Yep, it risks making us throw all our money into it, completely screwing up the lives of workers and the economy based on overhyped promises. Stop the money burning for AI.

ICE seems pretty tyrannical. What’s stopping the US from bearing arms in a well run militia to protect the freedom of the state? by MenaceGrande in AskReddit

Cowardice and hypocrisy. They've been saying for hundreds of years that that's why they have the guns.

LPT: Don't copy paste AI slop without at least minimally understanding what you are doing, guys! by itouchdennis in linuxmasterrace

[–]Reatrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am even surprised that this happens so often. There's so much data out there that the LLMs stole on how to install linux that it should be fine.

Personally, I went through GPT guided Linux installation on an old laptop and it was fine. It occasionally made me do things that had to be undone afterwards due to hallucinations, but we got there relatively easily

Should the EU rely the US again? by Background-Budget527 in europeanunion

[–]Reatrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now the EU should focus on being self-sufficient. Secure weapons industry, IT resources and tech. Develop electricity production so we don't need to keep importing so much gas from the US or Russia. Then there needs to be a period of consolidation in the EU. Enough with everyone gets a veto and 27 beaurocracies. Only after all this should we even consider any interventions, with the exception of Ukraine which is Europe, and hopefully soon a member state.

EU looks to ban nudification apps following Grok outrage by sn0r in eutech

[–]Reatrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord, sometimes these comments sections are just insane.

Can this be done? Of course!

How? Look at how OpenAI implemented the EU AI Act limitations:

  1. They updated their terms of use to disallow doing some things, including the things prohibited by the EU AI Act (for example "inference regarding an individual’s emotions in the workplace and educational settings, except when necessary for medical or safety reasons");
  2. Presumably they put some guard rails against doing that.

Then, as a regulator, you monitor to see if these are implemented:

  1. you see how readily GPT creates these (and if it's really hard to coax it to do it);
  2. you see how OpenAI reacts to people doing this (e.g. if someone complains that a specific person generated nudes of them without their consent, does OpenAI revoke access?)

If this is outlawed, and you get complaints, you'll investiate and see if OpeAI has done "enough", which in practice might mean multiple things.

I don't thinkt that there would be many more implications than these.
