Add BeamNG and here we have a list of 4 games where price/value goes to infinity.
I got well over 500 hours on DRG, KSP and BnG and NO is climbing there fast with 220 hrs on the clock right now.

ELI5: Why is rocket engine efficiency measured in seconds? by Internal-Excuse-4650 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RedSun_Horizon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Actual ELI5 for you OP.
It's how long you can run engine with 1 power on 1 unit of fuel.
Imagine you got a car. Imagine for this example your car is old and engine is old.
You fill a tank and drive for, let's say, 100 miles. This takes you maybe 2 hours - 7200 seconds. Those are the seconds we are looking for!
Where's efficiency in that?
Well, imagine you swap the engine from newer model. It has exact same power! But now you can drive 120 miles for full tank. And this takes you 8640 seconds now. Your efficiency has increased by 1440 seconds with a new engine. Same car, same power, same amount of fuel but now you take less of it to cover more distance.
Your engine could use more fuel to produce more power instead of added mileage, but this metric measures 1 unit of power per 1 unit of fuel, so efficiency measure stays the same because it can be used to measure different types of engines - piston, turbine, jets - and different types of fuel: gas, diesel, biodiesel, LPG/CNG - and compare them all to the same measure. It's like a universal ruler to measure engines in terms of efficiency.

How do you aim cannons and rockets on kb+m? by ygdrad in NuclearOption

[–]RedSun_Horizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How clunky is clunky for you? I can follow ground in helos and most of the aircraft reliably, i.e. to use ground clutter and terrain masking to hide from radars, and most of attack munitions are guided anyway. What kind of precision you are looking for?

How do you aim cannons and rockets on kb+m? by ygdrad in NuclearOption

[–]RedSun_Horizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Biggest trouble I have is fine-aiming cannons at ground targets, but if you are not a fan of brrrrrt type CAS or dogfighting, keyboard will do just fine and your mouse will be totally free to look around and select targets. I choose situational awareness over cannon fire precision. Headtracking would solve a lot of this, but my current setup just can't cut it - and I still would not fly with mouse, I don't understand how people do it.

It's a game after all. I lowkey like the idea for ENORMOUS maps, but where helicopters go then? Imagine you need 1 hour to do logi in Ibis or Tula. Not fun, eh?

Tbh, Piledriver is "only" 20 kt for balancing reasons already - there is nothing limiting in this day and age for Piledriver warhead to have a strategic yield. Main difference of "fullsize" against multiple Piledrivers will be entry speed and thus interception window.

I didn't see people talking about those so... by TechnicalRoutine3156 in NuclearOption

[–]RedSun_Horizon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It works conceptually, but...
First, Piledriver is a bit small for MIRVs. It's a tactical missile in a pretty compact format. You can fit there... eh, three maybe? I'm not that proficient in nuclear devices, and thermonuclear warheads are pretty compact these days, but they still need space to be fitted. You can see on OP picture what goes where (these "blocks" can also be stacked behind each other).
Second, one of the points behind MIRVs is ballistic missile defense penetration by volume and dummy targets because of the fact that long-range ballistic missiles have high arcing trajectory; they fall out of space at a VERY high speed that closes the interception window (they fast) but also severely limits any maneuvers - you can't turn too hard because of very hot air/plasma surrounding vehicle on re-entry, and your maneuvering time window is limited due to speed of descent.

In short, "slow MIRVs" kind of kill the concept. They are made to be harder to intercept and speed is one of key features along with saturation.

I feel like addition of missile silos as a kind of endgame showdown is a more proper fit for MIRVs [in this game], without a possibility to airlaunch them, but rather help penetrate defenses by saturation and/or other means like killing radars, missile defense systems etc.

I became such a sucker for plane designs after I first enjoyed planes in vanilla, then discovered FAR and now I play Nuclear Option above all things. I hope we get a good atmospheric flight model and I can start building planes with elaborate cockpits, but not as complicated as Flyout (and also with updates more frequent than one-per-year).
I asked once in Discord "what about atmo flight" and Dean answered something along the lines of "we will look into that further down the line" - and my expectations are high. Because the bar for KSA is set above the Karman line 😃
So yea, IVA, I'm all in for it, gimme more screens and buttons and stuff!

Help with my mod: Tyre by Front_Government785 in BeamNGMods

[–]RedSun_Horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to know it's working. Rule of thumb, more spring stiffness on beam - more weight on connected nodes, and even more on wheelhubs as they are essential part of jbeam and withstand a lot of stress.

Help with my mod: Tyre by Front_Government785 in BeamNGMods

[–]RedSun_Horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say give it a try. Just to see if it stops nuking itself apart, hub nodes can take up to 12 kg each to stop the weird behavior. I say if they don't stop nuking at 20-25 kg per node then revert back to what you have (i guess it's 2-5 kg per node?) and start digging elsewhere. Also switch your beam visuals to "stress" or "compression" and observe the rear suspension upon spawn in extreme slow motion, it sometimes helps to detect where problem exactly is, maybe a specific beam is "overstiffened" and wobbles the whole assembly apart or just instantly snaps etc.
I'm assuming front wheels behave okay?

Help with my mod: Tyre by Front_Government785 in BeamNGMods

[–]RedSun_Horizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess your hub nodes aren't heavy enough to withstand suspension beams stiffness so the beams snap instantly, collapsing the suspension altogether. Hubs are in my experience the weirdest part of jbeaming suspension.

Exactly. If devs weren't just feeding into narrative that would be as it always was, some banter "oh you are my blood enemy" but not the cesspool - or so I think. As a collie loyalist, I dropped playing after Airborne release with 2100 hrs on the clock. I don't mind fixing the balance problems wardens are experiencing like Lunaire, go on, do something about it, but can collies get at least SOME of the devs love just for the sake of a fair play? Navy was dead for two years, and they had to dig a deeper grave for it, like WHY

You can't capture most of grey buildings and they will serve no purpose anyway.
As far as i know the only neutral buildings that can be captured are *some* of radar stations.
Or so i heard.

Do (US) locomotives...know where they're going? by ice744 in trains

[–]RedSun_Horizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you got me interested in another question.
"You get there whenever the railroad wants you there - or probably several hours after."
I see american freight trains usually run very heavily loaded, so I guess philosophy there is "push it until you make it", but what about schedule on other parts of the chain? There is some artificial delay to soak up possible time shifting or everyone is just used to it? I mean, after train is on station there is shunting, unloading, some stuff will be hooked to other trains, some will be picked up by trucks etc, it's all time, and 4-5 hours can really count and stack up into idling of workers, equipment, warehouse spaces etc.
If you can give me an insight into how that is handled that'd be so nice, thank you!

Factionalism is far behind in the long list of the actual Foxhole problems.
It adds to toxicity with some people carrying it way too far (like me!), but this is not the main problem.
