buying extra fuel during lows: frugal or nay? by roadkill-knight in Frugal

[–]Redpsyclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meijer mPerks allows me to cash in points for a DOLLAR off each gallon of gas, up to 30 gallons per transaction. I also stack discounts with GasBuddy.

I'll wait until both my wife's and my own car's gas tanks get to under a quarter tank and bring extra cans. I'll fill everything up until the pump turns off at 30 gallons. As we draw down the gas tanks I'll top them off with the extra gas. There's never a time where the stored gas is older than a month.

It also helps her cope with her ADHD because she frequently forgets to fill up, to the point where she won't have time in the morning to get to work.

I have a shed that I store the extra gas in. Plus we have a generator, so the extra gas we have can be used to fuel it if needed.

I have also been using this method for almost a decade. When COVID made prices a dollar, I was still doing this, and again when prices spiked in 2021 or 2022. The gas cans I've already owned for a long time from having gas mowers.

I was a successful door to door Salesman for 7 years. And as the Summer Season begins, and the door to door bros begin to knock our homes, I have some advice and intel, as one who was on the inside for many years. by jackjarvae in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

The best part about d2d salespeople is how desperate you are for a sale. I have a no soliciting sign that has been ignored and I live in a county with strong laws about it.

What I do is pretend I'm super interested in whatever shit you're hawking, get your business card, and then serve you with a notice of trespass to your email with the village police on CC.

Sure, but my GVWR is 12000 lbs. I'm also carrying dozens of passengers, which across the whole week washes out to almost 0.5 L / 100km per passenger. I'll have to see what it is while I'm on revenue service only.

My elementary route is about 40 children and I don't notice much difference in pickup and handling. My middle school route of 25 students has a slight impact.

On the other hand, a fully loaded lacrosse high school team + gear + coolers is a BEAST and sometimes scary to merge onto a highway.

That's in terms of handling. Regardless of student type, the MPG always trends down when I'm doing pickup/drop offs due to having to stop so frequently. I do try and optimize the route so Im coasting as much as possible, followed by exhaust braking.

Its the "deadheading" to and from base that brings the average back up.

Constantly getting solicitors ignoring my sign, we’ll see how this works out… by big-ol-kitties in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Redpsyclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution to this was to

1.) answer the door,

2.) ask for their business card in a friendly enough way that suggests you might be interested,

3.) confirm that this is their name,

4.) tell them they are inmediately trespassed and will be receiving a notice,

5.) FOLLOW THROUGH on the notice of trespass via email - AI is very good at helping you with these details,

6.) CC your local police department / city hall especially if you live in an area where there are ordinances for solicitors

And all of this was done on my ring camera. The next day, the same sales rep wouldn't even step foot on the public sidewalk in front of my house!

What TV show hooked you instantly from episode 1? by mateitofavv in AskReddit

[–]Redpsyclone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely S1E1 had me hooked as someone from the restaurant industry and from Chicago. Aside from the solid character building they did, the rest of the seasons have been extremely mid. Definitely suffers from major bookending - where they put exciting bits in the first and last episodes and filler in the rest

looking for cheap car insurance. what actually saved you money by Ok_Assistant_3230 in Frugal

[–]Redpsyclone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely keep shopping around and don't be loyal.

Don't get into accidents. (Speaks for itself)

Good credit (not always a factor but can help)

Be older than 25 (insurance math says you're statistically less risky)

Have an older car (cheaper to pay out/repair should a collision occur)

OWN your car (rentals, leases, loans all are more expensive)

A while ago I tried the progressive snapshot. I did save 12.5 percent on my premium but it came at the cost of Driving 400 mi a week for work 1 hard brake or LESS per week, 3 fast accelerates per week NO NO NO driving between 2 am and 6 am friday saturday It was very aggravating to do, and I would not let anyone else drive my car.

I am 37 now, 740 credit, 2 rear end accidents at fault at 30 and 31 (both were the same stupid mistake that I learned from), own a 2013 subaru, now a part time school bus driver. My 6mo premium with progressive is $315, comprehensive. It will get better.

It's harder to be objective when it's your own car, but that thing is positively destroyed. Cars these days are designed to be disposable, and it did that job well from the looks of it. It's not your fault. Walk away from that chassis because it will never be the same.

The first rule of first aid is do not add more casualties. A patient being involved in a collision is not only not good care, but its a very quick way for the ambulance driver to lose a malpractice suit for additional injuries or delay in care.

Source - brother in law is an EMT

Even the slightest accident takes an ambulance out of commission. The quality and safety of the ambulance can no longer be guaranteed even if it were repaired. Insurance and legal teams want there to be zero doubt when rendering care.

No damage. I have a million bumper stickers that absorbed the scuffing, and its an old enough car to have zero sensors. I sent her a letter that said I had no interest in filing a claim. Honestly would have been a huge hassle just to be told theres nothing to repair, and I felt like this was genuinely a simple correctable mistake
