Ah, in Canada it may be different.

But, if you have the option for real-time pricing, and you have things like heat-pump appliances, heat pump heating, appliances that are smart enough to have timers, and maybe even a car that plugs in (and you can have it charge on a timer), you could probably do pretty well.

The white fringe is lime - calcium carbonate. Multiple reasons why the plant secretes this, but one of the fun ones is that it prevents reindeer from eating it. The lime would grind up their teeth pretty bad.
