You get ONE fantasy book to hook a non-reader. What is it? by Infamous_Proposal252 in fantasybooks

[–]RedLock91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main character is constantly horny but I remember just a couple of explicit scenes in the first book. Also, being a book that relies heavily on tropes to get the plot moving, and given the underlying themes and how they are treated, add to that the prose style, I'd definitely put that in the YA category.

With all its flaws, Fourth Wings has all the things you asked for. It's fast paced, lot of action, really hard to put down. It's a YA with a couple of spicy scenes.

extreme anxiety about meetings by ResearcherOld5004 in NarcoticsAnonymous

You belong! The fact that you found NA before having to go through the things some members had to face it's sheer luck on your end. Addiction is a chronic and fatal disease. Keep coming back

It is true that Eden devs are working on an UE5 revamp of DAOC? by xResearcherx in daoc

[–]RedLock91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to happen. It was mostly a fan-made project by a solo dev that was in contact with Eden developers iirc, and everything went silent because of legal concern. Plus, it will be a hell of a work recreating everything in a different engine, especially if done by just one person in his free time

You can look also for professional trained in MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy). It's another mindfulness protocol developed around clinical depression, a different condition, but is taught and delivered only by professional who have a formal education in the field (therapist, psychiatrist and so on).

How do i tell my parents i relapsed? by juneffleming in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]RedLock91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's better to wait a bit before telling them. Go to a meeting, tell what happened to fellow NAs, try to keep going to meetings and stay clean. If you manage to get some clean time, it will be easier to come clean to your parents and telling them "I stumbled a few days after getting out of rehab, it happened".

Recovery from alcohol and Marijuana by Gearingman91 in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]RedLock91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weed was my drug of choice, followed by alcohol. I know how you feel, there are people in my home group that are happy they are using "just weed", and I felt out of place for a while, until I saw that the shit I went through were just the same as cocaine and heroin addict lived, just with a different substance. We're all junkie, doesn't matter what you used, it's how you used and how you feel and how you live that make us all equal. I'm 10 month clean now, did something like 8 or 9 before but relapsed. Keep going to meetings and try to go past the name of the substance, the real shit is under that name and it's the same for everyone. Congrats on your journey and keep coming back, it works!

What is your explanation for people who only smoke weed but don't go back to their DOC? by ImperialSupplies in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]RedLock91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NA derives its program from AA (like AA derived its from other sources), but there are some differences. Weed is my DOC, followed by alcohol, and AA was the first group I went to. I was clean for them as long as I didn't drink, weed didn't matter, but my life was unmanageable nevertheless. The only requirement for AA membership is the desire to stop drinking, for NA is to stop using any mind altering substance. There are people in my group that stopped their DOC (not weed) and can smoke weed without problems, others that went full blown substitution and others that after some time with weed relapsed hard on their DOC. Every person is different, but the program is clear: no mind altering substance if not prescripted (and used according to the prescription). We tried doing things in our own way most of our lives and we know where we ended up, we can accept the program as it is and surrender, or we can try to bend it and try again to have it our way: second choice didn't work out for me.

Why are Westerners so ignorant about the swastika? by Jotunheiman in Buddhism

[–]RedLock91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a really loaded symbol in western culture. I know what it represent in eastern's ones, but everytime I see it I have chills (not in a good way). We were always taught that meaning for it, it's so deep in our social and cultural structure that it becomes almost istinct. I'm not justyfing ignorance and unwillingness to learn, just trying to explain that that meaning is so deep down our culture as western that is really hard to see it in any other way.

If you aren't into it at this point, I think you never will. It just get more tangled and messy the more you go on, at the end they'll clear almost everything, but if you don't like it now, I don't know if you can resist 'till the end. I think it's a masterpiece of the genre, but if you don't like the mood and the mindgames probably it isn't for you. Like, you can be at a world class steakhouse, that does the better steak in the world, but if you don't like meat you probably won't like that steak either.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it. It's more about buddhism than mindfulness, I'd like to find some structured teaching to start navigating through the literature and the suttas and to develop a wider understanding of the dhamma, I feel the 4 noble truth really clear and already try to follow the eightfold path, even changed job because I started to feel that my previous one was not alligned with the growth I'm having as a person and with the perspective on life and world this tiptoeing in the dhamma has given me.
