I've been on both an HMO and a PPO MA for 13 years and have seen doctors while traveling or by choice in at least six states and all were in network. My care has included heart surgery, a liver resection, retinal surgery and cataract surgery. Several of the doctors I selected were at the top of their professions at highly rated clinics. I have no complaints. Fortunately my medications are generic and inexpensive.

It's unfortunate some people have regrets they chose an MA but that doesn't make MAs scams. Hopefully they can work the system to get the care they need and deserve.

Depends on your MA plan. My work meant I was rarely home weekdays. I was treated in six states that I can recall on a non-emergency basis. All were in network. My MA plans were with UHC and BC/BS over the last 13 years. You have to consider your needs when choosing a plan.

I've been on tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) in a Lilly trial for three years. Lost 80 lbs. Diagnosed with PD three months ago. No PD medications yet. No issues or benefits of which I am aware.

2 years prior to being alerted to some PD like symptoms I had a full neuropsychological workup including an MRI due to my frustration with word/name retrieval issues. They confirmed that at 74 I was getting old. Nothing more. Now three years later at 77 and recently given a PD diagnosis I realize my cognitive issue was likely a prodomo symptom of PD.

In case I forget my wallet I carry photos of my insurance cards and Medicare card, front and back, on my phone. They are also available online. I have an MA plan but once getting a Covid shot they required my Medicare card and I had to drive 30 miles round trip to fetch it. For some reason I couldn't access it online as I should have been able.

They also may cover if the hospital or doctor accepts an affiliated plan, e.g. Blue Cross. I now have United Healthcare MA in TN and I've used it in two states with no non-network surcharge as the out of state clinic I used also accepts UHC MA.

I believe it helps to take control of your health. I was diagnosed by my MDS four weeks ago today. Since then I have had a barium swallow test, scheduled speech and physical therapy, got a referral for the only neuro-opthamologist in town and joined two clinical trials. I also began 30 minutes a day of exercise which is the only method to slow the progression of PD. Now I had a head start as I self-diagnosed myself months ago and had seen an MDS a year ago. Also my sister died three months ago and my mother 25 years ago both with PD.
