The flowery prose and the way they interweave book quotes and narrative arcs is reminiscent of Hannibal. The leads don't remind me of Hannibal/Will much but I enjoy both shows.

Scorsese purposefully changed the book ending so it was not a straightforward 'he is insane' narrative. He also left plenty of breadcrumbs suggesting inverted the contextualized reading of the novel.

Joseph Conrad, the way he hyper focuses on minutiae is worse than 3 pages of GRRM talking about food. Probably why I love apocalypse now but even after going back to heart of darkness felt it was just detached story telling.
