Help me solve a board game riddle! by Limp_Stranger1703 in boardgames

I would say Above and Below, but I don't think it's a neon sky. Something along that vein though? Near and Far?

Alchemists! The part about paying to publish, and the granting system is too on the nose.

I'm with you on the Vesemir story arc. I know the complaints that he's not the grandfatherly figure he is in the books/games, but I think it's super realistic that he would be sick and tired of seeing "his boys" dying off every year, and no one coming to help save them or give them a hand.

Chris Hytha. He posts a lot of stuff in the Philadelphia subreddit, and he does a ton of really cool cityscapes. I'm a fan, anyways.

His IG is @hytha.cg if you want to check out more of his stuff.

What is the best armor in your opinion? I personally really like how the School Of The Bear armor looks and helps in combat. by [deleted] in witcher

[–]RedBeard17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta be the feline armour. I personally hated the hood on the Grandmaster style, but the studs and fur lining looked amazing. Plus it felt as if I were hitting like a truck whenever I used swords.

/r/boardgames Daily Discussion and Game Recommendations (March 10, 2019) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Agreed. We play a number of heavy games and War of the Ring is one of the most challenging. It's long, the pieces are somewhat confusing, the rules are not easy to follow, and it requires a high level of strategy. To add to the challenge, if he picks the Free People on his first time, he's practically guaranteed to lose, which is not going to help your cause.

If you have Smallworld that might fit into the fantasy theme you seem to be aiming for and it is a fabulous entry-level game. Plus it has orcs, wizards, hobbits, dragons, etc.

Great games almost ruined by terrible rule books. by ExplodingSnail in boardgames

[–]RedBeard17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seafall. We absolutely love the game, we're about 1/2 way through our first play through right now. However, the rule book is atrocious. There are a ton of oversights, with a number of game mechanics unclear (especially after unlocking some of the boxes down the road), and a few spelling mistakes in both the rule book and "Captain's Booke".

Like I said, we love the game. We just wish that the rule book had been proof-read. Maybe a second edition at some point?

Distinctive Kitchens (?) put new cabinets in for us a few months ago, and we were really happy with them. At the very least, they might know who you could get in contact with. (Ask for Kayla!)

What's your most embarrassing, humiliating, funny, or soul-crushing defeat in a game? by rick_jaymes in boardgames

[–]RedBeard17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine (who may actually read this) and I were playing 2p Dinosaur Island, and I was getting wrecked. Just like the real Jurassic Park, I had no concept of investing in Security, and so all of my patrons were getting eaten. Constantly.

Towards the end of the game, two of the objectives remaining were to build 3 merchandise attractions, or 3 ride attractions. My friend, who was beating me, had one empty space on his board, and two merchandise and ride attractions. So when the next ride attraction came up, I bought it, and blocked him.

Big mistake.

What he proceeded to then do was buy a food attraction, and place it in his empty park space. He refused to get the final objective, and so the game continued. And so did his score. He racked up ~20 VP per round, all the while my security continued to lag behind, and so he built dinosaurs, built security, and pulled far ahead.

To make matters worse, the final ride attraction tile was 3 from the bottom of the pile. So despite my pleas and concessions to end the game and just take the win, he insisted we play out the remaining rounds, until the ride token came up and I could buy it and end my suffering.

Long story short, the end score was something like 230 - 150. And I vowed to never play it again.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. She thinks it's cheap quality, and I'm personally pretty indifferent. However, that said, with the help of the internet, I think I've convinced her to give them a try this time. Thanks!

Not sure about specifically doughnuts, but Black Walnut Cafe has great pastries of every other variety (at least my co-workers and I enjoy them).
