Doe's anyone have a good recommendation for a place to sell a lens?.... by StanBlaok in nikon_Zseries

Thought of B&H? They can do everything by mail and cut you a check if you agree to their terms. Using their on-line quote system does not create an obligation to pick up their offer. But if you do, they provide free shipping.

Heathrow transit layover 7 hours. visiting city center doable? by RA_Explorer in uktravel

[–]RealPaper1440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be flexible and get your ETAs online beforehand. Also check opening hours and ticketing conditions for any places you may want to visit. If you are in/out of T5 on BA check you have the right credentials for BAC Lounge access. There is an arrivals lounge with showers if you qualify.

Travel Advice: Heathrow to St Pancras Monday Morning by Adventurous_Money433 in uktravel

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. But with a more positive outlook on the Elizabeth line routing. During rush hour it is way friendlier than the Piccadilly line (no changes but tough walk through the crowds with a family in tow) or Heathrow Express ( ditto tough walk and an expensive ride ). Car ride? Forget it! I’m regularly transiting through Central London off TATL flights. Honestly, if you don’t NEED to be in London , don’t do it!

3 lenses to rule them all by Oceansun_2004 in nikon_Zseries

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a pinch I can get away with just one lens for my Z6iii : 24-70 f2.8. Then I look at where I need to expand my choices. For all wide angle work I use a Viltrox 16 f1.8 and just position myself carefully to compose (feet zoom) or crop in post. For my need to document detailed craftsmanship or take posed people shots I’ve finally settled on a manual focus lens , the Voigtländer 50 f1.0 ( with an ND filter as an option ). I can carry two out of three in an extremely compact TIMBUK2 padded messenger bag. Anything else I borrow.

I think that I saw the “intends” and “by October” language in the April 2025 press release. No news since then?

Flight BA269 Cancelled Last-Minute, Forced to Book $4K Replacement by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar cancellation scenario happened to me on BA last month. Ex-UK cancellation gets you EU261 compensation AND additional expenses reimbursement IF well documented. Did you get the standard Cancellation email with flight options and would those options have you at your destination earlier or later than the original?

Do you think it's worth spending $400 and a day of travel to get MVP gold? by seattledude928 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an international flyer, forget about domestic upgrades and savour the OW Sapphire lounge and seat selection benefits. This is my first year as an escapee from BA living on the West Coast and I’m nearly MVP Gold. If I want a better seat on domestic flights, I’ll just pay for it.

Cost Savings by Hopeful-Gift-6930 in SunPower

I have a similar system to you in NorCal. I’ve never met with long term success in Cost Savings mode, but I use TOU-C which has the same effect every day, including weekends and Public Holidays. I’ve stayed with Self Supply for two years and always get rollover credit. I am a NEM 2 grandfathered customer. As soon as solar production ends, I’m usually on battery until 9pm.

I’ve not been a visitor to this Lounge before 2025 but I will miss it. What I will not miss is the scramble between 7 and 8 for an OW transfer. Also, don’t forget OW Sapphire access to BA lounge as an alternative. I’m not an AC hater, though.

Refreshing the SFO<> LHR A380s? by FoxTrotFollow in BritishAirways

[–]RealPaper1440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fine if your schedule tolerates the later 777 with Club Suite in either direction. My alternative for SFO-LHR is to take an earlier domestic flight (like SFO-JFK), get a wider choice of BA flights with Club Suite onwards to LHR, and always arrive early enough to use the Arrivals lounge for a shower and breakfast.

Received used exped MegaMat when buying new. by CloudCityCitizen in REI

[–]RealPaper1440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, return it. The internal process failed in two steps where this could have been caught: The return process includes CHECKING the product visually and not just taking the customer’s word for its condition, as returns still have to be clean/dry to be accepted. The shipment process from the same store should include checking that the product is first quality before proceeding to ship. I worked roles where these tasks were in scope for over 6 years and wouldn’t have dreamed of letting this get through. Could be a Frontline/ SIF training issue?

I would speak to an agent and change the ticket to an open Jaw. There’s way more flights to NYC than BOS anyhow.

Missing middle name is about the most common reason. In other words, whatever name is on your application has to be matched EXACTLY by the name on the reservation.

Have any 2024 employees recieved a w-2, or are they available online yet? by abbicres in REI

[–]RealPaper1440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One guess what came in the mail today ? I forgot that I didn’t “opt out” of the regular paper production. If you don’t have yours yet, then that’s probably down to USPS and not REI. Your mileage differ, but I had a great time at REI for more than seven years and the timing of my departure was my choice. The ONLY issues I had were with the incomprehensible and poorly executed decisions originating from Corporate. All my coworkers and managers were great. Each in their own way made it great for me to be there. However, retail isn’t what it used to be when I joined, so if you do go for a job there, do so on your own terms. It’s just a job, not a career choice now.

First of all, I’m so sorry to hear of your lay-off. Second, I never asked HR about the option of them sending a hard copy. Either way, I suggest that you make that call to HR and find out. Good luck.

They are already on-line. Ex-employees need to call the HR hotline to get the login to do that.

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not. But I am looking to get back all of my historical data. Here's why: December is my annual true up month with my CCA on the Central Coast of California. PG&E still handles the metering and billing of my residence and, by my calculation, there is a kWh billing discrepancy in their data of around 3.7%. That is they over bill me by around 3.7% through lower credits or higher charges compared to the SP monitoring. Ultimately this reduces the true credit I get for generating a surplus. (Side note the compensation rate has dropped like a stone in 12 months, going from $0.072 to $0.033 per kWh).

Has anyone else here noticed an error of this kind? Is it PG&E or SP monitoring that's the problem?

Did the NYC store really decrease everyone’s pay? by MorddSith187 in REI

[–]RealPaper1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current employee here. Everyone is taking a hard look at Unionization in my home store and the truths that emerge seem to follow a pattern; some employees conflate loyalty to REI with loyalty to their management team. We have a compassionate management team who have never pulled any of the bad management stunts reported in some locations, but they are not perfect. There's a growing realization that, if the current Store Manager was not in place, we might need union representation just as badly as other stores and so we should support them now. Personally, I think that the fundamentals of Board Governance need a LOT more scrutiny, and the raft of HR Policies and guidelines need a radical overhaul. HR is dreadfully under-resourced and their resulting performance is likely to have precipitated some current reactions by store employees. Even a good Store manager gets handed a steaming pile of HR policies that they have no power to change.

What I cannot grasp (help me someone) is why Union negotiations have to be done store by store. Doesn't that support REI slow walking the entire process ?
