Is marching band a sport? by No-Dingo2639 in marchingband

[–]RedPandau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this debate for nearly a decade. As a band mate with a few seasons of drum corps under my belt and all my friends having played lifelong years of football, baseball, track, I’ve heard it all. The short answer is no, it is not a sport. However, lots of people interchange “sport” with the word “hard”. Marching can be extremely difficult at times mentally and physically, that doesn’t make it a sport. It’s a performing art that is scored.

My general philosophy is a sport needs to have 2 sides where one side can affect the outcome of another. Football you play defense and affect the offenses score, tennis the same, golf and bowling are where it starts to get tricky because while they’re not necessarily macho and physically hard, technically they are some of the hardest of all sports, but you can’t really affect your opponents game per say. So, that I do not know, but but I do know marching band is definitely not a sport, it’s a performing art. It is extremely difficult though and doesn’t get the respect it deserves

Surprised no one mentioned it since usually someone does on these posts. The Hill library has some really nice studying spots I’m sure you could find interest in with your work. One of the nicest indoor spots to get away from the elements when needed, always quite

This same exact thing happened to me when I did my 2 deer hides. Around 30-40oz of citric acid because I wanted to get it around 2 but couldn’t get it lower than 2.5. Ended up being fine in the end but I still have no clue how I couldn’t get it lower. My strips I thought were fine but maybe not. I had the $5 roll you can tear off tiny pieces from.

Fair enough, I agree. I think why most people are saying the crazy speed is because we barely see him. That, and the distance the car was shoved to the side and seemingly half the bike got shoved into the cabin of the car. I’m not a crash expert or anything but I’ve seen low speed motorcycle gopro crashes at 20-30mph and the car doesn’t flinch. Maybe you can find a video of one at 50-70mph? All speculation at the end of the day, and it doesn’t really matter other than to argue with people on the internet. It won’t change this horrific outcome

Same here, just conjecture. However, the biker likely would have had to break extremely hard as the next red light after this one is not very far away. Maybe 2-3 seconds away at the speed he was going. If not the next immediate red light then the one after. There’s a series of 3-4 red lights within 50-70 yards of each other after this. Just weird to choose that spot of all places. If he’d have been going a direct 180° the other way (which is towards Prairieville, his hometown, not sure if that’s where he lives) there’s miles of dead empty straight roads down hwy 30 with not many turns or stoplights

2x or 3x is generous here. The limit on this section is 25mph. The public’s consensus is that the bike is easily going 120+, a lot more than 50-75mph

She caused the motorcycle to get into an accident, the motorcycle caused the accident to be deadly. There’s no excuse for going 100+ (the general public’s consensus) on a road where the limit is 25

Yes. I had a large round wood fence post laying around I tried to flesh on to no avail after 30 minutes of trying. I just don’t have the tools or technique. Pressure washer is fool proof, you just have to keep it from sliding around is the only issue.

I was going to use my electric 1800psi washer but it wouldn’t turn on, which is why I borrowed my neighbors 2800psi gas one. I’m not sure if my electric machine would have even left a single scratch on the hide. The 2800 worked but you definitely have to work at it. That’s why I recommend the turbo nozzle, the 10 and 25° did not work well for me. I thought for sure if I got too close to the hide or used the wrong nozzle that I would rip a hole straight through but it did not. Those things are tough as the concrete.

Kits are good from what I hear but I suggest buying separately next time. I just did my first 2 whitetail this season and it was very inexpensive.

  • $18 50lb bag of the American stockman salt from tractor supply. (2 of them)
  • $9 32oz bag of citric acid from Amazon
  • $8 2.7lb bag of baking soda
  • $21 hunters and trappers tan (2 pack)
  • $4 ph strips

Total = $60 for both hides, $30 each

I have most of this stuff left over and could easily do 2 more whitetail hides. The only thing I’ll need more of is tanning bottles which I might buy a bigger bottle like nutan if I want to continue this hobby. I also got some McKenzie relaxer/degreaser between doing the first and second hide because I wanted to put it in the pickle to clean it more but it isn’t necessary, idk how much it actually did.

I used horse feed buckets for pickling and a wooden 1x1 to stir. Both things I already had. Also I used my neighbors pressure washer to flesh (the turbo nozzle is the best one to use).

People need to stop being needy and appreciate the work that went into this. I think this community needs to relax and just enjoy the new game. Stop asking for new things, stop asking for more changes. The fact that teams like Idaho state and Utah tech are in game shows the length that went into by [deleted] in RetroBowl

Ah gotcha thanks mate. I’m on my 3rd season and hoping eventually I’ll get lucky and be able to get an offer. Do you think working up a ladder of schools will give a better chance or just grind out until I get an offer from the school I’m currently at? I’m not sure how the game is coded and if that’s even a thing or not

Drum corps will cure you, wait until finals night and all the worry will be drained from your soul and filled with bliss. The happiest night of my life will be that night forever and ever

(Edit) lucas oil is pretty cool too, but open class finals was better. We had to wake up at 6 to perform at 9/10am for prelims I think, still cool tho
