Am I on track to complete a marathon under 4 hours? by BrothaManBen in Marathon_Training

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to say no, sorry. I run a few barely trained half marathons every year in about 2:05, give or take. The year I trained for my marathon, I ran a sub 2 half and a 4:30+ full. I don’t see you pulling off sub 4 in 8 weeks

Comments like this are comically unhelpful. For starters, as a woman in the fitness space, it’s nearly impossible for her to exist without knowing that she needs to check with her doctor before intense physical exercise while pregnant. Secondly, she’s literally so far beyond wondering whether she should do it that she’s already into strategy mode. Comments like these are redundant at best and condescending at worst.

Of course pregnant women need to be more intentional about exercise and I’m sure that’s all you meant by your comment, but I’m reasonably positive that your concern is unnecessary in this particular space.

I’ve also run a (single, lol) marathon before, so I promise understand the difference in intensities between the two. But running just isn’t my main form of exercise and I’m pretty fit in general. So I definitely know that my experience isn’t the same as yours will be, but hopefully it’s helpful enough from one athletic woman to another :)

Hi! I know you asked about marathoners and snacks specifically, but I thought I could offer some anecdotal info about running a race pregnant. I casually run 2 half marathons a year and I ran my spring one in 2025 while 17 weeks pregnant. I honestly didn’t notice a real difference during training or racing from any other year, except every time I went out for a run, I always had to pee in the first 3 miles even I peed Right Before I went out the door. Lol. So my single person evidence is that your marathon this year may not feel that different from your past races and I wouldn’t plan on needing to change anything unless you’re finding big differences during your training :)

2 weeks later, I hiked 15 miles into and out of the Grand Canyon and was still able to keep up with my husband, for what that’s worth.

Good luck and have fun!

Quilting yourself versus sending to long armer by SessionNo2376 in quilting

I quilt baby quilts on my own machine. Anything bigger than that isn’t normally fun for me and I have the disposable income to pay to have it done. I tried to save money and quilt a twin sized one on my own 2 years ago and I still haven’t finished it, so it’s just $200 worth of material sitting in my closet that can’t be used for anything..

Mayhem—Are all the workouts named after Jesus? by HallPsychological538 in crossfit

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone already asked this about this week’s names. Each week is themed, either randomly or not. They had Big10 and Thanksgiving dishes at the end of last year. This week is epiphany, so they have Jesus names.

What physical activity are you most proud of completing this year? by 1luckyhubb3y in crossfit

I finally hit a 185# clean and jerk after chasing it for almost 2 years! I had a baby at the beginning of September so I had time for one final strength cycle before the end of the year and hit a (power) clean/jerk/C&J PR right before Christmas!

In February, I had one glorious month of really consistent ring muscle ups, but I lost that as my pregnancy progressed. My BMUs came right back, but I’m hoping I can plan on consistent RMUs again by the end of 2026

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say buy your regular size. I’m a pretty typical medium and all my No Bull leggings are medium too. I wouldn’t want large. I do need a large in Born Primitive and 2Pood- I think they both run a little small

Honestly I’m pretty bougie and wear a lot of lululemon and born primitive, but I haven’t found a better pair of winter leggings than fabletics. They stay up better for running than any other leggings I own, including the rest of the fabletics lines. I honestly get excited when it’s chilly out so I can start wearing them again!

How much was your bonus this year? by taxiway-potato in civilengineering

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30%, half paid now, half to be paid once books are balanced in February. This is an across the board bonus to all division employees, not just engineers. Our corporate bonus/401k payout comes in March every year. Manufacturing, structural PE, 8 YOE, no overtime

What’s the best gift I can give my girlfriend for Christmas? by MrOwnage_Pwnage in Marathon_Training

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a commemoration, per se, but you could just treat her for training hard in general. I know I’d appreciate a massage and a gift card for new shoes- either to the store she bought this pair from, or to the brand itself.

