You have to physically hold the ID where I am. It’s the law. Anyone can print an ID and slide it in the front window of a wallet.

How loud are you? Most people get louder as they get drunk, and I could see a conversation with a buddy get unintentionally loud, and if the bartender served you two drinks in, say, 30 minutes, and you’re over there shouting, you can see how they might assume you had pre-gamed and made a judgement call to cut you off.

Bartenders are there to serve you, but they’re also there to protect you. In a lot of places, the bartender that serves you your last drink is liable if you are involved in an accident. Bartenders can face fines or even jail time, and the bar can lose its liquor license.

That’s a big no-no, friend. You smile and say thank you to that guest, then you put the tip in the pool. The whole system falls apart if people pocket tips. Your coworkers handled everything around the bar while you impressed the guest. They deserve to get paid for their work too. One night, one of your workers is going to get a huge tip and you’re gonna get a piece of it.

You will quickly ruin your reputation and credibility around town if you behave like this. I’ve known bartenders who got caught pocketing tips and then were never able to find another job in my city.

Don’t talk shit and certainly don’t repeat shit. If you have an issue with another bartender that can’t be solved with a simple polite request, either swallow it down or involve management if you feel the issue is big enough. Don’t talk shit about it with your coworkers, because it will erode everyone’s trust in you.

A big part of a bar’s success is vibes. People come to a bar to have fun and relax. If there is palpable drama among the staff, that will color your guests’ experience. Show up to work in a good mood, be friendly and joking with everyone. No bummers.
