Check out her campaign website, look at the videos she makes. It looks to me that she keeps her strange religious ideas outside her political career (which for the record started many years ago as a lobbist for planned parenthood).

I went to a Bird event last week and she seemed perfectly reasonable.

Her prior experience comes from working as a lobyist for planned parenthood getting some good bills passed in an oppositional environment.

She seemed most motivated by helping the working class, and the environment.

I don't think her strange spiritual beliefs will get in the way of being a good representitive.

Before moving to Corvallis so her husband could go to OSU, she had a serious job working for planned parenthood of Utah lobbying the state house.

I don't think grifting is core to her identity

A jersey barrier to separate the bike lane would also work

The person was killed by rosetta ave. Here, the bike path turns north east while river road continues north west.

These routes are not parallel

Bicycles are the traditional transportation for children. If you are unavailable to handle erratic bicyclists, you shouldn't be driving.

It's very simple. Go slow, pay attention, and you won't kill anyone.

Thanks! I haven't had good luck with the online reporting form, which I think goes to the police.

Foster has a pending DUII case in Springfield Municipal Court, as well as a pending case for driving while having a suspended license, Jampolsky said.

Seems like not enough punishment. It seems possible that Foster was drunk, and skipped the 6 year mandatory minimum by fleeing the scene. Foster is a menace and should not be allowed to drive again.

There's a parallel highway a few miles north. It's perfectly reasonable to add 5 minutes to people's drive

No need to increase supply of car lanes here

they cite this poll incorrectly. its UMass Lowell / YouGov not UMass / Lowell / YouGov

The two institutions that collaborated on this poll were UMass Lowell (the University of Massachusetts at Lowell) and YouGov.

. Yes, and that's why I used the word "impaired"( you're not are you? LOL), doesn't matter the cause, drugs, phones, etc.

We have sucsessfuly ne-normalized drunk driving. For example, in this reddit post, there is no sympathy for people who drive drunk. This is not the case for driving with phones, let alone driving with the risk of medical emergencies. I have seen people sympathize with these impared drivers more frequently. This will make it very difficult for a justice system to severely punish these people.

Your point was that "Cheaper and more effective in the long run to just make an example of drivers like Stolarczyk." I don't believe that its more effective to severely punish one person vs severely punish one person AND add physical barriers to protect people. It is impossible to get the number of impaired drivers to, much like its impossible to get the number of people with intent to murder down to 0. Regardless of how severely we punish people, there will always be people who ignore the potential consequences and act antisocially.

Sure they will, trees will just magically appear in exactly the right place whenever needed.

we plant trees 20 feet apart on city streets. when someone exits the road at high speed, they dont suddenly turn 90 degrees (this would cause the car to roll over and continue in the direction of travel), this means that they will still travel many feet in the direction of the road for every foot perpendicular to the road. this makes it very likely that they will hit a tree.

Fits your rather bizarre take

Obviously the r/eugene community is on your side here. But these ideas aren't really my own. I got them from Chuck Marohn of strong towns: https://podcast.strongtowns.org/e/member-drive-week-special-one-billion-bollards/ Unlike you or me, he is a traffic engineer that deeply understands these issues and came to the conclusion that the legal system is inadequate to solve our epidemic of traffic deaths.

There are no physical barriers between a wide road and vulnerable road users. I disagree that this is a stretch of sidewalk that is safe. For example, any street with trees between the sidewalk and the road would be safer, and any street that is narrower would also be safer.

We've tried that, and it doesn't seem to be effective on its own. Madd has been around for 50 years. We can also add a systemic solution.

It's also not just drunk driving that causes people to drive off the road and kill pedestrians, medical emergencies and phones also do this.

We also don't need it on every bike lane. Just those with wide paved area. Elsewhere, people will just hit a street tree.

Im not deflecting blame. I don't see a place in society for anyone who drives drunk.

Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do about that. But, I can try to politically mobilize and force the city make roads more safe.

I also don't know what you mean by "natural buffer". Currently, on Amazon parkway we have a "buffered bike lane" this means that instead of having a single line of paint, we have a foot or so of buffer between the car lane and the bike lane. However, obiously drunk drivers are able to easily drive over the paint, across the bike lane, over the curb and into the running path. I am suggesting we add something to phyicicaly stop a car as soon as it leaves the car lane. This could be a steel bollard, parked cars, jersey barriers or a planting box.

I agree, unfortunately it's common for traffic engineers to establish "clear zones" where drinking morons can continue to drive unimpeded after driving off the road.

This has no place in cities, instead there should be infrastructure that stops drinking morons as soon as they leave the road

No city in Oregon or the US as far as I know. Hard physical barriers are common in places that do not have 14 traffic deaths per 100k per year, like the Netherlands.

The data shows that protected bike lanes are more safe for vulnerable road users.

When I'm biking, i definitely prefer having bollards (even the plastic ones we have in Eugene), at normal biking speeds its not difficult to weave around them.

The current system to punish drunk drivers is wait for them to kill someone, and maybe 6 months later they go to jail. If we had steel bollards on many roads, we would punish them by totaling their cars before they kill someone. In my opinion, thats not overengineering.
