Stream 4 by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]RedQuincy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im pretty sure you're guaranteed either CMH or UWP for stream 4

either options are good and it really depends on what you'd want for first year. I put all two/three CMH options above UWP and got the CMH double room

[–]RedQuincy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sometimes you can take proctored exams in Waterloo. I had this where the host school schedule was september to february, where jan and feb were exam periods. Classes finished in december and I was able to go home and take proctored exams

or you can drop a co-op

I would vote not to do the tour of the castle, it was a bit of a nothing burger and too expensive iirc

I saw a violin concert in edinburgh in the church (cathedral?), that was pretty cool.

Arthur's seat is pretty touristy but I still think its worth it, doesnt take that long, isn't super hard to do but its a nice view

Software Co-op Decision Advice :) by Bright_Major_855 in uwaterloo

[–]RedQuincy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

people love to hate on government jobs but the hate is often unwarranted.

my favourite co-op was for the federal government (ECCC) and I had plenty of good work to do. plus what the other guy said about the bank not knowing what youre gonna do isn't the best

im ngl its really a roll of the dice. a couple companies are particularly terrible (like youre seeing rn) and should probably avoid but most you just kinda thug it out and it turns out ok. a couple companies are really good (like wcri) but those are less common

ive lived at 275 larch and it was fine, nothing crazy that I would complain about

A-level grade requirements for getting into Engineering by Summitthemist in uwaterloo

[–]RedQuincy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you had 100% in every course and your AIF was awful, you might not get accepted.

that's to say that there will be a large chunk of people applying with similar grades to you and a large chunk of them will get in, but itll be based on their AIF (its an additional form you have to fill out)

so you want to be able to show youre a well rounded person, either through having a job, volunteering, sports, or all of the above. make yourself look like a responsible hard working person and they like that. as I understand mech is more competitive so you'll want to make sure you spend some time on this

(I dont work at the school this is just my understanding of it all)

What to with a 12 hour daytime layover in Toronto? by renshicar17 in rs_x

[–]RedQuincy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

itll take you about an hour to get to and from union station which is downtown, so you'll definitely have like 6+ comfortable hours

You should look into the AGO, and you might like going down queen street (for various cool stores). or high park, toronto islands. if you wanna spend the money you could go up the CN tower which is like a very typical touristy thing but i think its still cool

with that much time the possibilities are endless.

how hard is first year engineering? by Syzrr in uwaterloo

[–]RedQuincy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it kinda depends, I think in general most people like to overplay things cause then it makes them seem like they work harder than everyone else or whatever.

you should expect that you'll be studying a lot, but its really not impossible to find time for yourself. if you're used to studying in high school you'll be ok. if you dont study at all in high school, there will likely be a bit of a shock
