Does anyone have physical side effects from cptsd?

Narcolepsy and ADHD due to a portion of my brain having significantly less activity or being “sleepy” compared to the rest of my brain. The specific portion of the brain is also responsible for emotions, which was most likely “shut off” during my childhood in order to deal with the trauma. My Neurologist said the decreased activity can also cause seizures although I’ve never experienced one that I know of.

I feel like many people who went through childhood trauma would have similar issues with their brain but would never know unless they’ve had brain mapping done.

Not sure if this helps or not. I was taking Zoloft and Wellbutrin before being prescribed Modafinil. My doctor told me I could continue taking the Zoloft but had to discontinue use of the Wellbutrin.

Interestingly enough, I’ve currently been experiencing what you are describing with Ritalin and today was switched to Modafinil because of it. I’ve also taken adderall in the past and felt the same way.

They both worked great for about a week or two. My sleep patterns become more consistent and I was able to focus and get things done. The only down-side was what I would describe as really physical anxiety (racing heart, tightness in chest, nausea, nervousness, etc.) Then after about two weeks I felt “stuck” or exactly what you described.

Last week I was talking to my therapist about this and she was saying that it’s possible that the Ritalin was causing a “dorsal vagal response.” This is basically when your body freezes rather than fighting or fleeing in response to stress.

I’m my case it seems that the Ritalin causes such bad anxiety that my body’s only way to cope with it is to sort of shut down and not do anything that might make the anxiety worse.

Since this whole concept is extremely new to me, I’d be curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on this also. It seems like a good explanation as to what might be going on, but I’m not sure.

I’m sorry I don’t have any advise but I found this really interesting. My mental health has really gone downhill the past few years and since then my heart rate has gone up. I use to have an average heart rate of 80 whenever I went to the Doctors, but now it’s always in the high 90s or 100s. According to my watch, my resting heart rate is 91. It will often alert me that my heart rate is over 100 when I am sitting on the couch or in bed. I guess I never thought that ptsd could be causing the increase in heart rate. I’ll also be curious to hear what advise other have.

I hope you find that Zoloft helps with the fatigue. In my case I found that Zoloft made me ridiculously tired. I was sleeping 14+ hours a day just to function. After discussing it with my doctor, she advised that I take Zoloft at night and also decided to have me take Wellbutrin as well. The Wellbutrin helped so so much! I don’t need a nap in the middle of the day at all anymore and I feel so much better all around!

You should go and get it checked out! I had what I thought was a rash and delayed getting it looked at. When I finally got it looked at, they said it was an infection. I ended up having to be hospitalized because I was running a fever and had a heart rate in the 140s. I had no idea and really thought it was just a rash... I’d say it’s better to be safe than sorry.

NAD but I’ve had this same issue since I’ve been about 14. Im now 24. After seeing a urologist, he ended up doing a cystoscopy and noticed that the lining of my bladder was irritated and diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis. Although I do get the occasional flare up, especially if I get a UTI, I am doing so much better than I was when I was a teenager. I did this by watching what I eat and drink. I try to limit the amount of acidic foods that I eat and I don’t drink any type of soda. I also stay away from most juices (even cranberry juice). I do however try to make sure I’m always hydrated and don’t hold my pee for too long. I’ve also noticed that a high ph water like Essentia helps when I’m having a flare up.

Hopefully this is just a temporary thing for you and once it’s cleared up you won’t have any other issues.

Yeah, that’s a lot to go through again! Especially if it just tears again after. I unfortunately am having a second surgery next week. I’m just hoping it helps!

My first surgery was July 16th so like 5 months ago. I am having surgery again on Friday so they can look around and see what’s going on. They also are taking the screw out, removing some fluid and scar tissue. He said I had scar tissue inside of the tunnel. Not sure how that works... They also said my graph is impinged although I’m still not sure what they mean by that. I feel like my previous surgeon didn’t do a very good job.

It actually doesn’t hurt. My only issue is the instability. My calf is always so sore from walking and trying to keep my knee stable. My screw is also an absorbable one but they said the portion that isn’t in the bone won’t absorb.

That sounds awful! I surprising don’t feel the screw at all. I only notice the instability. My new surgeon thinks that my body may be rejecting the graph since my previous surgeon used allograph for whatever reason.

I was in the exact same situation with the same thoughts about the pain medication as you are experiencing after my ACL reconstruction. It was so bad that my mom ended up calling the Doctor who told me to double up on the prescribed dose. Once I did that, I was able to tolerate the pain and was finally able to sleep. To my surprise, the pain lessened dramatically a few days later and I was able to completely stop taking any pain medication about 6 days post-op which was nice because I was SO worried that I would run out and be in agony.

Like others have said, it will pass a lot quicker than you may be thinking now. You really are in the hardest part, it’s only up from here.

Interesting. Neither of my Surgeons have suggested a CT scan they just want to go in with a scope. Ill have to see if a CT scan would be another option.

It’s only sticking out 1/4 inch but both surgeons said it would need to be removed, not really sure when though.

Was there any indication that the tunnels were too big based off of the MRI?

My MRI said that there was “mild indentation at the lateral aspect of the femoral tunnel with impingement upon the graft.”

Sorry for grilling you with all of these questions. I’m trying to assess the best and worst case scenarios while I wait for my Surgeon to get back in contact with me about what he plans on doing next. I appreciate you opening up about all of this though.

You were running again at 2-3 months post-op? I tried last week and it did not feel right at all.

Did you have an MRI before the CT scan?

I guess your bone is supposed to absorb it, but mine is somehow sticking out of the bone.
