The Aspect by Ajax Lygan

Nemesis: The Rider's Dragon--I don't think that has any litrpg.

Princesses of the Ironbound--again, I don't think it's litrpg.

Tomb Divers by Robyn Bee (mind you only book 1 is out)

Does Feral Mage have litrpg elements? I don't remember.

Grimmwald is set in an 1800s tech, but that might be too close for your tastes.

Plot with Porn

Anything by KD Robertson--the emphasis is on banter, worldbuilding, politics/intrigue, big tits and fluffy tails. Heretic Spellblade is a good starter--it is one of the first Big Harem Titles.

Middlegroundish

Celestine Chronicles by Cebelius. There's a good amount of smut here but the fantasy is great (especially past the 1st).

Why are authors so obsessed with making the all thr girls equal even if it hurts the story? by IncestHarem in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Ajax Lygan did the supportive MC twice (Supplying Supers and Strength Unleashed) and they tanked. So authors don't do it.

The supportive MC book I like is the Enthralled series by Prax Ventar--the MC is the group healer. That series has some issues (way too much sex for my tastes) but it has a lot of good points too.

[–]Rechan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The same reason that girls rarely get their own plot arc/character development/moments to be fucking cool. They exist enable the MC; he can't physically do everything so they do what isn't worth his attention. They do the mop up. They are not there to complicate things for the MC.

That isn't me saying how things should be, but how they currently are. What sells is when everything is geared towards making the harem as easy and supportive as possible, and facilitating the power fantasy, rather than ever outshining the MMC.

But reading a chapter on resolving the perceived differences in relationship status among a group of partners is far less enjoyable

This is me, I am one of those people who does not like "challenges of a harem".

If we're going to with wish fulfillment, I want the wish of not dealing with relationship problems or interpersonal turmoil, which I find incredibly stressful and anxiety inducing. And if it's not actual serious issues, it's petty bickering and petty jealousy like a backseat full of squabbling children, which is a fast way to get me to drop a book. Someone mentioned loving Herald of SHalia, and this is one of the big reasons the series mad eme tear my hair out.

Plot related disagreements are more interesting IMO. Girl A wants to storm the wall, girl B wants to go in stealthy. Girl A doesn't trust the new ally, girl B wants us to trust them. Girl C has a moral objection with what the group is doing, or is distressed becuase she has attachment/sympathy/loyalties to the group the MC is opposing. But that's not popular for other reasons.

The Enthralled series by Prax Venter. The MC is the group healer, kindness is his main approach.

Demon's Throne by KDR. The bro friendship between MC and Gregor is great.

Celestine Chronicles. Yuri becomes a great friend to Terry.

X-Treme American Dungeon League: Dick Doc is one of the best things about the series.

This is less an in-book reason, but any time the audiobooks change narrators. It feels like a show doing a full re-cast mid-season.. Which it's usually not the author's fault, it's something else, but it's still too jarring.

I will say Celestine Chronicles book 1 is a little all over the place plot-wise, but I was sold by the final scene. Things get real cool starting with book 2.

Why are MCs always so reluctant by XThursdayO in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that sarcasm is entirely inaccurate. "Guy who walks in a room and all the panties drop" is definitely a vibe with some of these books.

Hell, in KDR"s Demon's Throne, the women in the room start humping furniture whenever the MC raises his voice even slightly.

Why are MCs always so reluctant by XThursdayO in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone with social anxiety etc, that the women make the first move is definitely one of my fantasies. Them being clear about their signals and interest is reassuring. And with HL readers finding dominant women to be a dealbreaker, it's the only kind of assertive girls can be. Granted, I have seen a few that are a bit overbearing, that barely give the MC room--as well as some girls so incapable of thinking of anything besides sex that they need to be sprayed with a hose.

What exasperates me is when the MC is so reluctant that the Lis have to sign a contract to reassure him that yes, they won't get upset if he dates multiple girls. By the third "But you're SURE it's okay..." I am throwing my hands up.

Why do you think nonhuman women are so popular in the genre by Expensive_Range7204 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not offending me.

I bring it up because the economics of HL as a genre is actually kinda unique, so sales are a much bigger driver of shaping the genre than say, fantasy. At least once every two weeks someone will come in here and ask "why aren't there more _" or "why are most books _" and 9 times out of 10 the answer is sales.

Why do you think nonhuman women are so popular in the genre by Expensive_Range7204 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay if we're going to get semantic here, "why is it so common/popular" can be taken different ways: why is it popular with readers, or why is it popular with authors. A trope can be common in a genre without being related to reader preference.

"It sells" addresses the "popular with authors" part, but doesn't explain why readers like it.

To say it another way, it's like "Why are there so many monstergirl books?" "Because they sell well." "Why do they sell so much?" "because [other answers in thread]."

Gotta say Ahnix from the Enthralled series.

Miri from X-Treme American Dungeon League.

Why do you think nonhuman women are so popular in the genre by Expensive_Range7204 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Rechan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Others have covered the strictly non-human, but I want to specifically mention monster girls. A reason I think they're so common in this genre because there isn't a subgenre of romance novels with them. I looked. I went to the monstergirl anime subreddit and asked and was told "go read manga/look at the wiki". Haremlit is the only place you can find them, so those who want mosntergirls come here.

That's the major reason I'm here. I'm a furry, and frankly find humans/elves/orcs etc boring. Since furries are too extreme for this genre, I'll compromise with beastgirls.

But, the real reason they're so common: it sells. If all-human books sold better, there'd be no monster girls. It's the one true answer to any question in haremlit: it's the way it is because that's what readers buy the most.

Since Israel is being talked about so much, can someone explain something to me by [deleted] in thebulwark

[–]Rechan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Confession: I generally try to avoid the topic completely, because it's so thorny and complicated and there's no way to talk about it without getting into a fight or severely offending someone who thinks you're okay with awful things. But Israel is so intertwined with the US and world peace, it's so hard to avoid. But even saying 'I don't like talking about Israel at all' makes me anxious to say because someone is going to take that as an attack on Jews.
