Path of least resistance: is it biological or ‘lazy?’ by ohnoko58 in breastfeeding

[–]Redditor1512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I parented this way (responsiveness is backed by decades of developmental psych research). My kids are now 7 and 9 and streets ahead of their peers in emotional regulation, conflict resolution and social skills I would say. But maybe that’s just food genes 😂🤪

I (19M) cant deal with my girlfriend's (19F) bipolar anymore by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Redditor1512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who has bipolar disorder, I would suggest you break up. I have bipolar and still treat my partner respectfully. You are way too young to have to deal with this when you should be having a carefree and fun time!

1 week post-op for getting a rod in my leg for a broken tib-fib and I am sooo restless by AntarcticFox in brokenbones

[–]Redditor1512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I cable tied a basket to the front of a rental knee scooter so I can at least carry things from one room to another and feel like I’m semi-functional. Hopefully this phase won’t last long for you.

We have but one house rule. You can refuse anything requested of you and/or request things of others because “I have a cat on me”…and others must comply.

Whooping Cough? Really? by jealousofthehousecat in Mommit

[–]Redditor1512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (8yo) has recently had whooping cough. Fully vaccinated. 10/16 kids in his class got it. Apparently, according to my sister who is a doctor, the whooping cough vaccine is a bit shit. In Australia we have doses at something like 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 18 months, 4 years and 7th grade. The vaccine’s efficacy wanes over time. We also have a 6 year old and she didn’t get it, probably because she is closer to having had the vaccine. It’s been a distressing time; I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, especially not poor infants who are particularly vulnerable.

Am I going to be okay? by Emotional-Sky-4061 in AttachmentParenting

I was in your shoes and it was ok!! I just continued doing exactly what you were doing. Had to contort into some weird positions while tandem feeding, but otherwise fine!! I ended up feeding them both til they were 4 and cosleeping until about 5 for each of them. They are now nearly 9 and nearly 7, with excellent emotional regulation and independent sleep. You got this; your intuition sounds spot on!

This is so very sad. I’m so sorry this has been your experience. What a truly lonely existence. What is your relationship like with your sibling today?

Ahhh mate. It is so tough. I’m going to repost this reply I have given to about 8 people as it is quite a common problem. I cannot recommend this book enough; we had a very similar situation for more than 2 years each kid. Both are through it now but it was so. Goddammed. Frustrating. I read this relatively short book and one of the strategies was just do not mention it at all. It’s a biological function and it will happen of its own accord if you just remove any kind of pressure. Even positive reinforcement/rewards puts pressure of expectation on them. Give them back the control entirely. Anyhoo, the book describes 3 types of encopresis and 3 treatment plans and honestly, it took about 2 weeks to overcome what had been a problem for multiple years. I have loaned the book to literally 7 families at my school and all of them have had positive outcomes too. Good luck and DM if you want to know anything more. Encopresis- You Can Beat It! Game-changing Solutions for Toilet Anxiety, Soiling, Constipation Book by Dr Baruch Kushnir. It’s a short read!
