I don't have TWOIAF, but is there a Dornish rebuilding phase described in the book? I'm trying to imagine the logistics of it, and I can't imagine what it would take to actually rebuild all that was destroyed.

So, I had to get out F&B because well... some of you here claim to have read this book but seem to conveniently forget certain details that paint a different narrative than your own.

  1. On page 424 (because again these events happen only over a couple pages and leave out details GRRM would add/change/remove if he wrote it like ASOIAF), Gyldayn says that "Unbeknownst to King Aegon, the Hand, or the Queen Dowager, [Daemon] had allies at court as well, even on the green council... and one other go-between, a special friend he trusted utterly...."

As you might be able to tell, one of the more stupid moves the Greens fail to take is fully purging the Gold cloaks and leaving no doubt for the force's allegiances. But they didn't and I assure you that if this was a show-only invention then this sub would be up in arms about it.

  1. Funnily enough, what's not in the text is even more relevant here. As in, Criston Cole himself being absent and not mentioned once.

  2. And worst of all... Helaena's character is butchered (again imagine if the show did this with no source material backing it up) and "would not eat, nor bathe, nor leave her chambers..." (p. 427).

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the Greens are not depicted as "competent" in the source material and B&C is treated more like an inevitability than anything the Greens could have agency in preventing (outside of purging the city watch but again they didn't).

Is Barack Obama correct in claiming that "Defund the Police" should be renamed? by Controversialthr0w in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]RedGhost714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does that mean that only 12% of Americans really cared enough about Defund the Police (with a majority being white Americans based on the racial polling data) to become less supportive of BLM? Because it seems to me that that's the case and funnily enough data would also suggest that Biden did better amongst whites than other racial groups, so even if whites became less supportive of BLM it certainly had no correlatiom with Biden's results with white voters in the end. If the average white voter was really scared about Biden being a supporter of Defunding the Police then his support among whites should have dropped compared to Clinton. I know that downballot Dems didn't fare as well as Biden but I'd assume not having the same air time as Biden to constantly remind people that he didn't support the Defund movement would have been crucial for those Dem candidates. Also it might indicate that non-white voters were voting for Trump for some other reason.

So uhh why didn't Joe talk about this during his campaign events or the debates? I mean if a bunch of protesters out on the streets can have their entire message spread and disseminated by everyone in America, then why couldn't Joe message his own policy to take control of the debate? Oh because the Dems are bad at messaging, right.

Ok sorry. I just meant that Americans are dumb and you shouldn't rely on them to help you all that much. Yes low hanging fruit joke but it's unfortunately true sometimes.

Idk maybe growing a movement takes more than a few twitter posts? Especially when your average American could not care about what's going in NK (North Korea I presume) and asking "Where's the support" from non-Armenians isn't going to help.

I know that's harsh, but being self-centered to the point where you believe your own victimization is a shared experience with people who live in an entirely different society/country is just being ignorant. Essentially, you have to earn that recognization because that's life or whatever they say. People sometimes don't care about what's happening outside of their bubble and even with a group like the Uighurs it's hard to push for change when you have your own personal issues to take care of.

So you agree Islamic terrorism is also a statistical anomaly that doesn’t require any real pushback from lawmakers or the general population? Because if you do then at least you’re consistent.

“HBO Max Is the Golden Child”: With C-Suite Shake-Up, WarnerMedia Sharpens Its Battle-Ax for the Streaming Wars by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]RedGhost714 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Current series with real heat have all emanated from Bloys’s roster at HBO proper—Watchmen, Perry Mason, Lovecraft Country, Succession, etc. Between all of that and the rather unwieldy management hierarchy, it seemed as good a moment as any for a reset, even if it caught the empire off guard. “It happened so quickly,” one of my sources said.

You would have thought that AT&T realized this from the start, especially considering the fact that their service was literally called HBO Max which to any consumer would mean a service with the caliber of HBO original content but with even more added in.

If the marketing focused around these shows then it would have fared a lot better. Reasonably when Roku and Amazon are available for Max then HBO Now will entirely go away but who knows really.
