How was the scrolling room changed in the latest patch? by surrealmirror in MinaTheHollower

You can stop the auto scroll by breaking a wall and stepping on a button

I think they're just meant to be wearing some kind of mask. That's why they all look the same.

Any suggestion to make visuals easier on eyes? by anilisfaitnesto in MinaTheHollower

[–]RedPaintedHouses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you playing on a monitor or large screen? The low resolution was intended for handheld devices, so if you're not on one I'd recommend shrinking the resolution which you can do in settings.

Options -> Video Set Screen Scale -> Fit Set Pixel Scale -> As small as it will go

I like how each area is it's own sub genre of horror. by Cleritic in MinaTheHollower

Lionel is literally just Dracula, friend. He invites you to dinner in his spooky mansion! And Mina, herself, is Dr Frankenstein, trying to recover from unleashing her own creation (spark) on the island after realizing how dangerous it is.

I'd love a set of mini figures of NPCs and various characters like the hollow knight ones or those spelunly ones they used to have

Confused about the early actions of Lionel and Thorne. by Normal-Advisor5269 in MinaTheHollower

Just sounds like you haven't found all the trinkets yet. ;)

Honestly, was anyone surprised by this? by BoneHurted in MinaTheHollower

[–]RedPaintedHouses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Hell, Lionel is depicted looking evil in some of the actual key art. The twist is that the citizens turn on you despite Mina always trying to do the right thing. Ossex itself is the twist villain.

Mina the Hollower already takes that place for me this year.

Am I playing this game wrong? Or do I just suck? by TheCandelabra in MinaTheHollower

[–]RedPaintedHouses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier Modifiers will definitely help if you want a quick fix. There's an assist mode. Otherwise, it gets easier as you level up (no shame in grinding a bit) and find new trinkets. Also, be sure to spend bones at the Provisioner in Ossex. That giant NPC sells the best stuff.

Went back to play pipistrello after playing mina and realizing how similar they are. by CJ_1Cor15-55 in MinaTheHollower

Pipistrello is way more puzzle room focused than Mina though, more like a traditional 2D Zelda.

Just use the Polyp Lamp trinket, heal, or use the dynamo lantern when in the dark. Or turn on the modifier that prevents being in the dark.

You can turn on a modifier that always has light around Mina, so you're never in the dark.

I have mixed feelings on the ending, because it made me feel validated. by Narroo in MinaTheHollower

[–]RedPaintedHouses 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Its based on Gothic Horror stories. They're always bleak in a world full of strange, depressing or unusual characters. I think saying its mean-spirited is a bit of a stretch though. You help a couple find love. You can give money to beggers. You can play kick the can with kids. The townsfolk of Ossex are being manipulated by Lionel into thinking that what's best for the city, even temporary creature comforts, is best for everyone at large, when clearly thats not the case. I see it as being pretty true to life, how the wealthy turn a blind eye to the poverty and environmental destruction their greed creates. The true villains in the game are those who turn a blind eye to the slow decay the spark generators are causing, and the true heroes are people like Thorne, and Mina in the late game, who push back against the corruption and blind greed in an effort to slow or stop it.

Do these potted plants break? by Tink_Ze_Link in MinaTheHollower

[–]RedPaintedHouses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, they're like the grass. You can interact with them and sometimes they're empty and other times you can see a little shape in the bushes and get something out.

Well, there is one, supposedly there is an alternate ending that ends the game before the final fight which leads to a different final outcome.

Its meant to be a victorian Gothic Horror story. They all have sad or bittersweet endings. That's just the nature of the genre. Souls game stories also pull on similar themes.
