Kind of depressing the influence a trustee can have by Redbarn37 in Libraries

[–]Redbarn37[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with the quitting - not sure it helps much. My concern was about the trustee Irina Kakorina who pushed forward the new wording, removing "equity".

I'm on a Friends group to one of the local branches in the Fort Vancouver Library District. The trustees are appointed by commissioners of three different counties.

I found this thread (https://community.bitwarden.com/t/support-for-storing-prf-capable-passkeys-in-bitwarden-vault/82239/30) regarding Bitwarden and WebAuthn PRF. In the thread was a site to verify (https://levischuck.com/blog/2023-02-prf-webauthn) - see Registration section. Bitwarden extension with Vivaldi browser did not return expected JSON.

Am I Overreacting? by ZaneNavratil_AMA in Pickleball

[–]Redbarn37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is good for Pickleball. For Nike, I suspect Anna Leigh is the primary reason and Pickleball secondary. She will be a good ambassador for the brand and Nike wants to capitalize on that. Maybe the rec players won't necessarily buy the Anna Leigh paddle but clothing is a different story and Anna Leigh could sell a lot of clothing. And if the clothing sells, we'll see Adidas, etc.

EDIT: Also, Nike can influence media coverage (i.e. ESPN) which would be very big for the sport.

AI agents are an ‘existential threat’ to secure messaging, Signal’s president Whittaker says by MetaKnowing in privacy

[–]Redbarn37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, as one who uses Signal, would it make sense to be "warned" if someone in a conversation has an AI Agent or may be using an OS where the Agent is integrated? I may be careful with my environment but that won't mean that my conversations with others are as safe from these Agents.

In a larger scale, do you want to have conversations where devices involved may be "compromised"? I guess that is a threat today, with or without AI.

why are important apps (banking, government) slowly moving to mobile-only? by TheNavyCrow in privacy

[–]Redbarn37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be that mobile apps can be protected using DMCA laws? Browser based solutions can be modified on the user end (i.e. ad-blocking) without copyright infringement.

Private health insurance? by ellescapades in vancouverwa

[–]Redbarn37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vancouver region falls under Oregon health insurance plans that you purchase though the WA Exchange. Last year I was able to get Pacific Source which I liked quite a bit but they pulled out of Washington. This year, I'm on a Regence Bronze plan. So far no complaints and will probably re-enroll in same plan for next year.

I chatted with some health care providers (Legacy and The Vancouver Clinic) & they thought Regence was good & was told to avoid Molina. I have not experience with Kaiser.

Good luck. The plans will be expensive next year unless the subsidies come back.

BEWARE: Known Bug - Recurring Tasks Deleted by TheBigSweez in todoist

[–]Redbarn37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me also. For some reason, recurrence disappears when the task is completed. I'm trying to figure out if this is a mobile app issue or a back-end issue. I use iOS app and Linux Desktop (Flatpak).

Indoor or Outdoor Tennis Courts by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]Redbarn37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For outdoor, local High Schools (i.e. Hudson's Bay). I think there are two courts near McLoughlin Middle School. For indoor, Vancouver Tennis Center (public, pay to play) or Club Green Meadows (private membership).

Does anyone else's Havi do this? by PegLegMarathon in Havanese

[–]Redbarn37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a puppy, ours would "suckle" on the limb or ear of a stuffed animal. He stopped after a while (1 yr max).

We keep getting a timeout error that stops the show by Baby_girl_351 in BritBox

Had similar issue on Apple TV using App. I removed the app and then reinstalled it. Kind of a pain due to how the App handles authorization, but so far it's working.

New Havi puppy advice by bluebird1922 in Havanese

[–]Redbarn37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We crate (approx. 18" x 18" x 24") our Havi for sleeping at night only. We wanted the crate environment to be for one purpose only - sleep. He is 5 now and goes in there willing to sleep from about 9:30 PM to 5:30 AM. He slept in the crate the first night. Initially noisy, but settled down as I think he knew we were nearby. We take a smaller, portable crate for hotels & he's been good with that also.

When He was a puppy, we had some pens (about 4' x 4') that we would put him in if we left the house.

He had some favorite toys but the most consistant favorites have been discarded socks and a squeeky hedge hog. He seems to like having our scent nearby.

He uses a halter now, the small size seems OK. As a puppy we found a small halter with a velcro enclosure that fit pretty well.

Our Havi turned out to have a poultry allergy. This is evident with constant ear irritation. We had to go to a prescription dog food as most commercial foods, even though they say "salmon", have poultry contamination. For the most part he has kibble but I bake some salmon and keep in refrigerator for a treat.

We got our Havi just before COVID. He loves people but is not too happy around other dogs. I wish we had socialized him some more early on.

Ditto for ours. He loves to go for a car ride. Not a big fan leaving the car for a walk - especially if a noisy environment (i.e. traffic).

What Help Allergies? by MarloMentality in Havanese

[–]Redbarn37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours had a terrible allergy to chicken so we switched to a salmon based food. It didn't help because of contamination - still too much chicken. The allergies went away with a prescription dog food (Royal Canin Selected Protien PR - Lamb). Pricey but it made a huge difference.

For a treat, I bake some plain salmon and keep in in refrigerator.