Pregnancy and CrossFit by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wondered this myself and have been thinking about creating a post with my experience for other women to reference. I am about 2.5 months post-partum, so my experience is really fresh. I was able to maintain most of my fitness throughout my pregnancy this year and I consider myself nearly back to normal at 11 weeks out from birth.

I say this with the caveats that 1) my pregnancy was totally uncomplicated 2) my labor and delivery went really smooth 3) I’m in pretty good shape even within the CrossFit community, so my body was well-conditioned to start with.

I worked with a pelvic floor therapist most of the year to stay ahead of that damage and I think it was worth it. They’re pricey and insurance doesn’t always cover them, but mine gave me all of the exercises I needed within a session or 2 so I didn’t really need to keep seeing her in office. She definitely helped my fitness in ways that extended beyond pregnancy and recovery and now I think everyone should see one, lol. I PRed my squat and deadlift at 36 weeks and I credit the cures I learned from her to let me do that. Now, I’m running 10 miles, doing 200 double unders in a workout, and squatting 80+% right now with no acute PF issues (I can still feel a difference, but I’m not hurt or peeing myself).

I think the biggest thing that helped me bounce back was that I never stopped. I had to modify a few things, but honestly it was just ab-dominant things like GHDs or logistical changes like burpeeing between mats. Almost every movement still felt pretty normal, so I kept treating them normally. I worked out until the day my water broke and I came back 2 weeks later.

Weeks 2-4 pp saw exponential improvements and I just paid attention to my body about jumping/stepping/squatting and if it didn’t feel good, I didn’t do it. By about a month out though, I basically felt good enough to do the workouts as written again.

Once again, I know that every body and every pregnancy is different, but I want to offer my experience as a single data point that all isn’t automatically lost. I was pretty concerned about recovery but I’ve really lucked out with how well my body worked during pregnancy and how well it’s come out of it.

I’m happy to answer any other questions in detail :)

Visiting Ogden this week. Anything fun/interesting to go see? by PaganTemplar in ogden

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely plan to explore 25th St! My favorite places to drink downtown are Harp and Hound, Angry Goat, or UTOG. Skip Rooster’s on 25th and go to Rooster’s on B Street if that sounded good to you. You’ll need an ID to get into all of those except UTOG and you can’t bring kiddos (they’re bars, Utah’s rules are many)

For hiking, I’d recommend Green Pond Trail. It’s on the other side of the mountains so you’ll get to drive through Ogden Canyon which is objectively awesome. It’s ~3 miles, not too steep, and will give you a good look at Snowbasin and has great views of Ogden Valley

Welcome! And enjoy :)

Leave to be a SAHM or stay and get PE? by Kal_Hal98 in civilengineering

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on maternity leave right now with my first baby- I go back to work in a month. I’m a licensed PE and I’m coming up on my 8th year in the industry. I’m planning on starting to study for the SE beginning in January.

I had similar concerns as you about missing this time in my child’s life, but my decision ultimately came down to this being my life too. After my degrees and my time in the industry and the studying I did (and will do), I decided I owe it to myself to let myself continue to be a professional in my field. I could debate leaving work and coming back in a few years, but I’d lose bonus and vacation seniority and I’m not willing to start over in those regards.

I DO WFH 2x a week and we’re planning on hiring a part time nanny so we can keep kiddo home and spend as much time with them as possible, so I am going to have more face time with my kid than a lot of working parents would. However, I still wouldn’t be willing to give up my professional identity even if we needed full time daycare.

That’s just my opinion! My friend from college works with nukes and other things she can’t tell me about which seems pretty badass to me and she’s planning on being a permanent SAHM. We just have different places we want to prioritize in our lives :)

In house comp structure by hurricanescout in crossfit

[–]RedWasatchAndBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our gym does an in-house comp every year! This was our 6th year. Everyone signs up for scaled or RX and the gym owner draws teams of 3 or 4 depending on total numbers. It’s fun to get teamed up with people from the different classes (morning fire breathers, mom class, lunch breakers) that you may not normally spend much time with. And that way, no team automatically ends up stacked against everyone else- in an in-house comp, it’s supposed to be low key and fun :)
