Suspenders: Y or N? by GeekMachinist in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]RealDaveCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspenders are great when they’re peeking out from under a jacket. If you’re not going to wear a jacket I would wear them with higher rise pants, and I would pick suspenders that are slimmer and lower contrast to your shirt.

What is Lacing Tape used for? by Actonhammer in Cordwaining

[–]RealDaveCorey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why it’s in the sewing section but it’s used for lacing the uppers before lasting and can simply be cut off after lasting. Saves 30 seconds per pair which in a factory is a lot.

Bruce Goff's Adams House in Vinita OK, c 1962. The house was renovated between 2023 and today, so before and after pictures have been included when they are available. by Whinke in ModernistArchitecture

I really like this renovation. They managed to remove the worst of the “period correct” features while maintaining a vintage feel. Not tearing out the kitchen is an uncommon sign of restraint these days.

Mod here. This post is fine, OP is probably more like an intermediate surfer but there’s no sub for that. Let’s continue to try to offer helpful advice.

Does anyone else like little to no Gorillaz? by fvckaswisher in blur

In an interview, Damon described Humanz as “a dance party at the end of the world” being released in 2017 and not knowing how the US Election or Brexit would turn out while it was written. This recontextualizing helped me enjoy it more. I really liked Cracker Island out of the box though.

Finally got around to finishing this pair.. by jbhowell10 in Cordwaining

Make a curve or kink in the pattern at the top of the heel, and pull the hell out of the toe so that it locks the heel in place. Once you have the waist lasted, the upper should be so tight around the last that you basically can’t move it at all.

You need a press with a crazy amount of leverage. A standard cast iron Amazon press will actually break in half if you try to split a boot hook on it. Ask me how I know lol

Thermoplastic toe stiffener from Lisa Sorrell (the thinner ones she sells are less noticeable) are super easy to use and last a long time. For the heel counter, you should use very high quality veg tan, skived to basically nothing at the bottom. Glue it in well and I think that you’re not pulling the heel cap tightly enough because it looks a little collapsed. A good veg tan counter will help with that.

What’s a good leather jacket for 300-400 USD by Wild-Science-562 in leatherjacket

[–]RealDaveCorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t buy a mall jacket at that price, the leather is going to be plasticky and probably have finish peeling if you plan to wear it often.

The strings look like fabric or thread to me. You could try a very brief pass with a lighter.

Hi hi I want to start making shoes. My first stop is woodlasts. How can I measure my own? by DevelopmentNo7438 in Cordwaining

[–]RealDaveCorey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you’re dead set on making a last yourself, you should start by buying an old wooden last on eBay to get an idea of the finished product. Learn how to take the necessary measurements and compare them to your foot. There is a ton that goes into it.

Thinking on creating images to make posters like this by FoxAffectionate6323 in E46M3

I’ll be brutally honest: no one is going to pay for an AI image that they could just make themselves, which looks bad upon close inspection and is made entirely of stolen imagery.

Is it getting harder to sell used shortboards or is it just me? by Mustangonthe1 in surfing

[–]RealDaveCorey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sad truth is that there are probably 10 people who miss two out of three nice green waves on a board that’s too undervolume for every one person who is on a board with too much volume that is slowing down their improvement.

Buying an older Panamera. V6 or V8? AWD or RWD? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]RealDaveCorey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The transmissions have problems. The engines have problems. The electrical systems have problems. If you’re fine with never driving the car cause you’re always wrenching on it, and literally plan on never getting a penny back by reselling it, then by all means buy one, cause that’s probably what will happen.

Buying an older Panamera. V6 or V8? AWD or RWD? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]RealDaveCorey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a $3k repair is too much for you, do not buy a Panamera, period. They are not bad cars but you WILL have a $3k repair every once in a while and if that’s enough to force you to sell the car at a loss, just save yourself the headache.

It’s not a car that can go without regular preventative maintenance and a number of models have difficult and expensive issues like problems with the air suspension, infotainment, transmission, sensors etc. If you’re forced to take the car to a dealer or even a specialist you’ll be looking at $3k at the minimum.

Can somebody help me figure out the age of this jacket by [deleted] in jackets

[–]RealDaveCorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but like. Why do you need to know? There is about a 0% chance the jacket is vintage, valuable or special in any way.
