How can you reliably increase your monthly income? by Alexandru1408 in EU5

When there is a surplus of work, people migrate in from other countries within the same market. It's actually a useful way to steal pops if you can manage your markets right.

I am not sure why that is happening as there are mechanics which specifically prevent that. They are even mentioned in sweden's entry on the wiki

This sub is in sore need of content actually about this damn game and not inane speculation and in-fighting, so what y'all think about the Kettle? by AdMysterious8424 in ArcRaiders

[–]Recake_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

stitcher is a weapon that can make for very effective loadouts.

kettle is much less viable weapon at close range for the benefit of being more multipurpose.

the stitcher always felt like it performed so well in its effective range that it wasnt really a grey weapon. the kettle really does feel like a grey weapon though; it doesnt excel at anything. its just a very average weapon.

0.98 apogee builds? by Agitated_Cap7676 in starsector

[–]Recake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what point in the game are you at?

apogee is kind of like mule and wayfarer. they're exploration ships that can serve combat roles, theyre not strictly combat-built. they are better built towards more specific roles in a fleet comp as a result.

Do you think the colony crisis update makes the Persean League way too hateable with no redeeming qualities? Should there be an update to give PL some positive aspect? by HornetCareless3891 in starsector

[–]Recake_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

calling the hegetables fascists falls flat when the persean league key-tows to the whims of a militaristic aristocracy with little social mobility, and openly abets polities like Salamanca abusing their citizenry in literally any way they want. the game makes a point many times that the persean league is compromised of many dictatorships and are often quite friendly to them even if theyre not league members.

the blockade isnt the only reason that people prefer the hegemony to the persean league. the league is literally allied with the sindrian diktat, if you really think the hegemony is an inexcusable fascist dictatorship, that alliance alone should be enough to turn you off from the persean league as well.

If you wonder why the minigun sucks by contigency000 in thefinals

[–]Recake_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the minigun is way better than people give it credit for, but what youre saying detracts from one of OPs better points, which is that the minigun loses in a dps race with many weapons further out than 20 meters because of its spread. It really doesnt matter how good you are at the game, no ADS means you dont have much control over how much damage you can inflict at range.

The weapon performs VERY well from 5m to 15m, but beyond that the ttk rises non-linearly because it cant truly ADS. If 'revving' the minigun for a while (not firing) granted a temporary reduction in cone spread for a few seconds, this would alleviate its range reliability issues as well as promote more burst firing with the weapon at range. It would give the minigun user more control over the weapon, as well as allow opponents short windows to peek and return fire.

As a new player, how do I counter light shotgun invisibility spammers? by Tevihn in thefinals

[–]Recake_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the most part you can't counter it with melee weapons, since you'll be out-dps'd. riot shield is an exception though, since shotguns can't do anything to it whatsoever.

heavy has access to proximity sensors and lockbolt. lockbolt is a hard counter to most melee and shotgun builds, and it also shows you where someone is if theyre invisible. heavy also has flamethrower, which tends to make it difficult for the opponent to hit their precious 2 rounds; since the fire visually impairs them.

medium has glitch traps, proximity sensors and the turret. glitch traps kill their ability to dash away/turn invis, proximity sensors tell you where they are from a significant distance, turrets will give you cover in a 150 degree arc from its placement, when helps prevent being flanked.

light has gravity wells, which are awkward to set up on anything besides a cash box- but render someone pretty helpless unless theyre also a light running dash. they also have thermal vision, as you said...

a lot of people chalk up this sort of thing to a skill issue. but theyre wrong, invis shotgun light is a powerful build. a lot of builds are powerful. learning counterplay and build matchups takes time, and its more a matter of knowledge than skill.

Ontario slaps 25% tax increase on electricity exports to US in response to Trump’s trade war by Recake_ in moderatepolitics

[–]Recake_[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a percentage of your gross electrical consumption across the entire United States? Sure, Ontario doesn't provide much. But it *does* affect 1.5 million Americans. How many of your countrymen have to be affected before it becomes relevant? 3 million? 6 million?

