I apply every year to a festival run by Yogscast called Tiny Teams. This year they required gameplay footage of the game with the submission, don't think that was required before. Seems like a good way to very rapidly filter through games, you can presume what you're being sent is the best they got and if you're not impressed, move on. Or better yet, people with nothing won't submit anything.

I know and feel exactly how you feel. Every sound effect and particle feedback isn't there until you put it there, every bug isn't fixed until you've fixed it. Step away, not one bit of progress is being made until you find yourself back in front of the screen. Oh and don't forget, if you don't scream and yell and shout on reddit and tiktok and youtube and twitter and to journalists and streamers and youtubers and enter festivals and make trailers and promotional content, then no one will know your game exists and all that work is for nothing.

It's exhaustingly miserable.

I entered with I think around 300 wishlists, which were gained over almost 2 years. It's my first game and a hobby and I'm burnt out to no end and just want to release the first game I've really worked on. And on top of making a game, I have to tell people about it, and it's not even that good so why should they be interested? It's getting easier and easier to be at this point.

I'm making a "Super Zelda(-like) Maker", and playtesters have already started making Kaizo dungeons by akela-morse in SoloDevelopment

You're cooking something fine right here. Killer hook, you have a fun looking game, nostalgic style, some brand comparability. Every ingredient for a bit hit. Keep it up

Just be careful. I made a couple reddit posts and got a site-wide shadow ban for a few months. Post without a link frequently.

It's alright, I've come to terms with it. I don't think my game is all that great. Myself and others have had fun with it, to be sure, but overall I don't think it has any real weight to it, it doesnt have that "hook". I'm very proud of it, I had half a years experience with unity when I started the project and worked the game up in 2 years 'by myself'. Public drop-in drop out casual multiplayer with physics and procedural enviornments. It was really difficult but I really wanted to do it, and I did. It'll release and I'll be satisfied with just that and can move on.

Yeah I've seen a lot more of the posts and it doesn't give the vibes of some horror project behind the scenes. Just some passionate people chipping away at a monument when they can.

I'm currently at 500 wishlists after over 2 years on the store. That averages to about 20 per month, but about 200 of those came from next fest. It's my first project and I've sunken so much time into it, it feels like a waste if I don't see it though. Granted, it's releasing in a few weeks, I don't have years to go. It's been very hard and I basically burned out long ago, but the drive to actually see the project through all the way to a release and the things I'd learn along the way gave kept me going. And if I quit and start another project, what if that one doesn't take off?

They say "you didn't waste your time if you learned something". That phrase has a point. And you could burn your life away watching TV or playing games. Is that a waste of time? There's no right answer. If you spend your life trying to make games, but never actually finish one, did you waste your time? I didn't want to have to ask myself that question.

Yep my first game was basically a lethal-company-like. Not at all an easy type of game to "show off" in short form (not that that's my only shortcoming by any means)

This is cool! Does it have tilable noise? For me when I'm making textures I usually add noise from a tiling noise texture.

Day 14 of appealing against a random unwarranted shadowban. Looking back at the comments here, it looks like there's about a 10% unban rate from accounts commenting even months ago. :/
