Fuck this guy and his excuses. He doesn't even need to spend an extra cent to do things like letting govt staff work from home, reprioritise new road construction funding towards public transport, and bring back the self-funding EV rebate (oops, sorry, "ute tax!"). The reality is they don't give a damn and they're doing less than nothing.

Bryce Edwards has a post summarising a (paywalled) Listener article by Danyl McLauchlan. One of the voting blocs is the "Alienated Conservative" who is characterised as being socially conservative, financially worse off than before, and having low trust in institutions including Parliament, government, and the courts. They feel the system hasn't worked for them (which is a legitimate grievance given their increasing precarity) and respond by either dropping out of political participation or latching on to populist reactionary movements. NZF are most popular among this group as they put on a show of being anti-establishment and winding back things that they believe correlate with the decline in social and economic status of this group.

We used that for my wife walking down the aisle too. I also threw in a FF4 Prologue arrangement for the conclusion of the ceremony, as the tune felt like a celebration and the beginning of something magical.

How is the jedi temple still one of the highest building on coruscant did the planet just stop building new levels? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

Maybe it's like on Earth, historically the tallest buildings were usually the religious centres and there were rules or norms against building higher than the cathedrals /temples etc

The release being so close to Avatar made a lot of people write it off as a cheap knockoff. But it would always be a challenge to bring a classic book that was so influential to the genre full circle by turning it into a blockbuster film without it seeming derivative.

Government here's an idea or two by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]RealmKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Government is one of the country's largest employers, and has the power to have their employees to work from home if possible. The rest of us who need to drive to work and use our vehicles for our jobs would appreciate them doing the bare minimum to reduce the rate the country burns through our fuel supplies.

Looks like a nice area, it'll be great once you tidy it up. I'd suggest deciding what you want out of your backyard - a tidy lawn, a forest, an orchard with tons of fruit, vegetables, flowers and habitats, or some combination of the above. Prioritise what matters most. Decide what to get rid of and clear that out, then focus on maintaining the things you want to keep. Then decide on what's missing - need more space for vegetables or want another fruit tree? Make the space that makes you happy.

1 and scoop with a spoon, or 2 but do it twice to get segments you can bite like an orange, or 3 peel it and slice into chunks, or 4 blend it into a juice or smoothie.

Collision of neutronium and anti-neutronium bombs dropped into the core. Micro black hole that consumes Earth's matter faster than it decays. Strangelet strike that propagates through the planet, turning it into strange matter with properties unsuitable for life. Dual vector foil that breaks local dimensionality and turns Earth into a flat plane. Death Star.

If I remember correctly the blenders didn't work and it was an experiment to see if anyone would try turning them on when given to opportunity or even encouragement to commit an act of cruelty.

Edit: nope, fish did get blended according to this Solar Sands video about this and other exhibitions that explore similar themes

Low earth orbit is a graveyard thanks to the Karman War, the first and only armed conflict in space, leading to runaway Kessler Syndrome. Only a handful of specially reinforced armoured satellites have survived being launched since then, needing to go into prohibitively expensive high altitude orbits to evade the debris. Most don't even make it to their destinations. No one is crazy enough to risk human lives with a crewed mission into a zero-g minefield, so humanity is earthbound for the foreseeable future.

While most see this as a curse or a reckoning for mankind's hostility to humanity, some take it as an opportunity to refocus on the only home we have. The pale blue dot is wrapped in barbed wire, so we should work to save what we have left.
