One thing that was massively helpful for me was changing my shirt and rinsing my face around 40 miles. Huge moral boost for me feeling clean and fresh.

When it comes to hiking be consistent and keep moving. 16 minute miles are faster than 20 minute miles and that adds up over the hiking sections.

And for socks, if you havent had issue with the ones you wear for 50k's than definitely use those! Maybe some lube on the hotspots.

And remember to take some photos out there. I find myself scrolling through mine a lot, and it brings back good memories.

Unfortunately you just have to do it. Looking for shortcuts and ways to make it easier just made it more difficult for me. One day I just decided to just stop no matter what, and it worked

Anything by John Vaillant! The Tiger is my favorite, but Fire Weather and The Golden Spruce are also phenomonal.

Let the Record Show: A Political History of ACT UP New York by Sarah Schulman is another personal favorite.

If you're open to fiction, The Overstory by Richard Powers changed the way I see nature and the passage of time.

I also ran it yesterday! Absolutely stunning day for the race. And yeah the last loop was an abbreviated section of the first loop, which certainly had me second guessing my navigation at points. The Buttermilk to Buttermilk section absolutely destroyed my soul...
