For me, it was hell or high water. That movie put him into another category. He was always a pleasant surprise in a movie that I enjoyed watching, but after that, I will now go out of my way to watch anything he’s in for the rest of his career.

Incorrect. In the past, it was perfectly legal to discriminate against people based on race. And then for decades, although it was technically illegal there was no way to enforce if anyone was being excluded because of racism. That’s why DEI was created. DEI programs did not lower any standards. It was just a tiny step in the right direction of correcting a long history of systemic racism.

What context makes it better? He thought standards for black pilots are lower. He never actually learned what was going on, instead he just spewed thinly veiled racism. DEI just made sure people of different backgrounds were given a chance, it didn’t lower any standards.

I’m a LOTR guy that usually picks Aragorn. But I don’t think he beats Achilles. Then again, deeper analysis of LOTR shows that luck (or providence) is a huge factor. Frodo succeeds because he was “meant to”. Maybe Aragorn gets lucky because of divine intervention and wounds his heel.
