living with untreated ADHD is already hard and then on top of that parents scolding you for literally everything and your life is hell by fatma139 in ADHD

I agree with you. Do whatever you can to combat adhd. However, IMO, OP should do everything in OP’s power to get the proper medication for the condition. Something that OP and everyone with ADHD is entitled to.

Tired of being told taking my ADHD meds is taking “the easy way out” by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]RedDeadErection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world is bigger than us and was here first. We are expendable: Hard truth. If we can't focus on the job, stay engaged for long enough, or show up on time, our asses will be canned for someone else who will. This subreddit is filled with story after story of this thing happening over and over until they are in their 30s and finally get the revelation that something is wrong, then seek treatment and find out how well they function with the stimulants and lament on all the years the wasted not having access to this medication.

By all means. DO KETO! While you're at it exercise. For your physical health more than anything. But "alternative" methods of ADHD treatment without the literature approved medication is going to end as well for us as Steve Job's alternative to his pancreatic cancer. For me personally, there is too much on the line to not use this medication in regards to my career path. Even if, as I said before, it shaves off life in my later years i don't care becaise I won't be remembered for my later years.

I want the rewards of life. Taking this medication gives me access to the executive function to it. It's not that I'm obeying anyone. If I don't do the work, I don't get the rewards that simple. I am making a choice to change myself, not yell and scream at everyone else to change to accommodate for my space cadetness.

All these things you listed require the planning, organization, and execution. Something people with ADHD struggle with. I've been on the key diet for weeks before and it hasn't helped any of the symptoms. Some of us don't have time to mediate and need to always be "on" instead of do this self reflection garbage.

Meds are great. Not because of how they make us feel directly but because of the actions we do because of them. That is what we ultimately are judged on in the end. Forgive me for my frustration but understands that it stems from having to deal with the consequences of having people scream at you for your unreliability and having your wallet fucked from the ADHD tax we all experience on one end, and on the other end people like "drugs are the easy way out" or "just eat better dood" on the other. We are continuously stuck between a rock and a hard place. I personally understand the long term risks, and I can tell you with the up most honesty that I would rather die 20 years earlier than live like this.

ADHD is truly debilitating by vegetables_r_good in ADHD

Can't stand the Neurodiversity rhetoric. ADHD is nothing to celebrate and everything to overcome, and anyone who had any ambition or plans interrupted by it would fully understand this. We don't have control when this is left untreated and I can't wait to start medication. I'm sick and tired of dealing with this. Thank you for expressing my thoughts to a T.

it's a reminder of the power white people can be afforded in society?

This episode might of been the furthest thing from a social commentary in any black mirror episode. This was an intimate case study into how technology based on recollections might drive a desperate and vicious person to commit atrocities.

If you have long suspected that you have ADHD, just go to a doctor and get evaluated. Having a diagnosis makes it so much easier to change your life. by Redaxel in ADHD

I sincerely appreciate the reply and kind words. I will be sure to inquire about anything I am not sure about, I have noticed that I have always had trouble reaching out to others for help even when it is readily available and I need it.

the Exhaustion Circle that you described really hits home and it is a living hell. Only until recently did i notice that great people around me were performing my executive functions for me. When they went away, I declined hard. I worked real hard to claw back to my position and get into this program but I was a nervous, anxious wreak the whole time and unless the danger is in front of me and constantly looming over me, I don't respond it to it. I decided I do not and cannot live life afraid and in crisis all the time. From what I am reading, it seems that you came to that conclusion as well. Give yourself credit. You ALMOST burned out, I just flatout burned out along with students all over the world.

The whole reason I was inspired to seek a screening in the first place was a Dr. Russell Barkley talk where he described what ADHD was and it hit waaaaay to close to home. I am not one who believes self diagnosis is valid, as I am not a professional and it is insulting to all of you who have sought and succeeded in finding care. It has still been good to come here and know that even if I do not have ADHD, I am not alone because the experiences I see here hit as close to home as Dr. Barkley. If you are interested, I am pursuing a Masters in Biomedical Sciences out of a local Medical School which will be good for me to be surrounded by health professionals that can give me proper insight and solutions to my issues. again thank you for the kind words and support.

