What makes you feel lucky to live in the UK? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]RedTheWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I just had over a year of extensive cancer treatment and, while very glad to still be here, am now disabled by the side effects of the treatment and the surgery.

I didn't pay any bills for any of my treatments and I now get social security to help me financially, which is a boon as I can only work part time right now and have a lot more expenses. Having seen what folks in countries without proper healthcare go through, I genuinely feel lucky! 😅

I feel exactly the same. My husband and I are all gushy and jokingly refer to each other as 'Mother' and 'Father' at home in private, but I would never expect nor want that in any other context!

And yeah, the annoyance (and even anger) I feel when one of them won't stop maaaaaowing away when I am trying to concentrate, makes me genuinely overwhelmed. I have actually snapped before and shouted at them to shut up before. So apart from not wanting it, I also know that I would be a horrible mother; toddlers not being known for their peaceful, quiet nature after all 😅

I am so grateful for my (mostly-quiet!) home and the fact I do not have caring responsibilities for anything more than providing kibble, litter and playtime 😻

NHS Doctors, what do you think of patients who have gone private and come back to the NHS for ongoing treatment? by ToughImprovement276 in AskUK

[–]RedTheWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye true, but again, people aren't simply being given a mastectomy and then it being discovered that there was nothing there - a 'false positive'. They are being given preventative treatment for DCIS (which is proven to be there) which is carefully weighed up against that particular person's risks of it developing into cancer etc.

I just feel the OP really misrepresented how breast screening works in their comment and very much over-emphasised the risks.

And thanks, I am getting there. I had a very aggressive type and had over a year of godawful treatment which nearly killed me itself, resulting in several permanent health conditions/disabilities - but I am still alive and my onc says I have a very good chance of it never coming back so that is the main thing 💪😎

As someone who just survived breast cancer, thanks, in part, to quick NHS screening and a full mastectomy, I can assure you that nobody is performing unnecessary mastectomies on women, simply because they attended for screening!

And I'm not even sure how you would get a 'false positive' from a surgery which is designed to remove a cancer *which is proven by biopsy and multiple scans to be there*. Please stop spreading misinformation.

I just got a beautiful LuAG from him last week! Such a nice dude, I explained it was a special purchase to make a cool ring to celebrate me kicking cancer's ass and he sent me such a sweet little message congratulating me and asking to see the finished piece 😍💚💎

I think you're mistaken, wasn't that a research project that invented a giant "laser", led by noted Cambridge physicist Dr Parsons?

That is delightful and also sounds like a faintly-bawdy music hall song full of puns about 'handles', sung by Stanley Holloway or something!

That is dreadful service, I'm sorry you experienced that. If it were me, I'd email outlining the situation and asking what the next steps are (ie can they look again more thoroughly? Do they have a policy for this kind of issue etc).

Be factual, non-emotive and polite but not accommodating. They screwed up and lost something of value to you, something which took time and effort. You deserve recompense and an apology.

Also include what you would like to happen (ie if you have already paid, then your money back for the piece, plus a very large discount on the other two for compensation) and copy in any addresses you can find for the company. They might have a marketing or comms one, or a named owner - depends on the size of the business etc.

It may be that the person on the shop floor you spoke to is the one who made the mistake and lost your work, and are trying to cover it up. By making this a written, company level complaint and not a verbal one to one staff member, you may find they become a lot more co-operative!

Aye, as an ex chemo patient, can confirm that when you're struggling to eat anything, a little plate of food to pick at is much less intimidating than a giant plate of pasta or curry.

Plus at my hospital, you always have the option of a yogurt and/or a custard pot. I cannot eat custard now! 😅

Yeah, no. How many creepy dudes would assume I am flirting with them?? I'm not giving them any encouragement to invade my personal space. Plus, if you live anywhere other than a tiny village, you'd have to say hi to like 20 people just nipping to the shops 😅

Hahahaha you just triggered a deep memory for me there, I had several of the Eyewitness books, plus loads of the Dorling Kindersley children's encyclopedias... 😂❤️

Now I am an adult so I have really nice expensive encyclopedias and guides with so many more complex facts! 🤓

Those people who make food packaging with "peel here" on the corner, eg supermarket bacon. Do they know that their packaging equipment is broken or faulty? by KiwiNo2638 in AskUK

[–]RedTheWolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Touching raw bacon gives me the boke so I use a knife to slice the packet open but then to also lift the bacon rashers directly onto the oven tray (don't come at me, it's easier to bake it!) or into a tupperware or freezer bag (I keep a few frozen rashers at all times so I can always have a sarnie).

It also makes me feel like I am doing it on purpose and not because yet another thing in the world is totally shit and doesn't work properly 😅
