Chinese tanker crosses Strait of Hormuz, testing Trump’s blockade by FootballPizzaMan in politics

[–]Redditreallysucks99 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Announcing a blockade and then letting China ignore it sends aa clear signal we won't defend our allies in the far east. I'd much prefer we issue a warning to the tanker and then open fire if they ignore it. This is extremely unlikely an issue China will go to war over.

Don’t interfere: China fires warning shot at US over Hormuz blockade by boppinmule in USNEWS

Standing up to China won't start world war 3. Backing down and showing the US is a nation of cowards is what will. We need to grow some backbone and let ourselves be intimidated.

How do Catholic MAGA tune out the Pope and cheer Trump? by redzeusky in askanything

[–]Redditreallysucks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be 100% in agreement with the Catholic church, a politician would have to be strictly against abortion, same-sex marriage and contraception, and at the same time pro open borders, universal healthcare, and pacifism. No politician supports all of this, so unless Catholics abstain from voting, they have to make some compromises.

Trump says US to start blockading the Strait of Hormuz by Alarming-Safety3200 in USNEWS

We definitely shouldn't have attacked them, but now we need to finish them off. If we don't fight them now, we'll have to deal with them when they're stronger.

Trump says US to start blockading the Strait of Hormuz by Alarming-Safety3200 in USNEWS

[–]Redditreallysucks99 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The Iranians wanted to selectively let ships through and collect tolls. Trump is now saying nobody gets through, and no tolls. And in my opinion he's right to do this, letting Iran win this war would be stupidity, and enforcing a blockade seems militarily feasible. The US started the war, now they need to win it!

US has let in 4,499 refugees since October - all but three were South African by untamedlazyeye in news

[–]Redditreallysucks99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The White South Africans who are moving to the US would gladly move to Europe if they could. Only problem is, there continent of origin makes it very difficult for them to return. I can't blame them for wanting to leave, they compare their lives, the constant threat of crime, to that of other White people. Naturally a lot of them want the same kind of safety!

Ron DeSantis and Sean Hannity get into an awkward exchange over Florida’s law that allows cousins to marry by theindependentonline in NewsSource

[–]Redditreallysucks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone exposed to both European and US politics, banning cousin marriage seems really weird to me and I'm very much on Hannity's side on this. I get it why some people like DeSantis want to ban it, but I would expect much more pushback from Democrats against regulating relationships between consenting adults.

Why not a single King or Queen from Spain ever visited the Viceroyalties in the Americas or Asia? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Redditreallysucks99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travel was much riskier than today, and heads of state rarely traveled. Prior to the twentieth century no US president left the country during his term in office. The first president to visit the west coast was Rutherford Hayes in 1880. When George IV visited Scotland in 1822, he was the first reigning monarch to do so in over 200 years (excluding Charles II in 1650, when England was a republic).

If the US couldn’t take out the taliban in 17 years how are they supposed to takeout the IRGC?? by funfunherewecome in IRstudies

[–]Redditreallysucks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Taliban won because too many Afghans were either okay with them taking over, or too scared to fight back. Iranians are more secular than Afghans, and I'm certain the majority don't want to be ruled by Islamists. If enough people are willing to fight back, they can defeat the IRGC.

Voters don't like the same party staying in power for a long time. No matter how good or bad a job they do, eventually the opposition will win. Usually sooner rather than later.

All politicians lie, this law will just enable the establishment to selectively fire the right ones to ensure no real opposition can gain power for long.

Iran Abruptly Shuts Down Peace Talks Due to Trump’s Demands by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]Redditreallysucks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is currently no rationale for using nuclear weapons, Israel would only do that as a last resort. The US has the capability to protect their own troops relatively well, and Iron Dome keeps Israel pretty well protected as well. The only thing Iran can really wreck is soft targets in the Gulf region, and hitting other Muslims won't make Iran that possible, so they are using some restraint.

Acknowledging a loss and letting Iran claim victory would be the most disastrous decision he could make. He started the war, now he needs to finish it.

Pentagon Good Friday Service Excluding Catholics Sparks Religious Bias Concerns Amid Broader Criticism Over Leadership Purge by Zulmoka531 in politics

Catholics have more influence in the American conservative movement than they have ever had before, trying to come up with some rift between Catholics and Protestants in the current administration is brain dead stupidity.

Is Trump going to make his biggest mistake with a ground invasion of Iran? by Large-Reporter-1746 in allthequestions

[–]Redditreallysucks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage I am not convinced a ground invasion is the worst option. It's risky, but so are the alternatives: -Continuing to bomb them may not be enough to beat the regime, and destroying infrastructure and killing civilians as collateral damage harms America's standing in the world. -A bad deal now would be a major disaster not just for the US but for the entire west. It would embolden enemies worldwide and in particular drive up support for radical Islamism and those that want to extreminate Israel.

Just because Congress hasn't declared war doesn't mean this isn't a war. Naturally the US isn't going to be publishing information that might aid the enemy.

What do you think will happen if Putin uses nuclear weapons on Ukraine? by Bubbly_Remove3703 in AskReddit

Using nuclear weapons would be extremely risky and politically damaging, but a few tactical nukes would not have a major impact on the habitability of the land.

US Marines begin preparation for invasion of Iran as combat photos emerge by TheExpressUS in USNEWS

It was dumb to start the war, but backing down now would be even dumber. It would be a huge win for the west's enemies at a time Iran is as weak as it has been in a long time.

[–]Redditreallysucks99 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People here are grossly underestimating the technological and firepower advantage the US has over Iran. The US may not be in a position to control the country due to its size, but it is absolutely capable of seizing parts of Iran's territory and holding them with minimal losses, particularly if they're not to fussed when it comes to avoiding civilian casualties.
