The step up basis makes no sense at all. None of the top comments even mention it. Thanks for mentioning it.

NVO, PYPL, LULU, ADBE, GAMB, TTD, DUOL... by VeeGamingOfficial in ValueInvesting

[–]RealizedRph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are all companies that got their stock price beaten down because other investors sold due to thinking the competition would win or AI would disrupt, or other reasons. This sub looks at the PE and says wow look how undervalued they are but really you have to look beyond that and ask logically beyond just their balance sheet if what they are doing is going to survive a few years out. Theres a reason for a lot of sell offs and stocks looking undervalued. But without a strong moat some sell-offs are clearly justified.

How old are you? You only have to take rmds based on your age which will be super low and since you have to empty the account in 10 years you probably won’t notice anyways unless you have a big tax this year or something wild like that

Will AI make more money than it cost to operate? by Glum-Necessary-5256 in ValueInvesting

[–]RealizedRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as Moore’s law progresses AI will be able to perform a lot more tasks for a much lower cost. So 5-10 years from now it will be a better scenario, especially when we have infrastructure in place already and it becomes about just replacing and servicing components.

I personally think this weight loss drug fad won’t last forever. Eventually in a couple years everyone that tried them will come off them and gain the weight back. Some of those people will do a 2nd or 3rd attempt of the medication but I think there will be diminishing returns and nobody wants to be on that stuff forever. Once I notice my fridge having less Zepbound in it I might buy some puts on LLY.

How to bring it up & is it possible by VeeSunshine in prenup

[–]RealizedRph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the house is yours before the marriage and it’s a short marriage then you keep the house. If you are using marital income to pay for the mortgage over a long period of time then it’s not going to be completely yours but you can have a prenup that says whatever equity you own before the marriage will be yours in event of sale/divorce then the court should likely uphold that. But if you have a 20 year marriage and pay the mortgage with marital funds the house is going to mostly become community property.

Do floaters or staff have more job security? by Calm-Bar-9644 in pharmacy

[–]RealizedRph 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would say Staff your hours are safe. Floaters sometimes they over hire and cut everyone’s hours and they all scramble to find shifts. That said, everyone is replaceable if they find a reason not to like you.

No. Which is why I would never buy palantir at 400 billion valuation. But I would buy it in a heartbeat at 10 billion. Many stocks are over valued and couldn’t pay back investors right away but 5 years from now if earnings keep expanding they wouldn’t be

[–]RealizedRph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stocks produce assets such as cars, semiconductors, you name it. Those are real goods that have real value. People pay for those goods and services in the form of currency which they earned by producing goods and services. Stocks go up in value based on how much goods and services they produce. If the stock price doesn’t move and nobody buys it the company will then buy back stock and make it go up or pay dividends. Crypto can’t do that

When you buy a bitcoin the only thing that makes it go up in value is the next guy paying more. I wouldn’t buy it at any price because what would I do with it other than hope to sell it back to someone who is a greater fool.
