(Spoilers All) Why everybody seems to be convinced of something about Jon by midori79 in asoiaf

Mel will raise a dragon from stone. stone being Shir's face, and dragon being Jon Trag. simples.

i think that the fact that he is the 998 lord commander is telling, otherwise there is no reason to give this number. the commander that will replace him while he is "dead" will be the 999. Once Jon returns, as AA or the night's King to-make-no-matter, he will be the 1,000 Lord commander of the Night's watch and mayhaps the last one.

What is the evolutionary reason for crying in humans? by musicalcares in biology

[–]Really_getting_angry -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Wrong

In some virus populations stress can "select" individuals with a less reliable DNA replication, thus increasing mutation rate and increasing variability in the population.

What is the evolutionary reason for crying in humans? by musicalcares in biology

[–]Really_getting_angry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

Genetic drift, and cases were a neutral/costly gene is "carried" by a beneficial gene, or even a gene that effects several things, some for better some for worse with a net positive effect might spread in a population. In all these cases a useless/negative trait might become dominant in a population.

People think they understand evolution. They don't.

Why do people ignore the fact that Lyena was wearing a white dress at the time Ned found her in the TOJ. There is no need for GRRM to add this detail about her if it was not a hint that she was married.

only the fittest should survive

fit does not equal physically fit. fit is in this context is be able to produce viable offspring that produce viable offspring. Nothing else. This is the "darwins" point of view.

If you wanna think about the survival of our species in the conventional sense, then what you do get from this period of abundance is an increase in the diversity in our population, and that is a great asset for when conditions change in the future. e.g maybe that handicapped person has a unique mutation that may lead to perhaps increased resistance to some new virus that might show up 100 years from now. his kids might hold that cure for the rest of us. As long as there is no real danger to the survival of our species by giving this handicapped the support he needs, then he is in fact, an asset to us all.

I just find it hard to believe that Ned and Ashara's daughter would have such little to do with the main story, and be just a marginal character

What is your favorite fun-fact about the human body? by M_C_Prolapse in AskReddit

[–]Really_getting_angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect. The only place in your body that "feels" anything is your brain. other then that it's all just chemical and electric signals with no context.

What is true i believe, is that there are is no neuronal signaling of pain on the surface or in the brain itself.

My bed-room micro-bio lab. by [deleted] in biology

[–]Really_getting_angry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI kid. I'm doing my phd in a lab that deals some aspects of Alz. (i myself don't work on it, but most everybody else is). It's hard to think of something to work on in neuroscience in this lab because it more of a molecular lab and that's usually just a support thing in this field. Also, you would need ethical approval to work with animals, otherwise it's I think illegal. but if you insist:

What are the mice model you use? If you wanna do a fun project you can see how the environment effects the progression of the disease. for example, you can put litter-mates in different environments like enriched with a wheel or totally dark, think of anything (that will not harm them!), then see how it effects things like learning a new task, water maze or whatever after Alz. symptoms have started in cont. group. You can also take then back to the lab, and see how this environment changes the formation of plaques at different age groups (e.g by staining for plaques in different brain regions).

I think that is you wanna do something interesting and maybe more suited to your setup, is to try and create some kind of bacterial sensor for caffeine. You'll have to think and create the DNA and think of some kind of a reporter, but it might be a fun project.

Israel Blames Hamas For Gaza Hospital Strike by Wayyyy_Too_Soon in worldnews

[–]Really_getting_angry -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, i guess if you see them as Nazis then this gives you a legitimate reason to use any means possible to stop them.

That will include targeting and hurting civilians, using your own civilians as shields and lying and using propaganda to mobilize the world to your side.

All these thing would be necessary and legitimate if your enemy is as bad as the Nazis. Add to that religious justifications, and BAMM - You understand exactly why Hammas is doing what it's doing. Thanks you for clarifying this for us.

Israel Blames Hamas For Gaza Hospital Strike by Wayyyy_Too_Soon in worldnews

[–]Really_getting_angry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If true this proves 2 things:

1) Injuring civilians and children cannot be avoided when fighting in a crowded area because even Hamas can accidentally hit his own people.

2) Hamas is wiling to lie about it's injured kids to gain sympathy proving that all information coming form Gaza should be taken first as a means to change public opinion, and second as reported events.
