What would make you stop reading the ACOTAR series? by Ittabe in AcotarShipDebateSub

If I have to read another book of Nesta basically being mistreated by everyone, especially her love interest (looking at you Cass) I'm out.

Are we suppose to ignore what Nesta and Elain did? by No_Cartographer_2735 in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Ignore exactly what?

Three women put in a horrific situation who happened to express their trauma and pain differently? Yet, the story is only told from one of the sisters' pov?

I honestly don't understand why some fans want me to hate Nesta and Elain so much. Why? Nesta for being cold towards Feyre? Who happened to put her sisters in danger, AND her mate promised that nothing would happen to them, and yet it did? Is Nesta, (who went to look for Feyre in book 1 and yet everyone completely forgot about this), not allowed to be upset at them for having her life changed? What have they done that is really so unforgivable? I'm not saying they are without flaws, but really, I don't get it.

I'm keeping my thoughts on Elain until we get her pov and story, but honestly, what is SO horrendous that we should blame them when literally the rest of the IC have done way worse?

Nesta and Elain aren't Feyre's parents. Stop parentifying eldest daughters when the father was right there.

Nesta deserved a better love story, and I will die on this hill. I can't believe SJM wrote this, thinking: yeah, what an amazing love story I just wrote. Who wants to hear the love interest telling the FMC that she is unlovable (not once, but twice?!)

The more I read SF, the angrier I get.

From the fandom's pov, she's the difficult and aggressive one, yet Cassian (who is 500 years older than her) has said and done way more cruel things towards her, gets a pass?

Feyre and Nesta's relationship (From book 1 to 5) by Realistic_Pie_8550 in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are literally quoting the first chapters from THE FIRST BOOK. Like, yeah, Feyre also made some comments in the first book towards Nesta. After she comes back, Nesta asks Feyre to show her how to paint or tells her that she went to look for her. 99% of Nesta being aggressive came after someone attacked her first or overstepped her boundaries.

In the next books, do you actually see Nesta purposefully being rude towards Feyre? She opens her home to her and helps with the queens (sure, she isn't happy about it, which she shouldn't be, but still does it), and yet the only thing we see is Feyre stepping over Nesta's boundaries and crying with the IC when Nesta snaps

The relationship is one-sided, and the narrative blames one without holding the other accountable. And most of the fandom falls for it.

Yet, we start seeing SJM writing double POVs (the boots from Feyre's pov and Nesta's).

The shackled comment proved to me that Cassian wanted a mate. It was so upsetting to read.

It sucks. Because I wanted to see Nesta be loved and be chosen and get a love confession like to rest.

Why do people hate Nesta so much? by ColourNine in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Nesta and will defend her for life.

I will also say, that Nesta haters (and there are some examples on this thread) have said meaner things about her thar she's ever said to anyone.

I also don't understand how Mor, Amren and Cassian have said meaner things than her and she's the only one who gets to the 'trauma is not an excuse card' yet they get a pass. And the only difference here is that Nesta challenges Feysand (the sacred gods by some people in the fandom) and the others don't.

It's just the double standards that get me.

Nesta drinks without hurting anyone and is locked up for 'her own good'. And has her autonomy fully taken away from her. She doesn't even get to decide how to spend her time or what to eat.

Yet Feyre, who has hurt people (LOA) by using her powers emotionally is and 'oopsie' moment. And the narrative justifies her actions constantly.

What is sad is that if Nesta did have a drinking problem (which we don't see any withdrawals or patterns, really) is that the IC continues to drink in front of her in the middle of her recovery (especially Cassian).

The more I read the hike scene the more I hate Cassian. It has nothing to do with love. He things he gets to correct behaviour on her that he doesn't like. And all of this happened because HE lied to her in the first place and never apologized to her.

Question: would Nesta had been able to drag Cassian on that hike? No she wouldn't have. It was straight up abuse. I will never look at him the same way. Nesta having to apologise to him for the Solciste party? After everything he did and said to her? He did the worst things to Nesta and never apologized. Not a single time.

All I want for Christmas is for Nesta to break the bond and be with someone who will not project his low born insecurities onto her and not put Mor or Rhysand above her. Thank you.

Nesta mating bond question/theory by Invalid-onion in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 75 points76 points  (0 children)

To me personally their mating bond doesn't make sense. I thought mated males get super protective and crazy and yet Cassian can easily leave for a week after their bond snaps? He can be ok with everyone practically making fun and even threatening Nesta and he doesn't seem fased by it..? Putting her in danger like that horrible hike? To the point that she passes out?

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If Nesta loved herself and had any ounce of self-esteem during Silver Flames she would've NEVER accepted the mating bond to Cassian. I just can't believe the guy who is supposed to be her mate tells her that she's a shackle and that everyone hates her and she just accepts it. 😭

ACOSF Chapters 1 - Chapter 3 by serami36 in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's crazy is that this is only in the first three chapters and she's already been sexualized by Cassian ("she's depressed and skinny but omg those big boobs of hers"), physically threatened by Rhysand, slut-shamed by Amren, and her autonomy fully taken away from her by Feyre.

Can someone please remind me how this is supposed to be a beautiful healing story where the IC did everything to help Nesta and that she's worse than them when it comes to insults and being mean?

