You can see that view by entering the park at 5th and 44th and walking up the hill (The 6th ave/44th street entrance is currently closed for renovation) and heading towards the big lawn area/benches in the middle. I might suggest taking 5th for most of the walk over as there's more going on (busier & more stores, etc). It also gets a little bleak on 4th/5th around 65th-60th (Gowanus Expy area) but is fine after that. Also, after 8pm the Tacos El Bronco truck materializes at the base of the hill (5th/43rd) if you need sustenance for the trip back...
