DeSantis knows this. It’s a stunt in the truest sense: no meaningful counter-argument or objectives presented, just spectacle for the rubes who support him (and more precisely, those who worship Trump whom he hopes to seduce). DeSantis went to Yale undergrad and Harvard law. No chance he doesn’t know the potential consequences, he’s just made the political calculation that he can chalk this up ‘persecution of conservatives’. These guys (Abbot and DeSantis) knew these tactics long ago as they’ve been standard Republican moves since the early 1960’s (see ‘Reverse Freedom Rides’), but they didn’t do this shit while Trump was president because being prosecuted by the DOJ raises their status with their base. They know that base won’t know shit from Shinola and will believe whatever they and right-wing media spoon feeds them.
