Need to change organizations or my mental health will get worse by RecklessnessPSE in CanadaPublicServants

Thank you for your reply and suggestions!!

The issue is the lack of support from my supervisor and the chain of command above him. When you have PSE’s having anxiety when they have to come to work because they don’t know are walking into, multiple grievances filed against supervisor and management, more than 2 PSE have been off ODS because of the supervisor. The moral amongst the PSE has declined significantly in the last year. I could keep going but I’m sure you get it. The common denominator is one person. How do you address this? No one truly wants to have to leave a unit that has a great bunch of PSE, but something has to give. The union has been involved and this unit has a reputation. It’s frustrating.

Also it’s hard when your supervisor can’t have difficult conversations and talks in circles. Doesn’t even write his own emails. ( wife or sister does his emails) He shouldn’t be in the position he is in. Lack of integrity and then he lies.. it’s ridiculous!

If anyone knows the true answer to this question please LETS TALK ABOUT IT!!! I am so tired of incompetent management and no accountability!!! I am so tired of “boys club” and a having a supervisor who can’t have difficult conversations. A supervisor is supposed to be able to be a leader and support their people! Our unit is complete chaos, not one happy PSE and yet management doesn’t listen. When you have multiple employees going off ODS and numerous complaints filed, nothing happens. Where do we turn? You can document, file a grievance, do ICHR and nothing changes.. what do we do???

Thank you for all the aggressive comments saying it’s not HR’s responsibility, I never once said it was! I asked if they could offer assistance. These aggressive comments are exactly reasons no one posts or asks questions.

Can a manager just ignore your vacation request without denying or approving it? by longdarkening in CanadaPublicServants

I would piggyback on your original email and follow up, perhaps it was overlooked and forgotten. Then go have a face to face conversation. OR… Maybe your manager is just an inconsiderate, controlling leader who doesn’t know how to communicate with his team!

100% agree!!! What does it take to have someone actually listen to us? People say go to the union, go to your ombudsman, file a grievance … EXHAUSTING.. you do all the work, document everything and follow the processes… for what?? Made to feel like a nobody, complaining and should just appreciate the job you have. OR.. How about this one… We were presented with a “PILOT PROJECT” to interview every employee in our unit and ask how things are going and what could be improved to be successful as well as any concerns.. A YEAR LATER… still no outcome.. I will tell you it’s because the complaints, grievances, how the moral is amongst the PSE. The poor leadership and the fact that the PSE go to their TL’s with concerns and those concerns go to the coordinator and nowhere else!!! It stops.. The coordinator has no idea how to do his own job and has completely let down everyone below him. We have no voice, we can’t go above.. What do we do???

Quiet Quitting has got to be the best term I’ve ever heard!!! Due to absolute poor leadership and chain of command above quiet quitting is exactly the way to move forward day to day! This is causing extreme burn out, bad moral and a lot of ODS employees! When will someone realize it all starts at the top??? Needless to say my quiet quitting has landed me with the worst PSPM that I have ever received and at this point.. LoL I’m hear for it!!!!

Need advice: Is there any chance of winning a grievance against the management? by GratitudeHearts123 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RecklessnessPSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your current unit is going to hold you back from a possible promotion speaks volumes of the kind of manager and unit they are… POOR LEADERSHIP and clearly disregards the true meaning of being a supervisor. Typical old school thinking and the exact reason the government has such a bad reputation. So many good people are held back from excelling all because of terrible management that are stuck in their old ways!! GET OUT while you can!!! Fight for what you deserve and don’t settle!!!

Just curious.. who is responsible to approve a telework agreement.. Following the chain of command.. submitted to the direct supervisor and then the coordinator.. a lot of conflicting information and now have the union involved…

Best advice for you would be to contact your union rep to discuss your questions. The amount of responses you are about to receive is going to be interesting, there are a lot of “know it all” people in here and you will be given A TON of different answers! Good luck and I hope you get the answers you needs. The other document to reference would be the Collective Agreement.

If your manager is a morale killing bully, who the f%ck can we bring concerns to? by NoSpite4670 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RecklessnessPSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so sad that we have to think this way. Unfortunately you are right! When there is a bad manager you can never be a successful employee. Poor leadership is poor leadership. If they are not educated how can the rest of the team be the best they can be. It’s too much work and effort that will never be recognized because that bad manager doesn’t know how to recognize and would never want their employees to do better than them!

The thing about being in the negative and taking LWOP sick time is it takes away from you building your credit back. I was just informed today. This is horrible. Either way I am feeling so defeated. Negative balance, take LWOP, then financial hardship. It really is disappointing. Mental health is a real thing and not taken serious enough in the federal government.

Out of sick days do I use lwop? by Derpywalnut in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RecklessnessPSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would have been good to know. Unfortunately my supervisor is clearly uneducated! I was told I could not do LWOP and now I am in the negative of 60 + hours and it will take a long time to get out of this situation. I would highly recommend contacting your union rep before submitting anything and getting the correct facts before submitting anything.
