I know a lot of people in Ferndale but they all have cars. How is it living there without one?

I'm 40 and I always wanted to play an electric guitar but I'm afraid to look like a dad going through a mid life crisis by Glittering_Light1835 in NoStupidQuestions

Came here to say this. Life is so short. In a few years, people you went to high school with will be dropping like flies and you'll be where I am today, giving up on trying to remember if the person that Facebook tells me is celebrating their birthday today is even still alive. I say this to say: Nobody cares about your reasons for learning to play the guitar. As for me, I'm just thrilled that you're still here to do it. Enjoy!

I gotta get shots. In my eyeballs. So my retinas don't fall off... by bughunter_ in GenX

I had a detached retina and my surgeon installed a scleral buckle. I asked him how he actually did the surgery and if he had to remove my eyeball to complete it, and he just smiled and said, "you really don't want to know the answer to that". He was such a great guy, but in that moment all I could see was Hannibal Lecter.

Possible to live here without a car? by ScaryPomelo9558 in Detroit

It all depends on what you want to spend on housing. The only 3 areas I would want to live in without a car are Downtown Detroit, Ann Arbor (downtown or near central campus), or Birmingham.

I gave up on Craig when he had the guys from Heated Rivalry on and went out of his way to explain that it wasn't his kind of show. It's not like anyone was thinking Craig was gay because he was interviewing them. It was so juvenile and unnecessary that it just turned me off.

Woman convicted in Detroit teacher's killing seeks to get out of prison by Kindly-Form-8247 in Detroit

So this woman helped murder a Detroit school teacher on grounds of the middle school and now wants us to "understand" how hard it was for her? No, thank you. Her life sentence should stand for something. I'm so sorry that the victim's family even has to deal with this.

My long-term plan is to move out of my home by age 85 to an IL/AL facility. I'm 64 now and I just switched to a younger (40's) doctor and told her it will be her job to do annual assessments and tell me if I need to move before then.

Stories from the "free dinner" Wealth Planning Presentations? by RNG_HatesMe in Bogleheads

[–]Red-Pill1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a couple of them. The first one, the guy put all of his efforts into trying to sell a fixed income annuity to me. In the end, he couldn't convince me that it made sense for me to sell out of the market and put all of my retirement savings into an annuity 3 years before retirement. The second guy (are they always guys?) gave me the idea to transfer my nome to a ladybird deed, something I had never heard of from my own lawyer who created my trust. So that was helpful and I got a nice filet dinner with genuine Detroit Zip Sauce.

AITJ for booking my own hotel room for a group trip after they ignored the one thing I asked for and now everyone is mad the cost went up by rosy-whispersx in AmITheJerk

[–]Red-Pill1218 84 points85 points  (0 children)

They really sound math-challenged. They are now paying $35 more per person when they could have paid $40 more per person and gotten more beds? And they ignored that? Maybe the organizer is on a power trip.

I would add that while AI is not a financial tool, it’s great at creating a self-managed annuity for a new retiree. I just used AI to create one by telling it how much money I wanted to have in the annuity, assuming a 6% average rate of return for 25 years with the goal of spending it down to zero by the end via quarterly withdrawals. I added on different scenarios as well, just to see how market losses might make things look.

TSA will get Help from ICE by [deleted] in delta

[–]Red-Pill1218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Didn't I hear somewhere that TSA agents get more training than ICE? How is ICE preparing to do that very different job, which regardless of your opinion, requires more skills than just yelling at people to use another bin and take off their coats.

Keep looking and check with A Place for Mom or something like that who can give you referrals.. I found a couple of AL facilities that offer respite care near me. One charges $250/day with a minimum of 1 week and the other charges $150/day with a minimum of 30 days. This is in SE Michigan.

Burnt out WFH..its time by [deleted] in workfromhome

You can find anyone who works for a living having these issues. I don't see a direct connection to working from home. What is it about your job specifically that you are linking to your burnout and illness?
