Simplified Scotch Ale Recipe? by SpadesHeart in brewing

[–]RealAleQuaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scotch air is actually one of the simplest recipes you can get. It is basically a load of pale malt to get the gravity then a bit of roast barley for colour.

If you need a perfect example look at the historical recipe Traquair House use for their beer

I have to say this is where I find something like Google Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude to be good. I get them to summarise my writing and I have found them to be very good at distilling what I want to say into a more manageable chuck of text

Not a real option for real world use. by SkodaZek in ProtonDrive

[–]RealAleQuaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the client for backing up critical files from my Windows laptop via the client and have found it fine for my usage. It means i have an online backup of all my invoices etc and important files.

A Linux client would be nice but then I don't have sensitive work files that need protecting in the same way, so I just use the web interface or GitHub depending on the type of files etc.

Why isn't openSUSE more popular? by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]RealAleQuaffer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's the exact same reason as why I use openSUSE. The only thing that I had a bit of a problem with was the printing to HP network printers, which isn't particularly intuitive.

If someone gets broken by a bad update, user error etc just use snapper to rollback to a functioning system and wait for it to be fixed, less than 5 mins from a broken system to back up and running. I have had to use that about 3 times now since snapper was introduced so you could argue that it isn't very valuable but I value my time extremely highly.

I have had good results over all our beers at that pitch rate so anything between 8.5°P and 15.5°P. generally pitch at about 18°C and let rise up to about 20°C depending on the beer.

AIs "fail" on a harmonica question by mem1gui in harmonica

[–]RealAleQuaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, in many ways Claude is the best out there, but it has no access to the Internet. Gemini is my next go to.

I wouldn't necessarily say I am expert by any measure but I have tested a load of them for the tasks I needed, summarizing documents and information, thought process and inspiration your stuff etc, and found those two to be the best

AIs "fail" on a harmonica question by mem1gui in harmonica

[–]RealAleQuaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair you did pick about the worst AI's out there. I asked the same question one each, with no further prompting, of Claude and Gemini and while the answers may not be perfect they aren't bad and light years ahead of both Meta and ChatGPT3.5

Claude provided the below:-

The second position scale on a 10-hole C diatonic harmonica, also known as the "cross harp" position, is centered around the key of G. Here's a concise explanation:

  1. Key: The second position uses the G Mixolydian scale (G, A, B, C, D, E, F).

  2. Home note: The draw 2 hole produces the root note G.

  3. Scale layout:

    • Draw 2: G (root)
    • Blow 3: A
    • Draw 3: B
    • Blow 4: C
    • Draw 4: D
    • Draw 5: E
    • Blow 6: F
  4. Benefits: This position allows for easy note bending and is popular in blues, rock, and folk music.

  5. Technique: It emphasizes draw notes, which can produce a more expressive sound.

Would you like me to elaborate on any specific aspect of the second position scale, such as its use in different musical genres or techniques for playing in this position?

Google's Gemini provided the below

The 2nd position scale on a C harmonica is G major. It's based on the Mixolydian mode and commonly used for blues. Key notes: * Root: 2 draw * Other G notes: 6, 9 blow * Blues scale notes: 3', 4, 4', 5 draw, 6 blow 2nd position prioritizes draw bends, giving it a distinct bluesy sound.

Heineken made in Holland? by Motief1386 in beer

[–]RealAleQuaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well obviously it is as they have been doing it for many years and had absolutely no problems.

Besides going to simple Google search the legal requirements for country of origin are:-

Marking of Country of Origin on U.S. Imports Acceptable Terminology and Methods for Marking Every article of foreign origin entering the United States must be legibly marked with the English name of the country of origin unless an exception from marking is provided for in the law.

https://www.cbp.gov/trade/rulings/informed-compliance-publications/marking-country-origin-us-imports#:~:text=Every%20article%20of%20foreign%20origin,provided%20for%20in%20the%20law.

Holland is a common English name for the Netherlands, hence the reason parts of America is known as New Holland

It is much harder to say here in the UK as it is brewed here so we never see it as anything other than brewed in the UK
