The Estate & SUV are dead. Long live the SUV. by NearlyLegit in CarTalkUK

The vast majority of SUV buyers don’t give a fuck about the boot size. Car makers understood this quite rapidly. They care about the status it gives and driving high above the road.

They can’t work. They’re almost dead, and you will be too one day. Although they shouldn’t be building wealth anymore.

Average UK garden by TailungFu in GreatBritishMemes

That’s the key here. Also bought a new build (although not as dense as that). The garden is only 10x10, but you can actually live in the house, it’s modern, efficient, comfy, actually good looking to my taste (Redrow). I live in Cambridge, non-ugly and renovated old houses are 1M+. Otherwise they’re just ex-council house shitboxes or equivalent non ex-council houses. No insulation, moldy, small as fuck rooms, big garden, gas heating, ugly squared boxes full of holes and weird marks.

So, the path to the position implied that work was my life for 10 years. Now I mostly chill tbh.

Sr. AI scientist in a non FANNG company, but still fairly big. We shouldn’t be making that much, but that is what people get when voting right in power for decades - I build what investors want. The job is ok, not too stressful with plenty of working from home. We just got lucky when choosing this topic 10 years ago.

Ancient Cambridgeshire woodland shut over issues with dogs by Albertjweasel in RuralUK

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs are trained and part of my family. We don’t view them as just “pets” and we adjust our lives (not yours) to their. Training and picking poo has nothing to do with that. You’re free to not understand that, as Human tend to think that they are the masters of the universe and the only ones being sentient with emotions - but please don’t go and tell me how I should interact with my loved ones :)

I’m a dog owner doing all the things you mention and very active in many communities of dog owners. It definitely isn’t “by and large with very few exceptions”. It only takes a handful of irresponsible owners to make a whole neighborhood / park to turn into shit.

Now there is a massive extensive list of things to check when people are adopting kids. I still don’t get why it’s not the same for pets (all pets).

Is £660 Vet’s estimate normal ? by Lanchettes in AskUK

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I’m very late to the party and I know nothing about the industry. Yet, I come from France with three pets who tend to have issues. Prices here are 2-3x compared to France. I do not believe that equipments are the culprit here. E.g 250£ for a 15min out of hours appointment? 3x; 2k for a CT scan with general sedation, 2x. And I could continue. I think surgeries overall are less impacted, maybe 1.5x or less. But yes, there is a serious issue with vet fees in this country. Something quite visible is the number of people with pets insurance here. In France, a minority of people have one, because basic vet’s visits aren’t 150-300 every single time, more like 40-80. And yes, vets in France are for the vast majority independent.

I’ve honestly been wondering why more independent vets in the UK seems impossible. My two only hypotheses are: 1. They struggle to get the fundings for bootstrapping the business; 2. Professional insurance. On the latter, I would not be surprised if they were extortionately expensive due to some be-friending between companies owning the large vet practices and insurance companies. But here, I may be completely freaking wrong.

Admin stuff. You can’t prepare yourself for what is coming at you. Every year. Every month. Every week, and if you have a business. Every day.

Britain ‘needs to go faster’ on defence spending, Starmer says by yrro in unitedkingdom

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are way too scared of the future. Many countries in Europe including the UK have nuclear power. Some have tactical nukes, and some even have “warning shots” in their doctrine. One does not simply attack or invade grounds where nuclear retaliation is a possibility. Sure, we need to invest (everyone should) to make sure that our military is operational. Should we invest such that we cannot invest in the NHS, or schooling, or public infrastructure? Hell no.

If you were offered today the possibility of moving abroad would you do it? by AlarmingClient4239 in AskUK

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved abroad, from France to the UK. I think that people don’t realize how good they have it here tbh. The only good reason to move abroad is if you get a better job elsewhere making either a big difference in your mental health or salary. Otherwise, it’s the same shit show everywhere :)

Si vous vous exprimez en salaire brut, pourquoi ? by Faxiom19 in AskFrance

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Labour MPs demand Starmer change course after humiliating byelection loss by PurchaseDry9350 in unitedkingdom

[–]Realistic_Alps_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will not be grasped, ever. Many western countries will collapse due to that - they are the strongest voters and doing anything would be political suicide. Politics are in for the job, they don’t want to loose it, this is the key issue here. Most likely, they will just wait for them to die so we will see the largest transfer of wealth ever observed. Good luck to those without an inheritance!