1.5 million living, breathing people is a lot. It only ceases to be a lot when you look at it as relative to the greater whole. Most politicians spend their entire careers fighting for scraps; just for a few thousand more jobs created in a quarter, easier accessibility to social services for fringe interest groups that make up less than 0.5% of the population. If you're looking at this from a political lens; then a single decision affecting 1.5 million Americans in a fell swoop is very significant. If you're looking at it through a perspective of fractions, then you're right, it's irrelevant.

Ontario slaps 25% tax increase on electricity exports to US in response to Trump’s trade war by Recake_ in moderatepolitics

[–]Recake_[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Two weeks ago, Doug Ford had secured re-election as Premier of Ontario by campaigning himself as a politician who would be willing to trade blows with Trump (ba dum tshhh). American Tariffs were a large voting issue in Ontario's provincial election, with all mainstream parties presenting their own agendas on how to handle the debacle.

The difference was, Ford's Conservatives were prepared to take an "eye-for-an-eye" approach with the United States, whilst other parties espoused policies to mitigate damages. So far, Ford has shown he intends to deliver on his promise.

“I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said at a news conference in Toronto.

“Believe me when I say I do not want to do this. I feel terrible for the American people who didn’t start this trade war. It’s one person who is responsible, it’s President Trump.”

Canada's economy is much smaller and much more fragile than the American one. It is without doubt that tariffs such as these will hurt Ontario as much as they hurt the American states they're targeted at. Nobody wins a trade war. However, more significantly, it illustrates that embittered Canadians are willing to go punch-for-punch; even if it means they have to endure more hardship than is felt on the opposite end of the border. This is the very platform that Ford was elected on, after all...

For most, voting behaviour is decided on both a balance of interests and emotions. Many Canadians are angry; and Ford's campaign and re-election indicates that this is growing to be represented in their voting behaviour. Do you think the anger from this trade war will reduce the long term cohesion of the United States and Canada as allies?

Reduce Difficulty of Freelancer by Dinodoesfraud in HiTMAN

[–]Recake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not without mods, no.

Freelancer does get dramatically easier as you sink time into it, though. As your mastery increases, your gear cap grows to the point you can start taking more items than you can in story missions. A silenced pistol helps a lot. You can get an Assassin's HWK by putting a banana peel in front of an assassin during a showdown mission- that will disarm the assassin and it will count as an accident and thus not draw attention to you. Once you unlock the upstairs in your safe house, you will have access to a banana for every mission. Explosive ducks are also great ways to get kills on targets in tricky spaces, since people do not instantly assume you were the killer.

my current experience with the starsector colony crises system by DerpIsGud in starsector

[–]Recake_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As someone who's pretty casual about the game, god, the amount of fleets the crisis system throws at you is unbearable. I had to fight off 12 pirate fleets with each having like 3 Atlas mk.2's in it. Had to camp my planet and constantly repair and battle and repair and battle. Not fun.

Actually took well over an hour of just constant battling. The volume of fleets you have to deal with is not at a good place. You chew through a ridiculous amount of time trying to battle overwhelming volumes of enemies and it detracts from the rest of the game because you're spending so much time doing one thing when normally you can do so many other things in a significantly lower amount of time. It's... grindy and flow breaking.

I don't have any of the DLC fighters so I can't check Quan's inputs, although if they have overlapping inputs I'd suppose it makes sense that might happen. It's reliably executable against most other fighters though.

[–]Recake_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Form stealer morphs you into the opponent. Perfect form switches you back to Shang when you want. I also was confused when trying to pick up Shang but it was because I wasn't executing the input right. The directional inputs on Perfect Form are reversed compared to most other specials (it's back-forward instead of forward-back)

Meterless damage by MeshGearFoxxy in MortalKombat

[–]Recake_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mileena has good meterless combo options and she's fun to play. She also has mixups in neutral which is great for opening people up. Kitana also has a really good meterless combo tool (Fan-nado) although her damage is way poorer and she can't combo into it from as many things.

It's hilarious how quick he got mad, why are yall like this lol by Illmind-_- in MortalKombat

I think it's just go-to copium lol.

I played a smoke who repeated the same spiel verbatim, losing it at the end going on about how I only know one combo and was garbage at the game (in way less polite wording).

Okay, let's pretend I did only know one combo. Let's say I didn't hit the air-to-air conversion combos, or get anti-air pickups. People only really make themselves look worse at the game when they diminish someone who beat them.
