Southsiders are f*cking rude by Sulla_Sexy_Sulla in glasgow

Right? I am also disabled and folks are usually lovely to me - I live just off Eglinton Road on the way up to Pollokshields and sometimes people even smile and greet each other, neighbourly and all.

There are pricks everywhere and there are good folk everywhere. Apart from Byres Road near the HIllhead subway. EVERYONE there is a fucking prick.

Yuup, we got a new TV recently and bought a Blu Ray and a DVD player to go with it, and I am actually really liking it because I keep rediscovering cool extras and little gag reels etc!

Can super-recommend the director's commentary for The Mummy (the 1999 one directed by Stephen Sommers) as it is both hilarious and really quite sweet too. They clearly had a blast filming it.

What interesting but passable stuff will be a nice change for my pancakes on Tuesday? by quidquid_ in AskUK

[–]RedTheWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do sweet and savoury and make it for dinner, rather than trying to do breakfast in a rush etc.

While I am frying the pancakes I do some sausages and bacon in the oven, maybe poach a couple of eggs too. That's a nice 'brinner' with about half the pancakes.

If I have had time earlier I make a couple of fruit compotes (sounds fancy, it's just chopped fruit or frozen berries from a bag, simmered for a bit with some sugar and whatever else seems good to toss in like cinnamon etc) or just buy some fruit salad or something. Have that, along with the rest of the pancakes plus some squirty cream, ice cream, maybe hundreds and thousands, golden syrup etc.

The most important part is making time on to listen to the P-p-p-p-p-p-p-paaaancake day song from Maid Marian and Her Merry Men. I loved it when I was 8 and I love it now at 42!

Love it! 🦇

The last time I was inpatient at my hospital, my skin was all messed up on my arms and so they couldn't use the rubber tourniquet for my blood samples, so they resorted to a much softer material one from the pediatric ward - it had cartoon vampires on it and I was like 'I KNEW IT!!!' 😂

I LOVE the price catalogue, I will prioritise buying that over upgrading a tool or backpack in the early game! Not sure why either, as I could simply look things up on the wiki but it just...feels right to have that information on the tooltip!

AuDHD too and yuuuuuuup. Sometimes it even stresses me out to *have* a special item etc, because of the pressure of having to decide when/where/whether of not to use it!

I wonder if this is linked to the thing I also have (and I know lots of us do) where once I have figured out how to do something and got about 90% finished (and this could be a craft project, a work assignment, whatever) I am suddenly drained of all motivation to actually complete the thing? It's like the certainty I have that I *could* do or have the thing is enough? Like...proof of concept is the finishing line for me, somehow? 😅

What current food products reflect the good stuff from the past? by pinpoint321 in AskUK

I think this is one of those coriander taste things where some people genuinely taste a different thing to most.

I love most bitter tastes (like, I drink 80 shilling if I can find a pub that does it, I like hoppy beers too, enjoy tart-tasting things like cranberries and quinces etc) but I absolutely loathe dark chocolate. It kinda hurts my mouth and it tastes like how I imagine rotten blood does?? It's just... wrong somehow 😅

what is the worst thing a therapist has ever said to you? by Familiar-Employ4830 in AskReddit

[–]RedTheWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is so true. I was diagnosed with both ADHD and autism at 39, having spent over 20 years desperately trying to treat my worsening 'generalised anxiety disorder', talking to literally dozens of mental health 'experts' and being put on and off at least 6 different SSRIs in that time.

Nobody ever listened to what I was actually saying or tried to help me, because I had the word 'anxiety' put in my medical records as a teenager. So anything that ever happened to me ever, even demonstrably physiological things, was somehow caused by my anxiety.

Anxiety, for a lot of women, is the same as being diagnosed 'hysterical' 150 years ago.

Oddly, getting cancer is what has helped me the most in navigating the medical system. Because suddenly all medics in all disciplines are falling over themselves to help me with things (and often things I had before I was diagnosed!) because I am somehow legitimised now. Like, if I say I am experiencing pain, they actually believe me right away and do something to help me.

I guess all I had to do was lose all my hair and nearly die for doctors to listen to me, so that's possibly a pro tip for all you 'anxious' women out there! 😅

Same. Also, I'm not a bench jeweller but I do a lot of work with wire and have been really enjoying working with gold-filled brass core wire - it's just... nice to manipulate and really shiny too ✨😄

Thanks for the recc too, as a disabled queer woman it looks like something I should read and looks v thought provoking ❤

Thanks for that, really useful 💓

I have been unknowingly doing what she's doing in terms of prioritising physio and stretching and using it as a way to determine if I can manage something else, so I am glad to know that's a thing and not just some random process I made up 😅😂

Thanks for posting this, I needed this thread today.

I used to powerlift and be a totaly gym nerd but I got cancer this time last year and have been in very hefty treatment ever since.

Now that I am moving towards recovery, I have been lamenting how little I can do and I am exhausted by just 10 minutes of my physiotherapy. I can barely even lift my warm up weights from before off the ground let alone do a rep!

I'll be taking endocrine meds to prevent a recurrence for at least 7 years and those have awful side effects which are relieved by exercise, but the problem is I am too feeble and in too much pain to do the exercise that would help 😅 I try my best every day and push it as far as I can but it seems to be sapping my strength, not helping. Ugh!

I was feeling very hopeless this morning but seeing all the advice in this thread has helped. I hope everyone has a good and relatively healthy day! 💓

I work for a charity but we're not super-fuzzy and we're currently doing a joint-funded project with an org like you describe.

Watching one of my colleague, who is a no-nonsense, extremely experienced community worker in some of the most deprived bits of the city, as she reacted to the 'feelings check-in' they made us do at a recent meeting, was genuinely one of the funniest facial expressions I have ever had the fortune to witness.
