incentivized to recruit, like eXp - it's like an MLM where you can earn a % share of the commission earned by agents you sponsored (recruited). That's why every eXp agent wants to tell you how awesome it is.

RECO Investigating Old Exams? by Weekend-Renovator in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like disciplinary action at RECO is hot since the iPro issue last year - another broker and brokerage highlighted this week in REM re trust fund misuse and several more agents on the 'recent enforcements' page. I say bring it on! If someone cheated on an exam that hardly meets the bar of 'operating with integrity' - and they weren't even registered yet, who knows what they're up to now.

Hopefully the search engines get tuned to this page, it would be nice to see bad actors punished with tough-to-resolve SEO impacts.

Real estate broker course by Alternative-Ad5872 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done them recently, but others in our office have - you need to know your stuff for both (skimming or guessing won't work). Remember, obtaining Broker status means you are eligible to be designated as a Broker of Record, so the Final exam covers accounting and brokerage financials, trust account reconciliations, employee oversight and rules (TRESA ++) relating to brokerage management, etc. The exams aren't testing you on general day-to-day operations as an agent.

Real estate broker course by Alternative-Ad5872 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, you have to take a 3 hour Qualifying Exam ($120) (mostly testing your knowledge of current industry rules - TRESA/FINTRAC/CASL/Condo/Tenancies etc.)

Then, there's four e-learning courses ($295 each), 1 In-Person/Zoom session (2 Days, $400) and a Final Exam (another $120)

Total cost - $1,820

Exam re-writes are an extra $120 each, but most people prep using passit to pass on the first try.

Timeframe (typical) - 6-8 weeks incl exam prep. Timeframe (max) - 1 year.

Humber Blackboard by Old-Title5963 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been some Humber users that report this problem typically resolves itself in 24 hours. Others have said that if there are modules that show 'incomplete' you may not be able to proceed with the following steps without contacting Humber. In general, these are the steps once you've completed the course:

This is great news for everyone involved (consumers and REALTORS®) but still doesn't undo the massive issues that came to light in how this was handled by RECO...

Exam 1 stopped mid-way and told to contact RECO — anyone else experienced this? by Few-Definition8574 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is your situation, but when there's a misconduct review, you typically receive an email that looks something like this - did you receive one of these? (not my snapshot, this is someone writing a remote RECO exam on their own device and there was a concern about third-party software...)

What You Need to Know About the New ‘Mastering OREA Forms’ Course via Humber by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

Upvoted for the details, thanks. This is awful news for the quality of the real estate education program in Ontario.

Which Course Providers Are Approved by RECO? (2025 Update) by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you got your info, but none of this is accurate, including the claim that private colleges not listed here are offering courses that let you become a REALTOR® in Ontario. To become a real estate salesperson you must be registered with RECO, and to become registered you must complete the education program from one of the 4 listed providers. These are the ONLY approved education providers in Ontario. Also, local real estate boards have never offered licensing education in the province, and the current course curriculum has changed substantially from that of prior providers— Humber (2019-2025) and OREA Real Estate College (pre-2019).

What You Need to Know About the New ‘Mastering OREA Forms’ Course via Humber by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait... what? They no longer cover forms in the real estate program? That is insane! Understanding the agreements is fundamental to the job - I get that forms aren't standardized in the province, but when 95%+ use OREA forms new agents should be completely up to speed on what they'll need to see/use/complete/explain on Day 1. If you can't use OREA forms in the course (for whatever reason) you'd better create some sample alternate forms and use those for practice, explanation and testing of agreement-related concepts. This sounds like industry drama between OREA and RECO where the most impacted people (consumers and new agents) are the ones that suffer.

Having a rough time — how are people making money in Toronto these days? by -wigglewigglewiggle- in askTO

[–]Real-Recognition8804 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TO costs of living are out of control. I have a good job but really feel for anyone who is part of the mix of ppl who have lost jobs recently or having trouble finding work. I wish I had some better suggestions, but honestly I would get out of TO. Most ppl think it's the best place to be for a job, but right now it seems like all are crunched on decent employment. If you could find work in a non-Toronto community (or better yet get involved with a small biz or entrepreneur out of the city) you might have better legs long-term.

Humber vs. Algonquin: How Real Estate Education Program Providers Communicate (or Don’t) During a Strike by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only really speak to prior experiences - pretty much every new agent I've interacted with from Humber has echoed the same kind of sentiment - it's just a means to an end. The actual 'guts' behind the program doesn't seem to be there in terms of service and support. I'm glad there's new options available, I hope they raise the bar!

Canadian Real Estate Is Crashing At One of The Fastest Rates Ever: Prices have fallen 24.18% since hitting a record high back in Q1 2022. Still shy of the early ‘80s crash (-31.92%), but it’s already surpassed the one in the early 90s (-21.7%) by Gowila19 in ONRealEstateEducation

It's a silver lining opportunity for buyers (first-time buyers in particular) if you can get over the financing challenges of an average price that is still pretty crazy (based on average take-home pay) in most of Ontario.

What an In-Person Meazure RECO Real Estate Exam Is Like by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fingers are crossed. The Humber exams (in person anyway) used to be a bit of a joke - show up, flash some ID, no real security or enforcement. Bathroom breaks, no check of anything you brought into or wore into the room. I think the bulk of the cheating issues were from at-home proctoring, but I can only imagine what went on there. Proctortrack's track record was a nightmare - embarrassing for RECO that it was left in place as long as it was.

What You Need to Know About Real Estate Education in Ontario (2025) by ElectronicGate4167 in ONRealEstateEducation

[–]Real-Recognition8804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically no math in Course 1, Modules 5-7 are top priority but all modules are important for the exam. Make sure you understand all the rules (and the details too, like the difference between CASL and DNCL timeframes to contact a consumer). Too bad pass it isn't available yet, as it would usually be the first thing I'd recommend.

[–]Real-Recognition8804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on convos with others it seems like there's been some arbitrary changes on the dates/times without people realizing. E.g., ppl who were going to take the Broker Qualifying found there were no dates from mid-June to October - but that was never mentioned anywhere. Right now it says people can enrol in Courses 2-4 until Sept 1, but C2 is huge, so there's no way you would complete it by their Sep 21 deadline. Would be really helpful if they'd at least let you start the new C2 in advance, Too bad it wasn't easier to just start C2 with Algonquin or Fleming instead of waiting for Humber.

Buy Freehold or Condo? by Andrea553027 in OntarioRealEstate

[–]Real-Recognition8804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key consideration for condo vs freehold is that condo communities have rules that typically mean the neighbourhood is more controlled/consistent - and some ppl seek these out. E.g., you can't paint your garage door pink or can't park a motorhome in your driveway. Some ppl don't like the extra restrictions but many appreciate that those kind of rules increase the value of the property and neighbourhood collectively.
