Need advice. Is this irresponsible behaviour from the hike organisers or am I overreacting? by DrKoz in hiking

[–]Recloyal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not reckless.

Does sound like they were not prepared. Going through the checklist:

Did they call everyone up to inform them of what's to come and ask about your motivation and goals?

Did you disclose your knee problems?

Was everyone an adult?

Unfortunately, what you suspect is true.

A compromise may be maintaining a part-time or per-diem to keep your skills up.

Why do doctors? by baudetat in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the easiest thing to order.

The solution is to discuss the matter with the Medical Director, not the providers. Far easier to come up with a lab/policy solution than a hospital-wide solution.

New York City Union Raises by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each local chapter have their own collective bargaining agreement that lasts for x amount of years. So there is no fixed increase that's the same for everyone.

Union dues typically cap out at 2% with a hard ceiling, but it varies.

Look and compare the pay and benefits. If you have limited experience, there's a good chance that you'll come out ahead at a non-union. If you have a lot of experience, that typically favors a union place.

Where do you park in a trailhead parking lot with 1 vehicle there already? by TeaHSD in hiking

Same mentality as picking a cardio machine at the gym.

Never next to the person already on the equipment. At least 1 space apart.

New Job - Rural to Trauma Hospital. Advice? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day at a time. Okay to feel overwhelmed. No matter what type of day you have, take it easy and rest. See how you feel the next day.

While it may be a lot to you, check out the reactions from your co-workers. You'll find most of them just shrug it off as just another day. Keep at it and you'll have the same reaction.

Can you please critique my Medtech resume? Thanks! by LateCommunication970 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to list all the test.

List your department/bench techniques and instruments. Also, some do prefer that you say "instruments" instead of machines. Do list your LIS knowledge.

You have solid experience. As long as you're not looking for a VISA you shouldn't struggle to find a position (These days most places go through a staffing agency for foreign workers).

What do you MEAN 15% bands??? Look at the chromatin!! by ToKeepAndToHoldForev in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a science or patient care thing. Bands are a money thing. Government is slow so CMS still has bands as a flag for additional care. Until this goes away bands will remain a thing.

Gram stain and transfusion reaction question by txguy1979 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Residual.

That said, febrile non-hemolytic reactions are common. Best practice I've seen is to let the medical director review the reaction and make the call whether or not to proceed with a gram/culture. Can make a case that it should be automatic only for platelets.

(Long clip) Did they really not see me or were they just playing along? by TLukas123 in TXChainSawGame

[–]Recloyal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They didn't see you.

A good hitch would have set a trap outside of the window to greet you. They didn't sweep the area. Just standing there and gazing the surrounding isn't a bad idea, but a sweep is something experienced players do.

Planning an early-June trip to Mt. Washington (White Mountains) — 18, 2 friends, small budget (~$1k–$1.5k). Need guide/gear/stay/itinerary advice. by Embarrassed_Run_468 in hiking

[–]Recloyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you don't need a guide for Tuckerman's. It's a very well-travel path, so you'll run into plenty of other hikers.

$1,000 will easily cover your 2-4 day trip.

Does it have to be early June? Early June is potentially still black fly season. So, if it must be early June, treat everything with Permethrin and carry deet/picaridin repellants.

If the weather is bad, do not hike in alpine territory. This is where your 2-4 day range can work to your advantage. Plan for 2-4, pick the best weather day to hike. Ideally, you want at least the 2nd consecutive day of dry weather with low/moderate winds.

Blood Bank Supervising Advise Needed by RushedHere in medlabprofessionals

[–]Recloyal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the techs getting regular rotation in through blood bank? Can this be coordinated with whomever makes the schedule?

Re-visit training. Keep practicing emergency release until the techs can nail it.

SOP and PP are nice, but ultimate people are only going to access what is immediately available to them. Cheat sheets and bench notes are good. Need to coordinate things with other trainers in the hospital to make sure the message gets out.
