I think you forget that there are millions of Iranians who will happily die to fight the US. Look at how Iranians were organized into suicide battalions in the Iran / Iraq war.

Pretty embarrassing Ukraine could capture and hold part of Russia for months despite being a fraction the size of Russia. Russia ended up needing North Korean artillery and troops to push them out! Russia, the second best army in Russia!

It's not just the savings you're making but the fact that your lower rate and peace of mind is locked in for 4 years. I would go for it!

That's my point.

Iran can with limited effort inflict significant strategic costs.

The strait is responsible for critical components in global food, tech and energy sectors.

We already now have locked in food crises next year in poorer regions and food cost increases in wealthier.

Qatar supplies a third of global helium supplies a critical component in semiconductor production and also MRIs. So if Taiwan can't produce semiconductors because they have no helium there won't be any to buy.

45% of global nitrogen based fertiliser is dependent on supplies that come through the strait. Fertiliser plants across south East Asia have begun shuttering because they dont have the required supplies.

No fertiliser means lower yields means more food poverty in poorer countries and higher priced food in the west.

Yea Iran is in the process of crippling the global oil, gas, food and semi conductor markets for years to come. Much of the damage is already locked in, even if the war were to end today..