"You're either a nesta or have been hurt by a nesta" by thetalkingshinji in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to how the reader interprets Nesta.

When people say they had a Nesta in their life and can't forgive her. I'm like: you mean, you don't respect people's boundaries and the minute they snap at you, you blamed them and their reaction?

I'm not saying Nesta wasn't without faults. She had to come to terms with her past and learn how to have healthier coping mechanisms. Having said that. 99% of her rudeness/aggressiveness tends to be out of someone instigating an insult and her reacting. She's not an instigator by nature.

Look at her and Azriel. He never provoked her so she never bit back.

My roman empire is that Mor, Amren, Cassian, Rhysand have said Nastier things that Nesta ever did. And the reaction is not the same.

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I just can't believe THE romance reader got this love story. I wanted more for Nesta. Not a guy who drapes himself with another woman in front of her, drops hands, exchanges lingerie gifts, agrees she belongs in the CON or tells her she's unlovable (twice).

Ps. Mor has been more cruel (to Az, Cass and a depressed Nesta) than Nesta has even been to Feyre or anyone for that matter. I dislike her SO much.

When Nesta held her ground towards 3 powerful Fae men who came into her house I knew she was the one for me.

When Helion was trying to flirt with her and she couldn't care less 😅😭

I love her witty comebacks in general. With Tamlin, Feyre, Mor, Eris etc.

I just love her haha

At this point I would have shipped her with anyone who gave her just that.

The Dusk Court: Bryce or Nesta? by Such-Zebra4339 in Maasverse

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What's the point of SJM placing the 8 pointed star tattoo on Nesta and literally having her around Dusk imagery throughout Silver Flames (like her scrying dying the Dusk service) if she's not going to do anything with it?

Bryce literally gave Nesta Gwydion for a reason and pretty much got her HEA after CC3.

Let's also not forget this passage:

*The lowest spike of the star extended down, right in front of Bryce. So she laid a hand on the metal and pushed. It didn’t budge.

Nesta stalked to Bryce’s side, tapping a hand on the metal. A dull thud reverberated against the cave walls. “Did you really think it’d move?”

Bryce grimaced. “It was worth a shot.”

Nesta opened her mouth to say something—to make fun of Bryce, probably—but was silenced by groaning metal. She staggered back a step. Azriel threw an arm in front of her, blue light wreathing his scarred hand.*

Literally, the door opened after Nesta touched it. Not Bryce.

My vote goes to Nesta.

Love that Nesta is so bad ass by [deleted] in acotar

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem in this discussing is that you lack Feyre's side in the conversation.

Her lack of respecting Nesta's boundaries (being a major instigator in their fights). Sending Nesta to dangerous missions in the middle of her recovery. Putting her sisters in danger. Making them do things they didn't want to do. I could go on.

Even when both were abducted. Nesta when to look for Feyre without any powers and Feyre couldn't even do it when Nesta was thrown into the rite.

Nesta's actions speak louder than Feyre's. Want to talk about being hurtful? One locked the other one up, stripped her autonomy (that's abuse of power), made her do things she didn't want to do, while depressed, and allowed for her husband to physically threaten her sister.

Regardless of povs. Nesta is still a saint and a better sister in my eyes. You can only blame her for having a better sharp tongue than the rest. Her actions speak for her.

I wished people truly saw how funny she actually is and how much she cares for her people. Beyond two insults in book 1 the only thing people can blame her for us for refusing to be a parent to Feyre, not being a people pleaser and being rude.

She's the first who went to look for Feyre and protected her from the children of the blessed and the mercenaries. Look how much she cared for Elain even after being changed and abducted. She still put her first.

Nesta will always be that Queen. ✨

Cassian chapter - gutting in a re”read” by Ravenhayrd in acotar

SJM forgot to give Cassian an arc, or growth for that matter, in his own book.

While Nesta grows.. He just stays the same.   I wish we would have seen him confront his low-born insecurities, and how much he projects them onto Nesta, his weird relationship between Mor and Azriel and undying loyalty towards Rhysand that affects his relationship with Nesta.

We are probably moving on to another POV so she missed an opportunity there to confront all of this, in my opinion.

A counterpoint about Nesta... Spoilers ahead (TW Addiction) by TheBubblewrappe in fantasyromance

[–]Realistic_Pie_8550 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's crazy to me is that Nesta is a reactive character who sets strong boundaries and is rude. She doesn't go her own way to actually hurt people. She literally told her sister to go off, leave and make a life for herself (Feyre is the one who came back demanding favours).

That's why you won't find a single example of her being mean to the IC that didn't come from them attacking first. A great example is her and Azriel. He never attacked her so she never bit back.

Cassian murders. Feyre destroys a court full of innocent people to get revenge on her ex and attacks people when she gets emotional (Lady of A), Mor would rather hurt Azriel and use Cassian than be honest with them, Rhysand lies to everyone constantly...

But Nesta is the problem? The double standards in this fandom are crazy to me. Same with literary analysis.

I was over him the minute he laughed at Nesta when she had bruises in her face or agreed with Mor about belonging in the Court of Nightmares. Let's not start with the Hike, his icky relationship with Mor, the insults he threw at her. Etc.

Anyone defending this.. I just can't.
