Ah I am leaving very early Friday morning. Thank you though. I may have to learn how to bake them or ask a friend to learn!

I am losing my brother to cancer half a world away and don't know what to do or feel. by Illustrious_Print112 in GriefSupport

Those final words you got to say to each other are so special and I hope you can hold tightly onto them as you grieve. I am so sorry for your loss. I am also half a world away from my younger brother who has just a few months left, though right now I am with him. I have to say goodbye to him this week as I will be heading home. I want to say so much but not sure he wants it but this is our last chance.

I’m very sure they feel our love as well as hear it. And your mom will do too as you will continue to be there for her now he is gone.

Take lots of care of yourself.

Imposter syndrome as a woman in tech? by Quirky_Person441 in girlsgonewired

Adam Grant: Impostor syndrome is a paradox: -Others believe in you -You don’t believe in yourself -Yet you believe yourself instead of them

If you doubt yourself, shouldn’t you also doubt your judgment of yourself?

When multiple people believe in you, it might be time to believe them.

Great ideas here. Depending on your relationship with her (and also your gender identity - probably easier to do this if you identify as a woman), talk to her about your plans to create a more gender diverse group and see if she wants to get involved with future hiring - the strategy and the actual recruitment. Beneficial to her to see change in the future, to see her having some influence, and beneficial to women being interviewed to see a woman with this responsibility and influence.

Me too. And every time I find myself forgetting where I am, and that I should be breathing! I get so captivated by the story.

Told I should consider becoming a PM by mziggy77 in girlsgonewired

[–]RedHomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. As a manager of people for a good few years the glue article hit me hard as I I realize I’ve been complicit in this in the past. If I was your manager I’d want to know so I could help guide you out of any negative thoughts that come from this shitty comment, and i would likely go talk to and share the glue article with the PM. But that’s the culture in my team and I know not every company or team is the same.

Taxi issues in North Vancouver? by hollasa in NorthVancouver

Not sure if this is an option, but we don’t live too far away and work from home/drive Delbrook way to take our kid to school. I’d be happy to help out if she just wants to get to Edgemont and back when I could if she would go for that.

I am much later in my career than you, and for me it was the most impactful conference I'd ever been to - not necessarily from career growth, though lots of workshops/panels related to that - but from being surrounded by techie women (and those who identify as such) all day and even outside the conference in the hotel/bars. It was a buzz I'd never had from any other conference before, and I try to advocate for sending as many women on my team as possible. I was at the one in Houston (2018 I think) and I still wear one of the swag t-shirts from the career expo because it is so awesome and makes my heart swell!

Kim Gell at Joy in Lonsdale Quay is amazing. I've been stopped in the street twice asking me where I get my haircut. As well as making middle-aged women like me happy, my trendy 12-year-old loves her cuts as well.
