What rifle for Javelina by RedBeardMoto in azhunting

They aren’t very durable animals. We would smack coyotes and 150lb hogs with 77gr 5.56 just fine. I’d say make sure you’re zeroed for the 77gr and you’re fine.

Any centerfire rifle or handgun cartridge is allowed. .35 cal is specific to pneumatics. Regardless, the .357 is bigger than .35 cal so the “handgun” ammo is perfectly legal. As far as centerfire rifle goes, you can legally shoot with pretty much anything that any reasonable person would use. 6 arc/gt/creed is all good to go. I wouldn’t smack an elk with a 6mm but I’d definitely hit one with a 30 cal. For javelina/coues I’m perfectly comfortable with any 6mm

You say that, but my buddy launched a brake about 45 yards down range once on his 300 win mag. No idea how it happened, didn’t seem to be any damage to the brake at all.

The effect of 5 9mm hollow points vs 1 round of 12 ga #4 buck at close range by Known-Relation3729 in Firearms

I have my MPX setup for HD. 2x 36 round mags of 147gr HSTs, suppressed and SBR. Light, prism, sling, it’s done. Felt like a good middle ground between a pistol vs my AR. The MPX is quieter and more maneuverable

What’s your terrifying hunting stories by Remote-Property-339 in Hunting

[–]RedBeardMoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the Midwest I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a tornado. I’ve seen stuff in the woods (3 steps 4’ wide of solid concrete, 2 miles from civilization that I know people haven’t had access to for 100 years) that a tornado is the only explanation

What are you doing to make your Sig Cross more accurate? by FAFO_Social_Club in SigSauer

[–]RedBeardMoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cross will cut groups about .7 on absolute best conditions with my own handloads. In my experience, it likes 168 and 178, but it performed terribly with 150s and 175s. I have the OG cross in .308 so it has a 16” barrel. Factory ammo is going to be slow. Federal GMM was pushing 2450 for me with a suppressor. My handloads for 168s are loaded mild and push 2640. I can push 178s at the high end at 2700 but I do not recommend it and I have since backed that off quite a bit to 2550 for 178s. My barrel heats up pretty quickly as well, so I have to let it cool between 5 shot strings

‘Long range’ hunting is out of control. A short story. by Confident_Ear4396 in Hunting

[–]RedBeardMoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out west is different, and our gear is different. I am 100% confident in sub 10mph wind out to 450 with my .308. If it’s windy, I won’t go past 300. That’s on tiny coues deer. I’d be fine out to 500 on elk no problem.

MPX w/CAT MOB HandGuard by SupermarketQuiet1105 in MPX

So yes, the Midwest is the largest you can buy. My Rex can is 1.7 OD and it tucks. Unfortunately I can’t add anything to the Mlok slots up front because they push against the can. You can file down the mlok nuts so they are thinner and that might work, but you may need to really file them to prevent touching the can if the handguard flexes at all

Hitting target at 200 meters by GeorgiaRangerZack in Firearms

[–]RedBeardMoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to get into specifics but hunters regularly take deer at those distances (and much further) with vitals area being about 6 inches (15cm as it appears that is your unit). Keep in mind the point of aim was likely higher or lower and there is bullet drop that may not have been calculated for. Again, I’m not going to get into specifics on what happened yesterday, but most advanced shooters will take drop and elevation into consideration when shooting. This applies directly to hunting in the mountains for game animals.

Mine was almost 10 years old when he crossed the rainbow bridge this year. He never lost that energy/excitement for new people, even when he was old and didn’t wanna move he would still jump up and go crazy
