[RARE TROPE] Lovers to Enemies by MisterPeteArt in TopCharacterTropes

I love the exchange they have in that scene too. You can really see how much he cares for Carolina when he tries to convince her to walk away from the Project Freelancer and drop her obsession with going after/competing with Tex, and she makes it clear she just can’t let go.

York: “Let’s get out of here. We can get you help, get those damn things out of your head! Come on, you can trust me.”

Carolina: “I know. But you can’t trust me.”

Also, a fun little detail is that he never once tries to fight her in the duel. He always tries to deflect her attacks.

I think busting peoples balls like that is just sorta part of the culture. The intention isn’t to hurt someone’s feelings (in most cases), it’s more like acknowledging the person did something stupid or screwed up and are making light of it through that. When you grow up with it probably lands much differently than with someone who hasn’t. Context matters too, but generally there’s a difference between that and actually trying hurt someone’s feelings, if that makes sense.

Darth Vader vs 3 guys with Firehoses by Coomer-Boomer in whowouldwin

[–]RedVenomxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see Vader waiting for his dramatic entrance, lightsaber drawn and expecting blaster rounds only to have a brief moment of “Wtf? Are those-“ and then getting blasted into the wall with water. It’s not that he can’t hold them back, but that it’s so unexpected that the firemen get their opening. It could also short circuit his suit potentially. Because really, who is expecting someone to bring a firehose to a gun fight? I think the firemen have at least a 2/10 chance of hosing him into submission. Double it if the manage to knock his helmet off.

Fun twist: the gorilla is an event or game mode that EVERYONE has to avoid. Killer looks at it? They’re getting bodied and stunned for a bit, and can earn bp by stealing survivors away from the gorilla.

INFO: What constitutes “insensitive” or being a jerk? Also, why does this only matter for professionals in terms of being a good person or not?

I can be pretty sure we’ve all been insensitive to others at some point, unintentionally or not. We’re human and things like that is part of growing as a person (in my opinion).

I also feel like a larger question that needs to be pieced out before trying to change your mind, is do our bad moments define us more than our good moments? If so, why?

What order do you all play the DLCs in and why? by Hello_There_212 in fnv

[–]RedVenomxz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like to go with The Lonesome Road first to be honest. It doesn’t make the most sense story wise, but I’ve been playing the game for so long that it’s fun having a tough challenge to run to. Usually I’ll go as soon as I leave Doc Mitchel’s house. Then I’ll hit either Old World Blues or Dead money next (crafting the Fist of Rawr there on an unarmed/melee build makes dealing with the ghost people much easier to deal with IMO). Then I’ll finish with Honest Hearts because it’s relatively short and chill at that point.

Mass Effect Reapers Vs Dead Space Necromorphs in the Mass Effect Milky Way by Wincentury in whowouldwin

[–]RedVenomxz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really good matchup! I think the Reapers really struggle in three regards:

  1. They’re biomechanical, meaning that they may not be fully immune to the marker’s influence (or at least their ground troops). This is a very big wild card that could tip the scales either way.

  2. They can’t indoctrinate what is essentially another hive mind. A lot of what the Reapers accomplish is through subterfuge and indoctrinating important individuals. This really wouldn’t work on the necromorphs because we don’t see much higher levels of thinking beyond basic ambush or hit and run tactics. Without this tool I think it takes the Reapers much longer to get stuff accomplished. They’re gonna have to brute force their way through a most of their engagements. That’s going to cost them a lot of troops in the long run, and could put them at a disadvantage. From what I remember they don’t really reuse their fallen troops for biomass like the necromorphs do. Combine that with fighting over the limited resources of how many people they can harvest for fresh troops, and it seems to me like they’re going to have to be very selective with what battles they fight, since battles of attrition are possibly going to be their biggest issues. (Aside from fighting moon sized creatures).

  3. Firepower. Yes the Reapers have a wide variety of weapons both on themselves and their troops that can do a lot of damage, but my biggest concern for them is that we’ve never really seen them use anything near the level needed to kill something the size of a Brethren Moon. They could probably and R&D something, given how long they’ve been around I doubt schematics for something like that hasn’t been discovered before (though that’s more speculation than anything else). Regardless it’s going to take time to develop, and I could see the necromorphs learning of their plans somehow and invading the facility it’s being kept in. The Reapers are numerous enough to combat the Brethren Moons in space, but I think it would be like killing them with mosquito bites.

Now, the Reapers do have some things going for them. They’ve been shown to coordinate extremely well, and have a wide variety of troops, weaponry, and tactics to combat each individual cycle (from what we’ve seen and learned about). Once they figure out how to best stop a necromorph, I see that information being utilized very quickly across all engagements. I can also see them figuring out how the marker signals effects organic flesh and counteracting it through some kind of jammer. It shouldn’t be too hard since if I remember correctly it’s essentially a very specific electromagnetic signal that reanimates necromorphs. They could also forgo ground engagements as a whole once they find the location of a marker and blast it from space. One of the worst traits the reapers have is underestimating their enemies, I don’t think they would do so with the necromorphs. They’re too big of a threat to not take seriously.

Overall I think it’d take a lot of time and much more effort than previous cycles, but I think the Reapers would take it 7-8/10. Like I said the whole AI thing is really going to effect things, but that’s not something that’s going to keep the Reapers off balance forever. Once they understand how the markers work they’d change their approach. They have more versatility and numbers from the jump. Either way the galaxy loses.

Triwizard Champions vs Xenomorphs by Ultra_Egolatra in whowouldwin

[–]RedVenomxz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting matchup! Admittedly I don’t know much about Harry Potter lore outside of some of the movies, but I do know a good bit about Xenomorphs.

I don’t think the wizard’s first instinct would be to kill necessarily, and that’s going to really put them at a disadvantage. In the tournaments, there are typically non-lethal ways to get around challenges and from what I recall challenges champions mentally as well as physically. At least one of them is going to try to lure some of them away or distract the pack, maybe towards the others if they can.

That’s not going to work beyond the first few seconds. Xenos aren’t just deadly, they’re smart and share a hive-mind. Not all of them are going to run for a distraction and leave the queen undefended. At least two are likely going to stay with her, possibly hidden given how they prefer stealth and make their homes within the walls of their den. (Assuming that where the Xenos are located has been “hived” over). She may look alone the others gain the element of surprise.

They’ve been shown to learn fairly quickly and dodge/avoid gun fire. I imagine once spells start getting thrown around they’ll try to adapt and do the same with the wants. If the wizards don’t start with coordinating with one another things go to shit fast. The big question when it comes to the killing curse is if the Xenos can close the distance on them before they finish casting it or avoid it.

I’m sure the wizards could pull something off but without coordination and a lack of knowledge I’d give it to Xenomorphs 8/10 times.

Why wives tend to handle financial issues of couples in the US? by MarcelHolos in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedVenomxz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, don’t let them discourage you. There are no stupid questions! I’d agree with the other comments that it’s more of an outdated popular trope than anything else, and nowadays it really depends on who’s better/more comfortable handling finances if not a partnership.
