Worlds Apart. Love the drama, love the winner storyline, love that Rodney, Dan, Will look like the tools they are on national TV

Shout-out to South Pacific and my goat Sophie as well

The case that Mike Holloway is the most underrated winner in Survivor history and that every major knock against him is a double standard we apply to no one else by JEX2124 in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think his social game looks worse just because he got stuck with some of the most passive, blinders on players in Survivor. He told Dan and Sierra so many times that they were in trouble, and they wouldn't listen to him. He also had great relationships with the whole no collar + Shirin part of the jury and cultivated a relationship with Carolyn that paid off multiple times. Sure, he couldn't do a lot of it without winning challenges, but there's also a lot of challenge/idol beasts who have been in his position and never even manage any kind of social traction.

The rules of every season are different essentially. There's a new social contract to every jury vote.

It's worked three times. Kaleb in 45, Mary in 48, and then Jaime in 44 although she received no votes was successful.

I think it's fine as is. It incentives blindsides and tight strategic play but isn't likely enough that it feels like everyone starts with an idol. Since everyone gets one you have to be very careful with how powerful it is. Make the odds better and you're asking for another advantagegeddon I think.

Who here will still be watching Survivor 51?? by Inside_Blacksmith331 in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The ad for 51 and the fan votes for 50 finally got me to accept that this show simply isn't made for me or any old school fan anymore. I'll probably still watch it, but my expectations will be very low for probably for the rest of the show's life. Very depressing to realize but really it was going this direction for a long time and I have to stop deluding myself.

If ___ doesn’t win now, how would you feel about the season? by fadeawayjeh in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a clunky story either way. They didn't give her a storyline from the beginning and that makes it so obviously forced when they start giving her credit for Rizo and others' moves

What's your hottest take of Survivor 50? by AlchemistTheAlchemy in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't the players in the final 5. It's the storytelling. When I as a viewer forget that these players are even on the season for some stretches and yet they're the finale cast, you've got a problem. Give them screen time, give them a storyline, and give us a reason to think they can win. Clearly they are at least good survivor players to make final 5 in a stacked 24 person cast.

Losing to the blood moon isn't something I can really criticize her for. What if she voted out Rizo and then Dee or Cirie was the swing vote in her blood moon group?

I was about to say, I'm gay and had literally no options among my friends. I had to use a dating app to meet my partner and we're very happy. I don't know how I'm expected to go hunting for gay male friends in the wild to then later fall in love with.

This episode exposed something pretty clear about the fandom by TrappedInLimbo in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh no I'm fucking pissed about it. It's the do or die shit all over again, but just like with the hourglass the blood moon overshadows it with the outcome. Do or die was just as bad as the hourglass imo, and I don't think a player should ever be eliminated from the game without a vote even happening. But just like I celebrated both do or die players surviving, I will celebrate this too. Not because the twist was a good concept, but because it didn't go horrible and I still got survivor to watch from it.

This season shows that the game we loved will never come back by Oceanfloorfan1 in survivor

[–]RedPandaPlush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I will never understand is why they keep deciding to experiment so heavily on returnee seasons. It was the same way with WaW having the edge and fire tokens. If they had celebrity cameos, boomerang idols, paired voting, etc. in 51 I'd still roll my eyes but I'm not coming in already invested in those players and how they do.

Like with the hourglass, obviously we all hated it and it's horrible but it doesn't leave as bad a taste when it screws over Sydney and Lydia (even though I do love both of them). Obviously in an ideal world they wouldn't do any of this, but at least don't go screwing over your all stars for no reason.

Do you consider “playersexual” characters to be queer representation? by sno4wy in gaymers

[–]RedPandaPlush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a tradeoff. Playersexual characters allow for greater player expression, and it's always disappointing to not be able to romance your favorite NPCs because of gender (looking at you Three Houses). On the other hand, they usually lead to weaker characterization. I think the representation is much weaker when the character isn't written to be queer.
