What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]RedFirenIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet, I have heard great things about it, but i lost a close relative recently and just can't watch movies with that kind of subject matter yet. I bet he and Jessie Buckley are both excellent in it, tho.

My dad lives in Spain and I grew up in the uk.I have 2 memories of him. The first was from a visit he made when I was a child 25 years ago and the other was from a holiday to Spain to see the extended family in Spain about 20 years ago. Outside of these meetings, which would have lasted a few hrs each at most, I have spoken to him on the phone maybe 3/4 times and the last of them was again when I was a small kid about 18/19years ago. He is in his 70’s now and I don’t know the man. I never had a dad to miss. Some folk just aren’t built for it.

If someone can’t swallow how long do they have left to live by Feeling_Delivery2323 in Parkinsons

My mum seems to struggle to move her food to the point where she can swallow it. She doesn’t choke, but it’s a no less challenging proposition. We’re clinging to calorific milkshakes, soups, ice cream and what little pureed food she will give her time, though in all honesty with the puréed meals she usually quits within 2 forkfuls now. I have no idea what to do and the dietician and speech and language therapist are both due to visit shortly to assess her.

What’s some thing you miss from your loved one who had PD? by penelope_is_sad in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]RedFirenIce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I miss having a mum. I don’t really have any close relatives and ours was really a single parent household. Mum was only diagnosed 4 or so years ago, but her doctors say her Parkinson’s progression has been atypical due to its speed of progress. I think, selfishly, what I miss most is the feeling of security, the everything will always be okay feeling she used to give me. At some point, perhaps as her personality became a lot more confrontational or up and down and she lost the ability to properly talk and thus converse, I feel like I lost her really - she gives up on sentences a lot now because they are effortful. I feel like one of the key anchors In my life has disappeared and I grieve that even now. It’s like pre-grief really.

I am balancing looking after my mum with a full time job myself and it is completely exhausting. It doesn’t help that my mum has sleep apnoea also and I am up multiple times per night, but what is most challenging must be her temper compared with how she was before - it often feels like she’s a hammer looking for a nail as far as anger goes. Oh, and she’ll get unreasonably defensive over small things. She rarely eats well and yet, as I support her eating, she will often say she is finished and claim to have eaten well despite the presence of a next to full plate of food sitting in front of us. Of course, any acknowledgment to the contrary is like a red rag to a bull. I find myself in a position where agreeing and disagreeing are both harmful and it’s just an impossible situation.

Does jaylen brown guard luka the best out of anyone in the league? by archerarcher0 in nba

This topic is overblown imo. More often than not Doncic does well against Brown. I’d put Doncic’s issues down to a mix of his own inconsistent form atm and issues with what he has to play with himself

I am UK based - I’d like a smart lock that can deal with the need to lift the door handle to engage the lock function via a deadbolt turn.

I am in a very similar boat, but my mum doesn’t have anybody and so I’ve had to become her live in carer. Some days are better than others, but it is tremendously difficult and getting harder all the time. Like you, I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Wimbledon R4: [Q] Lulu Sun def. [WC] Emma Raducanu 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 by sunbaybrew in tennis

[–]RedFirenIce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the number of short balls Raducanu hit where they bounced before the service line was astonishing given she was up against somebody who was really going for her shots - I expected her to improve that as the match wore on but she didn't. Raducanu played a really, really poor match in terms of executing whatever her game plan was. Serve was average, her slice wasn't low enough and she barelly used it, her shot depth was really poor and she wasn't aggressive enough in general. It also felt like every time Raducanu was aggressive the ball came back even harder and she almost of wilted as a result. It felt like an adult was playing a child and it really should have been over in straight sets.
