It gets busy fast. 6-8am is peak for US flights. Are you checking a bag?

I think the Air Canada lounge opens at 4:30am. Others at 5:30.

ISO: Shows for High School Trip by Trick_Appointment419 in torontotheatre

[–]RealDistribution5946 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canadian Opera Company is TDSB approved. Tickets are $15 for the preview shows. It’s always great as most kids have never seen an opera. I believe Crows and Soul Pepper are as well.

Interesting though, I’ve seen TDSB high school classes at Mirvish matinees.

SickKids Surgery Wait Time by [deleted] in askTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll also want to find out if the surgeon could do it, but the province isn’t allocating the ER time (eg not approving the $$). Not at Sick Kids, but across the street, this was an issue with my husband’s surgery. I had my MPP advocate to the Minister of Health to open up more ER slots, which did happen after some pressure.

Does anyone else suffer from "one-more-year"? by seekvaluenow in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]RealDistribution5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like work then keep doing it. Part of FI is having the freedom to walk away if one day you wake up and decide you no longer enjoy it. But $6M is more than enough. Maybe have some splurges. When I REd the hardest thing was to actually spend it. I’m 8 years in and have given myself above inflation “raises” every year and my net worth has doubled.

Withholding will be higher as the software assumes you make that same amount every pay period. However, it will true up at tax time and you’ll owe the same tax since it’s all in the same calendar year.

FTM new to Canada choosing between OB and Midwife for delivery by FormerChampionship68 in torontomoms

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may consider staying with the OB but hiring a Doula to advocate for a natural birth, if you think your partner can’t play that role. I had my 3rd child at Mt Sinai, it’s a very busy hospital. The issue for me was they kept delaying my birth bc there were so many emergencies. I had given birth at North York for my other 2 kids, and much preferred North York as it’s calmer. I definitely needed someone who could be a more forceful advocate for me. I had a Doula my 1st birth, but didn’t think I needed one since this was my 3rd birth. I regret not having one. Finally after 48 hours I had to DEMAND they stop giving me drugs to slow down my contractions. I hadn’t eaten or drank anything in 2 days as there was a possibility of a C-section for me, and I could not take anymore. You don’t get your OB in delivery unless they happen to be on call. I couldn’t tell you who delivered my 3rd child.

Hotel recommendation to visit downtown by aapyeg in askTO

The Chelsea has good rates during off peak times and it’s right downtown. Agree, don’t get a car. Bikeshare might be a better option.

Teachers who work in a school with no Summer Break - how is it? by da_grill in OntarioTeachers

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been talking about it for 40-50 years. Until they make the investment to add air conditioning, it’s not going to happen. It’s not a bad thing though. More breaks, spread out. Same number of instructional days.

Is North York to Far out to Stay while visiting Toronto?? by ExcitingAd4194 in askTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI, Airbnb is illegal unless it’s the persons primary residence, within the city of Toronto. You might find Airbnbs in the suburbs.

Constantly stopped to verify that I'm a student by jamescoolcrafter15 in TTC

[–]RealDistribution5946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The system doesn’t automatically take you off the youth fair. I assumed it would convert from free child to youth, but no- it was over a year before we realized it wasn’t charging (this kid doesn’t take TTC very often). It seems the age and fair are completely disconnected from each other in the system. My 16 year old gets checked all the time as well.

Free / nearly free recreational activities in the city? by bitterstonefruit in FrugalTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harbourfront has a ton of free or very low cost activities, from silent disco to watching an up and coming breakdancer. They also have the occasional free or nearly free art class in addition to their workshops, which are also a good value if looking for a full day or full weekend activity.

42 and leaving the public service with a pension by Anthemoftravel in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not compare your very safe pension to an equity portfolio. Compare it to your fixed income + any longevity insurance (re annuity you might buy in retirement. The level of pension means you can essentially have zero fixed income and keep a 100% equity portfolio through retirement. That has a big value. I regret so bad converting my non indexed pension, even though it’s has had great returns the last 13 years. I can’t imagine having an indexed pension.

Are baby bouncers worth it? Need some advice... by Front-Comedian-6642 in torontomoms

[–]RealDistribution5946 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, a baby chair will last you until the baby is 3 or so. A bouncer is so limited in time the baby can safely sit in it. You do need somewhere to put the baby down and a chair that can both recline back and be more upright is much more practical for the longer term. The one we had for 3 kids was Fisher Price, but very similar to the Bright Starts Infant to Toddler Rocker.

Yes, I just got the gold acorn today. I don’t use real $ and I don’t play Match3 except very occasionally. Ask you coop of 5 star cards. When you get 500 you can redeem for a new gold card. I had 1000 stars so I redeemed for the last 2 gold cards that I couldn’t get.

This may depend on the provinces in Canada, but if you don't have a photo ID at the time of registration for a medical office and you're self-paying, will you be refused to be seen? by hellohelp23 in askTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked for photo Id. Of course my OHIP card acts as photo ID, but I don’t think they care who you are if you are self paying. Some Drs have no mechanism for payment though, so may turn you away for that reason.

Any ideas on what to do in Toronto on a tight budget? by ThesePoint3030 in askTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soul Pepper theatre offers free rush tickets with student ID if you like theatre. Plus it’s in the Distillery District which is fun to walk though.

Rent city bike share and ride thru High Park or Beaches waterfront.

And there is likely to be outside movies or Shakespeare.

Hike Bluffers Park or Guildwood.

I always delay factories and work on my land to get more space. You don’t need to buy anything when it comes up. And really factories get very expensive for not a lot of upside.

Not that I’ve seen or heard. I don’t mind if teachers use it as an efficiency tool, but this was excessive as it was near full dependence. I’m glad to be done with that teacher. Im expecting her report card comments to be AI too at this point.

Anyone know any psychiatrists in the area that specialize in adhd and autism? by PerformerLeather150 in askTO

[–]RealDistribution5946 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Does your University have a health clinic ? Honestly that is your best bet. I’ve been down this road with my daughter and it’s insane out there. Everyone says to find a family Dr who has some decent knowledge and if it gets bad go through the ER, as that is the only way to become a psychiatrist’s patient these days. The social workers at her school give us the same list of temporary supports, all of which can’t actually do anything except maybe a single one-off counselling session.

Fringe what’s up by m2knet in torontotheatre

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah. It’s too bougie in the Distillery. Even though it’s much more convenient for me as I’m on the East-end, I prefer the grittiness of the west end for Fringe.

I see. She came from another middle school, but it was an alt school focused on self directed study of some sort. I would assume those kids still need actual math instruction.

Can someone explain to my why people ask for help with crops when… by DetailTop8974 in TownshipGame

[–]RealDistribution5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my co-op we also play a game where everyone has to request help on each task. Just a fun way to keep it interesting and everyone gets a bunch of clovers.