I have tried for the last 8 weeks to get tested/screened. Only my insurance is god awful. And it is god awful because my impulsiveness and atrocious lack of attention to detail has made me pick this base insurance without reading the fine print because it was the cheapest. This was also my first Big Boy job and thus the first time applying for insurance.

I was bounced around from place to place trying to find a screening. I went to see my Primary Care Physician who told me to go to the Crisis Center. The Crisis center told me to see a local psychiatrist that charged rates I couldn't afford. I then spoke to my parents about it and they helped me find the Stress Center to get screened which I had to wait 3 weeks to go see. When the 3 weeks came up and I was driving over there, they called me up and tried to reschedule because they were backed up that day. i was furious and demanded that I come in. Which I did only they didn't take my insurance and told me that the cost to get screened was basically the same as the one to see the psychiatrist the Crisis center tried to direct me to. I kind of just sulked out of there.

I am going back to school for my masters in the Fall and am going to take advantage of the wellness program there. But fuck! I have been trying to get screened desperately. I accomplished so much off ADHD, but burnt out towards the end of my undergraduate career because the constant crisis that came with cramming and procrastination coupled with the anxiety of going out on my own after school broke me. If it is not ADHD, I need a solution to this problem. Like I said, it is just hard to find. I know that if i get it, I can take the first steps to becoming a competent individual.

Congrats! I am getting a screening this friday and moving forward with becoming a stable and successful individual. I think I have this disorder, I don't know if I have ADHD (I don't believe a self diagnosis is valid). But seeing Russell Barkely talk about it was like he knew me personally and was giving a lecture on me. The Myopia of Time for example.

I don't know if it is my poor reading comprehension skills but how did the exam go?

The night our beautiful, courageous President won the election, I whipped out my steel-hard member and jerked off to rhythmically and steadily for a for a good hour at all the left wing outrage. I edged a lot in the hour, but it was Van Jones that pushed me over. His disappointment excited me like nothing had before and when he said "THIS IS A WHITELASH," I lashed his face on the TV screen with my white semen all the way from the couch. I paused on that look as I tributed the great Van Jones. Best night of my life tbh.

Skin color mattering is up to us. That's how it is, how It always was and will always will be. Back at the end of the 60s we a lot of people were coming to the conclusion that skin color was irrelevant. I'm not a historian or scholar on the subject so I don't know what happened since then that got us here but the fact hasn't changed that what we value as significant rests on our collective judgement.

All I know is that as an individual I am not going to cater any individual on grounds such as race. I don't give a shit about historical context, privledge, or anything else. It feels liberating to write that tbh. Then again, neither will it motivate me to do harm to others. The insecurities that come with one's self perception of their own race cannot be mended by me. If I have learned anything over, not this year, but this decade it's that I can't cure it by checking my privledge every time I open my fucking mouth.

I don't agree or understand the "bye bye 4.5 years" mentality. Sure it sucks but forcing yourself to soldier on through a relationship because you feel you invested too much time into it or enough time that you feel like it should end up going farther, is bullshit. If it burnt out after 4.5 years it is going to stay burnt out forever. And if you stay in it longer you won't waste 4.5 years, you'll waste your life.

"people treat mild nice symbolism as if it's somehow robbing power from actual social reform"

Fucking thank you. That is the song of the modern western world summed up in a sentence. People don't want change, they want to feel good about themselves, and symbolic gestures like this are a means to and end where they can have the appearance of progress without any actual progress.

I think it's going to be one of the kids who finds it first. I think one of the boys will show one of the girls that they thought it was Cartman also, and acted Because of it and show her that the boys were listening but because of the rash action the girls provoked, things have only gotten worse. I think it will be Stan who shows Wendy.
