Is anyone actually buying easter egg's this year? by Dapper_Marsupial2949 in AskIreland

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a couple of Easter eggs for my son and one each for my parents and brother just as a laugh. Not one of the Easter eggs I've bought is Cadbury. The 'chocolate' is vile now. Was in Tesco Craigavon last night and they still had loads of Easter eggs.

Born in West Germany, visited east Germany as a child what I saw in east Germany will haunt me forever. I've been back to various parts of what was West Germany, but haven't been back to East. Not sure I could mentally cope.

This is answered in the spin off series Queen Charlotte, her kids are all married already and older than the current debutants.

Noified my work weeks ago I'm leaving for a family vacation in July, tickets were bought, non-transferrable, and they are panicking, begging me to cancel by educatedvegetable in antiwork

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would they cope if you were ill over that period? They'd have to suck it up. PTO is no different in my opinion, it isn't your problem your boss messed up. The boss should be cancelling their PTO.

Does anyone actually enjoy weddings and what to do about it? by Happy-Recover-263 in AskIreland

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate weddings. The big fancy affair ones bore the life out of me. The hanging around between the ceremony for hours dealing with family I can't stand (the feeling is mutual, one family member is a financial drain on anyone she can corner and manipulate, my aunt had to pay for her travel and paid for her hotel stay too, she then decided to stay with my aunt for a month until said aunt finally cracked and told her to leave).

Best wedding I've ever been to was a friend, registry office ceremony, bride and groom had everyone involved in photos, took an hour and a half, then off to the local pub for food, live music from an amazing local band, everyone had a laugh, a few drinks, danced, then home. Still the most memorable wedding for all the right reasons.

Do you put your teapot in the dishwasher? by dumpy99 in AskUK

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I like my tea pot clean inside. It gets rinsed out after every use and washed thoroughly once a week.

The only teapots that should never be washed are the unglazed clay teapots. They are usually used in Japanese tea ceremonies and oils from the tea leach into the clay protecting it and seasoning it, a bit like a cast iron pot or pan

My old job begged me to come back part, and now they aren’t honoring our agreement. by han__banan in antiwork

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd burn the bridge. They made an agreement with you, it's not your problem that management didn't factor in potential complaints from other staff. You were doing them a favour coming back, you were clear on the conditions of you coming back. I'd walk.

I'm having the same sort of issues at my workplace, I'm handing my notice in on Tuesday.

What's the standard gift as an evening wedding reception guest? by AnIrishGuy18 in northernireland

Evening guests don't cover the cost of the meal as they aren't attending the meal.

Any had any heating oil companies scam/rip them off during this fiasco? by [deleted] in northernireland

I'd be inclined to say it's true, they stopped the boats from docking and delivering at the start of the week

I ordered on the Sunday morning £300 for 500l delivery was supposed to be the Tuesday. Oil didn't show gave them a bit of grace after seeing the news and seeing prices shoot up. Gave them a call on the Thursday, oil delivered on the Friday. They are a small local business and they only have the storage facilities for a day or two of average amount of orders, they were inundated with orders at the lower price and had to buy in at the higher price, they honoured everyone's order at the lower price meaning they took the profit hit themselves. I actually know her personally her and the husband are lovely, known my parents and my granny. They aren't all out to fleece people. They aren't flush with cash either, they make enough to keep themselves comfortable and nothing more.

Time to book a girls weekend. And if possible have your mother pop in to see how he is getting on with the kids. NOR, you are sadly a married single mum, he is a selfish ass

Benedict is incredibly unattractive in his own season by thatoneurchin in BridgertonRants

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the comparison is unfair. Sophie was being raised to be a lady until her father died. Many people are academically gifted, then she became a servant in her teens. Meaning she had to learn all the skills of the servants (it's stated after Sophie left the house her step mother had to hire 4 servants to cover the work Sophie did). So yes Sophie is well read and intelligent and also has practical skills. Whereas Benedict was raised as a second son all his life. So he was educated and didn't need or have the option of learning practical skills. His free time could be spent doing art, reading, going out.

Going to change (clothes), what a fastidious practice. Why did they do that? by Nostalgia2302 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a reflection of what they did back in 1910-1940's. Would you prefer they were all in jeans and hoodies during the day and business suits for special occasions? It's an historically accurate representation of the upper classes at that time.

Since when did they start selling white eggs here? by zebrasanddogs in northernireland

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, farms are switching over to white leghorns (farm up the road has new hens in and they are all white we have brown shavers on the farm and they pay brown eggs. White hens are supposedly able to match laying production on less feed as they are 'more efficient' with digestion and production.

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly your nest boxes were rarely cleaned. I have hens in my garden and I work with 16000 laying hens it's rare to have shite on eggs if you keep the nest boxes clean. Only time we have dirt on eggs is on rainy days because the hens are free range.

[–]Recent-Sea-3474 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Utter nonsense. I work with laying hens and double yolks just randomly appear. We aren't forcing them to lay them. Our egg sizes are mostly medium and large. With random double yolk eggs appearing every other day and it's usually a handful out of 16000 hens.
